He was a star, it was just a shame he had to play alongside the likes of other bright stars like AI, Gilbert, Wade, Allen, Kidd, Nash, Etc who got all the attention because they had a more exciting style of play.. meanwhile Andre miller, baron Davis, and Tony Parker were killin it in the background
I’m glad people are putting Andre Miller on Notice. One of the best underrated point guards of the 2000s. Also in terms of being underrated one of my favorite players along with Rip Hamilton. #GreatVideo
Nuggets (Melo era) here...appreciated Miller’s play very much that’s why I felt a bit stung at the end of this vid when he was assessed as a “glorified etc...”
I really don't think he is an underrated player, almost everybody acknowledges him as a very solid point guard, with great vision and good decision making...but not a spectacular player, which is very fair
He was really underrated. he's a steady floor general with high shooting percentage and low turn-over rate. He def doesn't get enough credits for the contribution he makes to the team.
Can you do how good Caron Butler was , I think he is very underrated especially considering the things he to go through as a kid. Other video ideas are how good was deron Williams or the mid 2000s Jazz teams
I never realized how much he favors Shaun Livingston until I started reading the comments. I never really had a problem telling them apart. Guy was an excellent point guard though. He's currently 11th in all time assists and has more career assists than other more well known point guards like Tim Hardaway and Tony Parker.
Earl the pearl IMO was the archetype for the hybridguard of the modern era. Be smart/crafty if youre going to drive finish strong or pass but be 3 steps ahead mentally and physically. The way he would use his footwork to break his defenders use his off hand/shoulder to create separation with a jab step/step back fade away. I see it from wade to isiah thomas to Ai, rondo, cp3. Sure there were players like walt or west among the great guards of that era. Earl was like a ball of energy that the crowd and his team could feed off of with his pure play. Such a timeless style his jab steps/step back fade aways. A true pioneer. As other guards were shooting jumpers with their feet set. Now when teams scout for a guard that has "IT" they look for a guard like earl. A guy that can create for others or themselves naturally with their ability to get inside and finish on anyone bc of their ability to read and adapt on the fly with a natural talent and feel for the game. Other players can focus on fundamentals shooting form dribbling all they want, unless they see the game the way he did or the way he was able to manipulate defenses, for me thats what made him a GREAT. He made the game look easy. Thats why hes the archetype for me the way he played the game is how everyone wishes they could or the rhythm and flow to his game. High action kill em with that midrange.
@@labanmassey7435 So Stockton is the all time leader in assists and steals by far with only ONE hand, and thats supposed to make me.... less impressed?? Cmon man. Results are results. Gary Payton also said Stockton was the hardest player to guard. That should tell you all you need to know
Miller was a General. One aspect you overlooked was how great of a closer he was. Miller was clutch and would take games over down the stretch. He was also one of the best defender PGs of his era. I was pissed at how good he kept a trash Sixers team after the AI trade and made us miss out on the Durant sweepstakes.
He is so underrated that you’ll never put him into a “most underrated lists of the 00’s”. ‘Coz he was so lowkey and under the radar but when you remember him. You’d be like, “Oh, heck yeah. Steady as a damn rock will give you his averages. Pass, Defend & Score”. Loved him in Philly, Denver & Portland where he went the heck off! Good video, Man!
I remember Miller as a Trailblazer, killing the Iggy led Sixers one night by going into scoring machine mode in the fourth quarter. He hit the game-winner with a baseline-hesitation-change of direction drive and floater, on Iggy, in the final seconds. As a Sixers fan, it was like watching a car accident in slow motion. All you could do is laugh.
Keep up all the great vids!!! Please do all time all star snub list. Or how good was Purvis Short and those unsung great players who never became all stars like Monta Ellis
The late 90s to 2000s was an incredibly competitive era for point guards or lead distributors, as well as transition period. You had all-time greats, like Stockton, Payton, KJ, and the Hardaways still in league. Then, you had the superhuman point guards, like AI, Marbury, Kidd, SF3, White Chocolate, and Kenny Anderson. Then, you had other overlooked point guards who were also becoming stars, like Nash, Billups, B-Davis,Cassell, and Parker. Throw in the fact, alot of teams were running their offense through their best wing scorers, usually their SG or SF. Hill and Pippen were doing it for their respective team, just as Kobe and MJ would also do. T-Mac, Ginobili, LBJ, Odom, D-Wade, and KG were doing the same. Alot of teams needed more so a 3 and D guy or a good shooter who can play adequate defense at of. I haven't even mentioned guys, like CP3, Williams, Rose, and Westbrook who were on the horizon.
Hey thanks a lot for the video Andre was a true Baller and he deserves a lot of respect, i use to watch him when i was younger and i would get very motivated to work on my game seeing him play so well within his skill set. Mr Miller was one of those players that will force you to respect the basic fundamentals .. He made a great 16 yr career with mostly high basketball IQ very impressive..
Remember being upset with his draft pick but he was actually as fun to watch individually as anyone. I watched his game evolve his best days were in Denver for sure but your doing him a disservice on one of the best.
He was also underrated in fantasy basketball. I would routinely pick him up in the 6th/7th round of 12 team leagues due to his lack of a three point shot. Still, his assists, steals, and efficiency were always perfect additions and helped me win a few titles.
Lol The thing about Miller he was not just a skill point guard, he was a tough physical skill point guard and with a very high basketball IQ, he had a great feel for the game too.. He was for sure a very underrated point guard..
If Andre Miller plays in the NBA today, I think he might experience some Playoff success and perhaps be recognizable. If he was on a bigger market team like maybe Boston or Los Angeles (meaning the Lakers) or something, he might develop the other aspect of his game.
probably Andre Miller one of the most underrated point guard and he has durability to play more games. He was one of best midrange shooter and postup point guard. He was a great leader in the court.
One of my all time favorite Trail Blazers. I'll never forget his fake time out plays, PG post game, lob pass alley-oops, or the time he ended his years long streak of never missing a game by body slamming a young Blake Griffin for messing with him and getting subsequently suspended.
Like Mark Jackson, Andre Miller is LIVING PROOF that decent athleticism and being able to play the game from the neck up is HUGE!!! It might not get you into the NBA but it may get you a free ride to college and overseas for anyone interested. "Any time you're getting paid to play basketball things are alright" --Earl Boykins
I always remember as a kid knowing he was one of the better players in the league.l, anytime he’d play against the Celtics i always thought ok he’s one of the better players on the court. He did get some high praise back when he played, but it just never went deep enough for people to really remember. When you watch the NBA there are players that are there, the Stars, and then guys you knew were good just not as popular as some of the others.
Not a lot of "gloried role players" finished 11th all-time in assists for a career. I saw him from his college days through his NBA career. He was never flashy. Just did his job very well. He was a Mark Jackson...#4 all-time in assist... type of point guard, with more offense and more athleticism. Cade Cunningham reminds me a lot of Miller, but, again, with more athleticism. If you rely on clips and Wikipedia for an assessment, you don't do all lot of players justice. Stats are one thing, but, HOW you get those stats...the ability to play the game...is different. Fortunately, I actually watched him play, and he was better than your assessment. The majority of former players who played with Miller give him huge props for both how he played, and how he carried himself as a pro.
I think he deserves a Hall of Fame spot but as a Nuggets fan I can see why he's "underrated". Dre Miller was indeed steady on offense and was probably the last pure point guard in the league who actually has a post game. But there's a reason why he's "durable". He actually DOESN'T give effort on defense by often sagging off his man (even if that man is Stephen Curry) so he rarely suffers from soreness or strain. Think of James Harden with a really low variance offense and less athletic. Miller sometimes takes ill-advised threes which explains his low amount of 20ppg seasons. But he was a really good lob passer it's a shame that he almost never played around players who can really score the rock and cover all his holes on defense. The 2013 Nuggets was the closest one but that team suffered bad luck when Gallinari went down.
Andre I don't want to play hero ball for most of the time,i m underrated, old head strategy which works, imma do my thing no matter what u do,i m Mr Durable Miller
He along with Brandon Roy and the Portland Trail Blazers were a thing everytime i get to match with in NBA 2K10. Their offense was very good, i feel like everyone on the roster could put up 20 points
every stars on his teams should thank him for letting them shine. he leads by example by being humble and letting others over-shadow him. hes better than the other stars in the nba. c",?
when i have a son, Andre is going to be one of the first players i show my kid. want a long career, gets buckets and always healthy.. Miller was that dude
Only knock on Andre was that he wasn't an average to above average 3 pt shooter, Miller was a great defensive, natural type point guard... I like Andre, I loved his toughness but as you say, he was slightly overshadowed by more flashy and more athletic point guards...
