@@brianwright9514 at a cost of over 1m per missile I wouldn't accept that excuse and would challenge the contractor (raytheon?) to figure out a more effective implementation. It seems the technology hasn't improved much in 20yrs
That angle... with the F-15 dropping flares as the missile rips in to destroy the F-16. If Growling Sidewinder ever made a Top Gun style movie he'd know all the camera angles and shots to make to build the tension.
With the crappy F-16 radar and a 10 missile deficit, you're just getting to the merge. That's impressive. Would have liked to have seen Tacview on this one.
@@icin4d The APG-68 does that sometimes (which is in part fault of the RWS), and tbf, the F-15's radar is like twice as big However remember to not corelate Datalink and Radar, as the former can not influence the later: all the datalink does is tell you what the others see by combining a net of comunication and geographical infos to guarantee maximised Situational Awareness, but if the radar has no return waves (or if they get ignored, which may happen for several reasons including weak signal and pulse doppler filters), it will not see the bandit. What he did at the start was simply tell the F-16 he was interested in that aircraft detected by the AWACS, so that the Viper could display it on the HUD and HMD
The F-15EX is essentially supposed to be a missile truck that will support the f-22 and f-35. I believe the idea is the stealth fighters go up ahead since they are stealth and use their radar to lock targets and then use data link too guide missiles fired by the f-15EX . But the Air Nat Guard is also getting f-15EX as a direct replacement for the f-15C. in the Nat guard they will still maintain the crew of one pilot even though there is space for two crew. The airframe is essentially a highly upgraded Strike Eagle.
Okay so yeah it's going to be in direct support for the F-35 and possibly the F-22. People are totally oblivious to the fact that it's also going to be a ferocious bomber once the airspace is clear.
Yeah, it's basically meant to carry and toss a lot of missiles, which will be guided in via datalink information, whether that's given from stealth aircraft or AWACS or whatever.
Ratheon Exec: "What do you mean he fired 8 AMRAAMS at an F16 within 30 miles and they ALL missed"? "Tell the chief engineer not to bring his lunchbox tomorrow"
I just got my bachelor's degree, and now I'm starting the paperwork to become an F-15 pilot! I've been watching your videos to get my own VR setup going.
Are you going Guard? Don’t the let the recruiter fool you into thinking you can go in as an F-15 pilot. You have to graduate at the top of your UPT class to F-15’s - and that’s if one is available in your drop. If you’re going to a guard Unit where they fly F-15’s you still have to graduate in the top half to go to T-38’s from T-6’s.
@@Nanchon21 well, it's two different planes that he has to keep an eye on, it would take extra skill trying to manage them both while the recommit/defend, and if one of them catches you while your defending a missile, it makes things much more difficult
I would've wanted to see a tac-view of that whole engagement. Being able to see where all of the AMRAAMs went and how the f-15 flew would have been cool.
I'm impressed too, especially seeing as he didn't do a very good job. The F-16 in a BVR fight shouldn't really go below Mach 1.2, I consider myself to be getting a bit slow if I'm under 1.4. He was just chilling at 0.6 regularly, and was briefly like 0.45 during that vertical recommit towards the end.
The F15EX is an E with Fly by wire, slightly more powerful engines, better offensive and defensive suites, new cockpit with a huge display. The FBW enables the use of the outboard station on the wings. The EX's will probably be flown more without the CFT's than the E's because they are filling the C's role. A F15E without CFT's is a F15C airframe with a little over 3k lbs but with about 11k more thrust but E's hardly ever fly without CFT's. An EX without CFT's will be more than a match for a C in BVR and WVR.
@Counter Air And just think, if it hadn't have need to be fielded so quickly they could have gone with the GE-132s instead of -129s. Talk about a absolute missile of a jet
Well as we like to say, the age of dogfights is supposedly over, an air superiority fighter just needs to carry a ton of missiles. Especially when those AIM260s come into service The only way to really beat it I think is to play cowardly and try to make him run out of missiles but that's really hard since he can just push you to the edge of the map.
I feel a lot better with the issues I've been having with the F-16 radar from to update to go after seeing GS go through the same issues with getting locks in them dropping since two updates ago
@@sogerc1 The Su-35 wouldn’t detect anything unless the F-35 got within ~20 nm so the Su would just lose 100% of the time which might not be that interesting.
If u remember the History Channel dogfight show episode where the F-22 would lock targets and they had a B-1R missle truck. Basically the airforce ran with that idea but with an eagle platform instead. F-22s stealthily lock targets and the F15 ex launches archer shots from a safe range
Growling you should do an informational video on all the variants of the F-16 like the new block 70 and you could do it with the F-18 and so obviously. And some aren’t even upgrades they’ll be used for different applications.
So structurally.. there's a lot of differences not visible to the eye but. Has the DAS similar to the F35. The TR modules on the radar got increased... and idk if they're Gallium Nitrite or not but. Its got the EPAWSS from BAE systems. And its got an extra hard point under each wing. New Engines with Better nozzles... this is what ik so far
It's a pity that F-15CX wasn't chosen and disappeared after 2019... EX is probably the more rational choice, but I just think a single seater eagle looks cooler
The F15EX is essentially supposed to use datalink to lob off missiles while using its improved cross section to get a little closer to targets than say a regular F15E. Still not invisible but definately harder to see. Since F22s and F35s would be guiding AMRAAMs in to their targets via datalink (while launching their own) it would essentially be able to help those stealth fighters clear the skies much easier. Once skies are clear the F15EX basically becomes a bomb and atg missile truck. Able to carry much more than an F35 or F22 for strike missions.
15:03 My dude, in all seriousness, it’s a win to the F16-C just for getting that close (sidewinder - guns) to a F15-EX. Bravo 👏 Could’ve gone either way at that point.
He was still generous with his missile he should stayed high and use cranks at the beginning of the fight and catch you while you’ll cold and than push you untill your dead that way f-16 dies with a full rack missile
That might be sarcasm but I'll explain anyway: Basically, from what I understand the F-35s fly further ahead with their stealth and have a datalink with the F-15EXs that are some miles back, the F-15s launch their AMRAAMs at max range while the F-35 systems take over terminal guidance to the target. Wonder how the Air Force would tally the kills though, as the F-15EX fired the missile but the f-35 used its radar to guide it in.
That's the beauty of the F-35. Its avionics package and ability to interface with other aircraft at real time, not to mention stealth, is why pilots who fly it love it.
The entire squadron shares its targeting and telemetry data over datalink. If one craft can see a bandit, any of the others in the squadron can see and fire on it as if they saw it, themselves. Get the F-35 in closer due to its stealth to mark the targets, relay the info to the Eagle IIs and then let them fire BVR.
Your channel has been my new obsession over the last month or so. Love your content man! Would love to see you dogfight piloting the F-15EX with it's improved maneuverability !
According to an F15EX pilot that also flew the F15E the EX is superior to the E in air-to-air combat and just below. The c model in terms of air-to-air superiority. One thing I've Noticed in DCS? Is The cockpit still Shows. The E Model not the EX which is full digital Cockpit and has fly by wire controls. I'm guessing the flight model is that of the older E and not the EX meaning. The EX would be superior air-to-air in DCS if modeled correctly, that is just my assumption.
So, from what I understand (and I totally admit I'm an amateur enthusiast, nothing more) the F-15 EX is as you said, an F-15E but with a massive software and hardware upgrade (including new engines). And an F-15E still has much of the air-to-air ability and agility of the F-15A/C. Yes, it's a missile-truck, but it's a missile truck that can still knife-fight with the best of them.
The videos of the f15 ex are very very impressive. The fly by wire systems really make a difference. It looks far more manoeuvrable than previously iterations.
Arriving at the merge felt impossible without some terrain. I would have tried to notch and hug the ground and just maybe he would lose me long enough to approach his 6 w/ radar off
The EX is a very "American" sollution to BVR. No upper limit to cost, just throw as much firepower at the opposition as possible. It's kind of the opposite of the F-35's approach, at even higher cost (imagine that :D).
With the F15's "LOOK DOWN/SHOOT DOWN radar capabilities, unless you can teach a viper to fly subterranean, trying to sneak up on the ground isn't even an option.
Every aircraft since the late 60s has look-down-shoot-down. That's nothing new. Sneaking up would be possible if there were any terrain features to hide behind. No matter how good your radar is, it's not looking through a hill.
Ever think of cross uploading to Rumble? Seeing quite a few game streams pop up. I would assume most of the target audience of rumble would be like here and get some more traction. Just a thought, love this channel
The way they hang more an more weapons on EX makes my mouth water. F16 already was great and the generals loved it .... now maybe F15 can become a generals plane if it ground capability is as strong as F15E.
