I disagree with Fernando being toxic. How many drivers in the field share all their podium wins and bonuses with his mechanics and engineers? I dont know any. But Fernando does and he still does it.

I would dare claiming that Alonso is still "in his prime": consistent, determined, adaptable, intelligent and fast. Those are still abilities he carries wherever he's driving. For me that makes him easily the best driver of the past 20 years (at least) no matter how many titles Hamilton is gonna win. "Fernando is faster than you." should be a rather universal quote. Alonso Malaysia 2012 the beast prime ever seen. Absolute beast. 2012 was fernando at the best. About his mclaren time He was denied a 1st driver status at mclaren He told McLaren not to cheat by taking ferrari data they still did Crashgate was Flavio getting too hot And Rubens bottas did so much team mate stuff for Michael and lewis but massa did it once it became headline news. A severe bias against Fernando from media has been the cause of his image. Also in no f1 universe prior to this had a move to ferrari or McLaren considered bad.

Alonso have me all of my best moments of watching F1. I remember my grandad watching F1 alot and remember that Micheal Schumacher won what felt like every single race. Then one day he was shouting at the tele so I joined him (I must of been aroung 9 at the time) and a rookie Alonso was leading the race and pretty sure he won. I didnt watch much F1 after that until the 2008 season with Hamilton. Then when he went to Ferrari. I will always remember how gutted I was when he didnt win the title in 2010 and 2012. Those were great seasons. Alonso is pretty much the only reason I got into F1 and I hope he has a good car next season!

@terkmadugga 4 года назад
7:03 I have to disagree. Prost's championship in 1986 was won in a car which wasn't the best, same as Schumacher in 1995. Also, it's a pity that people will only remember 1997 for Jerez, but Schumacher that year did pretty much what Alonso did in 2012, by dragging a poor car within a whisker of the championship.
@LowFatCurrantBun
@LowFatCurrantBun 4 года назад
Awesome!! I was looking for this comment about M. Schumacher 👏. '97 was a great driving performance, but for me, it was Schumacher '96 in his first year with the team that emphasised this ability. ( Disclaimer: I stopped watching F1 after 2007; so I didn't watch Alonso '12 ). ( I _really_ like MS retrospectively, but at the time, I actually cheered Damon Hill, Mika Hakkinen, and Alonso against him in their respective drivers' title battles ). Back to MS '96. MS could drive bad cars quickly. And then there was his rain driving 🙌. In 1996, MS, from being a double world champion with Benetton, left for Ferrari. In the same year, Gerhard Berger and Jean Alesi, from Ferrari, went to Benetton-Renault - the World Champion car that MS vacated. So they more-or-less swapped cars.. somewhat... kind of... in a way... kind of sort of. MS beat them both that year in the team they were previously in. Eddie Irvine, his teammate, did not. Check out this link about what said teammate, Irvine, said about the 1996 Ferrari: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n2Yb_KKMPOk.html MS also won 3 races!! Hill's Williams Renault was dominant that year - it won the first 5 races at the hands of either Hill or Villeneuve, and it took the Constructors' title by a margin of 105 points . . in the 10/6/4/3/2/1 points era!! 😲. Great video, Aidas! 👍. I hope F1 goes well for you and all the other F1 fans amidst the uncertainty of all this crisis. I'm sure you're all desperate to see some action again 🤞🙏.

@@LowFatCurrantBun 100% agree with you. I will add that my 2 fav wet weather drives from Schumacher (and there are many to choose from) both came from 1997, in Monaco and Spa. In Spa, he was at times 14 secs (!!!) faster than anyone else on the same tyres, and in Monaco, it was like everyone forgot to tell him it was raining, again around 11secs faster than anyone else. The perfect remedy for his accident a year earlier.

In my opinion I will talk about drivers from year 2000, Hamilton, alonso, Schumacher, Vettel this is sequence, even if alonso has less victories less world championships I still believe he is 2nd best driver behind Lewis and ahead of Schumacher and Vettel from year 2000 till now...if he has accepted the fact in year 2007 that Lewis is as fast was him that year I think story might have different, you can see him still at McLean atleast till 2009 and by the time he has won 2 more world championship, but it's all because of rob Denis alosno felt entire McLean is against him and he started doing strange things any way he is back next year and am happy to see my favourite driver

titles do not reflect Alonso's brilliancy, he definitely deserved 2007 (screwed by his own team), 2010 (screwed by his own team's strategy) and 2012 (unlucky with both Lotus crashing him out in different races respectively). i've never seen any other driver bring out so much out of their car as Alonso does, this guy brings out the MAXIMUM and way more out of his machinery. most common example is all of 2012 season with Ferrari, but u can also see performances like Spain 2017 where he qualified 7th in a circuit that didnt favour McLaren at all (meanwhile Vandoorne didnt even get past Q1. remember that McLaren was easily the worst car in the grid by far, other than Sauber). and theres so many other examples: Hungary 2014, Hungary 2015, Japan 2008, Singapore 2009, Monaco 2016, Malaysia 2012, Australia 2018, Baku 2018... id never end if i had to mention them all. he's an absolutely incredible driver, and you cant really contradict anyone who believes he's the best driver in F1 history, they have many valid arguments to defend that claim people can say whatever they want about Alonso's personality, but Alonso has definitely proven to have a great sense of humour specially when dealing wih his situation in McLaren the last few years. people should wonder how any other driver like Vettel, Ricciardo or Hamilton would've handled that situation (look at Ricciardo in 2018 in a much better car than anything Alonso drove from 2014 onwards lol). still, even if Alonso showed an unfriendly behavior during those years, who could honestly blame him? we're talking about a 2 times world champion, one of the best drivers ever, stuck in a shitbox where he can barely fight for points when he was promised to be in a short-mid term championship winning project. he had all the right to be upset, but despite that, he didnt really show to be upset other than in his team radios, which happen in moments of stress and heat for the drivers the only downside to Alonso's career were his moves to McLaren. not saying his decision making was bad, infact, it was MUCH better than people claim (signing for Benetton in 2001, which then became a championship winning Renault, joining McLaren in 2007 where he had the best car and joining Ferrari in 2010 where he fought for WDC 2 times, these were all great decisions that people seem to either forget or intentionally ignore), its just a shame McLaren ruined his 2007 season when he had the best car, and that the McLaren Honda project turned out to be a complete failure with depressive results... i feel like McLaren did nothing but damage Alonso's career last, im SO glad he's back for a few more years, and i personally have faith in Renault for 2022. heck, even if Renault doesnt make the step to fight for titles, i hope they atleast make a step forward so that Alonso's return can ressemble Kimi's return with Lotus in 2012, so he can fight for podiums regularly and some wins. that'd be the least a driver like Alonso deserves to wrap up his F1 career, he did not deserve to exit the way he did with McLaren

Winning back to back titles against one of the best during his time, Schumi, was some of the greatest seasons to watch. The 2012-2013 season with Ferrari was definitely the time he got the most respect from other drivers regarding his racecraft and skills. It would have been better for him to take the Racing Point seat over Renault just to get his third title. I guess his ambitions now are bigger than winning a third championship himself.

You say that but Kimi should have won the 2005 title, never mind Schumacher. Kimi is projected to have won the 2005 when driver misfortune is taken into account. Vettel is projected to have won 2010 by an even bigger margin than he already did and Hamilton is projected to have won 2012, misfortune corrected but, as always, Alonso fanboys like you always pretend that other drivers who are relevant during a given season don't exist. I have been a fan of Kimi and Seb. But i always felt that both of them were only able to perform best when they had a car that suits their driving style. Both drivers felt kinda struggling when the cars werent built as per their way of driving. Fernanado on the other hand for me atleast is a lot more versatile driver. It seems like he can easily adapt to different machines and bring out the best in the car even if its a shitbox. Dont get me wrong....seb and kimi are still my most fav top 2 drivers in terms of overall perception. But it must be noted that one of the necessary traits in a great driver is to adapt to the machine that you have and bring out the best in it, which i believe alonso has done more than once.

Hamilton's better. Beat him as rookie. After that, Alonso never faced a competitive driver, with parity of support and equipment, in the high pressure environment of a competitive car, ever again. He's been the single biggest beneficiary of teams building everything only around him, to the the absolute detriment of his teammates carers, since Schumacher wrote the book on that in his first career. When he didn't have that against Hamilton he got completely exposed and ran away from being Hamilton's teammate 1 year in to a 3 year contract, only for Hamilton to become the McLaren world champion, in the car that Alonso ran away from.

@@maxmuller4551 Nope. Alonso, as the reigning 2xWDC, was given preferential treatment from Dennis in the first 5 race weekends but that all changed after the FIA investigated McLaren for taking Hamilton off his pre arranged strategy at the Monaco Grand Prix, in the era when team orders were banned. So, from Canada onwards, Hamilton was given equality, and that's where the problems really started because Alonso could not handle Hamilton beating him in the championship standings at all. Alonso fans are ridiculous. You make me glad that Alonso never won a single title after 2006.

They use a count back system, whereby, if drivers tie on points, then 1st places, 2nd places, 3rd places etc ate taken into account. How many times do Alonso fanboys need this spelling out to them? They tied 109-109 in points, 4-4 for wins, but Hamilton beat his vastly note experienced teammate because he had more 2nd place finishes, when he was just a rookie! Alonso lost. Get over it. Life doesn't work like that and Alonso is a prime example of this. He won 2 titles at Renault then had the amazing opportunity to win 2 more straight away because he joined McLaren at the perfect time when they were good enough to win in 2007 and 2008. Alonso not only failed to win any titles with McLaren but ran away from a 3 year contract, because he was scared of Hamilton, and then had to suffer the humiliation of Hamilton becoming the McLaren world champion instead of him. Alonso also cost himself the chance to drive for Mercedes in the hybrid era because of his failed blackmail attempt and role in the Spygate Scandal. Your comment is basically what someone who believes in fairy tails would write. Alonso only has 2 world titles for a reason. He is not a victim. Alonso had his chances and completely blew it.

"If he was given a good car", this sport doesn't work that way. While being a fast driver, there is a very good reason why he has only two titles and doesn't deserve any more than that. 2007 he got beaten by Lewis, a rookie at that time and he walked away from multi-year contract with championship winning team. Through out his carreer he has been in a team with more than enough resources to build a winning car, but for some weird reason it has always failed... He and his actions are the ones to blame, not the car he was "given".

The reason why Vettel didn't clinch the title sooner. 2012 people judge Ferrari's car based on the first race and testing... Yeah, in those, they were really awful, but after that Ferrari made a huge jump. Domenicali even mentioned in post-season interview that the only problem they had was qualifying, because the car was very reliable (Alonso had 0 mechnical DNFs) and had tremendous race-pace. Even if 2002 was a dominant car, Schumacher won 11 out of 17 races AND was ON THE PODIUM EVERY SINGLE RACE! The achievement done only once in F1. No other driver has ever been on the podium ever since F1 hosts more than 15 tracks per season. You don't realize how crazy that feat is. Even with dominant cars, consistent is really important, and even the 2002 Ferrari which was the most dominant Ferrari ever, is still nowhere near as dominant as Mercedes 2020 and 2014-2015-2016. You are living in a fantasy world as any objective analysis of driver misfortune during the Red Bull years shows that Alonso didn't deserve to win the title any season. Non Alonso fanboys are aware of this, of course, it's just that Alonso fanboys have an unhealthy habit of never acknowledging when other drivers are unlucky. 2010? Alonso actually made the most mistakes of all the title contenders, in a year where they all made mistakes, and Vettel wins the title, by an even bigger margin than he already did, when misfortune is accounted for. Hamilton comes home 2nd with Alonso down in 5th. 2012? This is a year that Hamilton had atrocious luck and should have won the title, ahead of Vettel, with Alonso 3rd. 2012, and McLaren's incompetence, is the reason that Hamilton completely lost faith in the team and made the decision to jump ship to Mercedes, after retiring from the lead of the Singapore GP, but I do love this narrative that everything during that time revolves around Alonso failing to win any championships, in a one man Ferrari team that only supported him. Its hilarious. Last title 2006, 14 years ago.

I think that the "toxic" label is very unfair. Someone who knows Alonso very well is Andrea Stella (who previously worked with Schumacher). Stella was his race engineer at Ferrari and moved with Alonso to Mclaren when Alonso left. Stella has this to say of Fernando: “And while Fernando may look a tough personality, that is more a presentation. It is more when he is part of a competition. When he is inside the group of engineers, he becomes very comfortable. He is the first one to say: How can I improve?” “When he came to Ferrari, he said to me things I could not understand. Like: I am not a good driver in the wet. I am not good in Hockenheim. I am not good (in this and that)… And I was like, What? I thought you were better than this. He was very open.” “The process of being humble, of acknowledging the gap to perfection, is a strong characteristic of his, which I can understand from outside may not be perceivable. But within the entourage, the team, it is actually quite developed. Through the years, he has worked on these weaker characteristics.” “The essence of his qualities is that he is very complete. You struggle to find a weak point, basically, in terms of high-level skills. The technical preparation in terms of driving. The ability to cope with a variety of situations. Intelligence - just capacity to understand the situation while he is in or out of the car.”
