Spot on, it was a real waste of attacking prowess. I always felt the truth was Rodgers did'nt really manage that team correctly it would turn up week in/out, score/ship goals with NO game management, shambolic. Never mind the 3-3 at Palace and the Chelsea slip the sad fact that we'd scored 100 goals and STILL needed shed loads to catch City's goal difference! Really! with 100 goals the difference should be out of sight. Also Mignolet's form started to crumble as the season went on probably as a result of a scatty defence with no protection. Basically Rodgers had very little to do with this squads form.
@@joebryant5722 skrtel was not great and played alot got his head on a few corners now and then but inreally think he bluffed his way through that team somehow
As a chelsea fan watching pl from 1998/99 i think they were the best striker duo of all time. And that Suarez season is the single handly the best season by any striker. I didnt like him much but cant deny how good he was. That defence was very bad tho, flanagan, skrtl, johnson all were very poor. Got carried by the guys on top.
This will never not hurt. My favourite Liverpool season ever, even after all the klopp years, that Suarez team made me feel something never felt before or since. Special team, special player Suarez, amazing memories, can remember those games as if it happened yesterday, even though it’s been 10 years.
I think a lot has to do with the title challenge being totally unexpected. We never expected to challenge, yet there we were ......3 games away from being Champions. It hurt a lot.
It really hurt, but not on the level of Arsenal 89. It made me appreciate our 2020 title all the more. Mind you I wish we had saved some of those points we got for 21-22, which also hurt more because we were so so close.

@@jmax3391 Yeah. Suarez was banned 5 match, score 31 goals no penalty, and and and and you're the one didn't know Suarez have more than 17 assist that season. 31 goals and 17 assist. And his dribling was superior compare to Harry Kane dude. WTF are you talking about. Gerrard score 11 penalty that season. Imagine Suarez take penalty instead. As Man United fan, I remember that season I just hate him, I hate him the most, because that Liverpool biting brat was so unbelievable.
Suarez is less technical than both. It is placed in front of them out of irrational fanaticism and nostalgia. He had an exceptional season in 2013/14, but even in 2012/13 Lewandowiski was superior.
I know we won a lot of trophies under kloop but this team is my favorite attacking team of Liverpool. Every match were so entertaining and this team still holds the most goals in a season for Liverpool.
A strong Defence wins you league titles not a strong attack. Klopp realised this straight away hence getting rid of Coutinho and investing heavily on the Defence.
@@laurelquinn_ You're correct but my point is he exchanged attack for defence. The money was not used to buy another Coutinho instead was used heavily on the defence.
It's the plethora of attack and the different ability and style. Even able to bring on a Victor Moses. There was usually somebody in the locker we could unleash that would change the game.
@@tqack all you see is a few highlights on TV of him making a few good saves, I've had a season ticket for the last 25 years and went to every game and believe me he cost us a lot of points and our defence that season was shocking. You don't win titles conceding 50+ goals
Suarez... ppl forget how awesome he was, particularly in this season. Just about every goal he scored, he turns and points at the passer. Respect! Plus on Flanagan's first goal for Liverpool (and his only goal in his pro career!), Suarez seemed happier than the kid did! What a team player he was.
People would like to blame it on that fall, they were leading the table with 3 points even after losing to Chelsea. But the game at Palace was the one, from leading 3-0 to drawing the game? Painful.
@@NayeSamiyeIt’s definitely the Chelsea game that cost them the title. Their goal difference were far behind Man City. The palace game was just the nail of the coffin
this suarez season was the best individual season in the history of the league. missing 5 games, 31 goals without single penalty, 17 assists. unbelievable. and this home match against arsenal, first 20 minutes was for me the best game ive ever seen. it should be 8:0, liverpool missed another 4 clear chances. and this suarez half volley is for me the best goal which never happened. amazing season with broken heart ending. gerrard slip- from all these players- was the only time ive ever cried because of football
That volley against Arsenal was freakin' insane. I still occasionally watch videos of it and marvel at the skill and athleticism he displayed. The corner is *terrible*. If Suarez hadn't backpedaled, it probably would've been 5m behind him. The speed with which he controls the ball, shapes his body, and drills the volley all while moving backwards is ridiculous.
Quite simply, we should have wrapped up the league with our last 3 matches. All we needed was a draw at Anfield versus Chelsea, a win at Palace and getting over the line versus Newcastle on the final day. Jose was our nemesis. But this was one of the best seasons and the best teams even Jurgen Klopp would be proud of. Lot of love for Mignolet. Top Man.
And ours to be fair...City and Liverpool scored 203 goals in the league and Chelsea kept a clean sheet at both. Just needed a striker and once they added Diego Costa the next season took care of itself.
I must admit he ended up having his on pitch ability overshadowed by other nonsense. This season Suarez was as good as I have seen in the Premier League. Not just 31 goals but several goal of the season contenders and many bits of sublime skill. Barely an ordinary goal amongst the 31! 👏👏👏
As a Liverpool Fan, I have never seen a player have a season like Luis Suarez did in this year… everytime he got the ball you knew something was going to happen, there wasn’t a goal he couldn’t score. The man basically single handedly took Liverpool to the brink of the title, unlucky to miss out an just unfortunate circumstances for Stevie G… the PL probably won’t see a player like Suarez again. Best ST of this generation imo, the man could do it all
@@veratikon7882 not really. firstly, this suarez season was better than every torres by mile. but more importantly, torres had instant impact, suarez was firing in his third season, not immediately after arrival. he was so wasteful first seasons
@@omarhassan1222Before that Nunez need to train to finish an easy chance first. You can't relying on beautiful goals only, it's not happen everytime bruh..
@@omarhassan1222 let’s not be silly now… 😏🥴 Tbh I don’t even think his best position is through the middle, he’s much better as a winger if ye ask me. He’s a good ball carrier and got the pace to put a fullback on the back foot. If you look at most of highlights for us, or even benfica, majority of them are him cutting in from the wing 🤷♂️
Still hurts to this day that we didn’t win the league this season. That Sterling offside, the away game at Chelsea where Eto didn’t get a red, then scored fucked us that season.
Nah. We fucked us. We were naive. Defending, defending, defending. You just cannot win titles on a dizzying attack that obliterates teams in the first 30 minutes and then leaks goals for the next 60. Brendan relied on the attack and had no idea how to safeguard the back line. Must have been exhausting for the players to be honest, never pulling back and managing the game.
Yep Rodgers inability to adjust away from home 'fucked us'. Look at the dropped points in Dec/Jan, that's where titles are often won. We did a great push in the final third, but overachieved because of the front line brilliance which Rodgers deserves some credit for. He's not a Moyes, Fat Sam or Hodgson, but maybe closer to a Howe (a bit better) in terms of managerial ability. We had no Europe that season.@@Uhhmelmuhay
In fairness, Mignolet saved us a lot of times that season. If anything was needed it was better fullbacks, as a lot of wingers absolutely rinsed the likes of Cissokho, Flanagan, and Johnson and were able to feed the strikers with uncontested crosses. I will say that I cried basically the whole day when we lost that Chelsea game, I just knew that was the killer blow as we all did, but having had 10 years since then, I look back on this time with a more positive feeling overall, a sneak peek that better times were headed our way
This season deserved a proper video like this. Interesting to see such a crucial goal incorrectly ruled out for offside in such an obvious error. That, and the Chelsea game. Fine margins.
SSS trio was unstoppable. That season was a massive run. EPL referees have been doing a lot of poor officiating against us. Our attack was awesome that time. But we have Rodgers who is a first time managing a big club. The game against Chelsea we just needed a draw but he was playing all attack and not playing with caution. We also have an average keeper then Mignolet and our defense was not too solid. Overall, it was a massive season. Prime Suarez actually did 31 goals matching up with CR7 without no plenty.
Our poor defending cause us from winning that league, imagine how many saves Mignolet make that season, still we conceded some unnecessary goals. It hurts me that we lost that league with that kind of Attacking tro SSS! But at last We Won it! Still Liverpool All The Way ❤❤❤
Suarez and Sturridge were so threatening and a joy to watch them. We lost the league that season because we had a fragile defence and lost important games against our direct rivals. Suarez is so underrated for his generation. In my opinion, he is just behind Messi and C.Ronaldo.
coutino's winner against city was one of the greatest ever feelings ive experienced as a liverpool fan...luckily the club has given me many more moments like it but...wow we had no right mixing it with city and chelsea, we were bargain basement compared to their spending, crazy to think they were also cheating every ffp rule going unbeknownst to all at the time, the two richest clubs were cheating the system and we still nearly won it all...amazing season
This team was so good upfront but quite horrible defensively. I wonder why Brendan couldn’t fix the obvious defensive frailties in the January transfer window. Gerard, Suarez and Sturridge deserved to win this EPL title.
The back five were midtable at best and also Rodgers inability to adjust away from home at the big grounds. He's a second tier coach without European nous.
Sturridge & Squarez was one the Greatest Combo the premier league has ever seen with Sterling & Steven Gerrard coming in from all angles what a Strike Force 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Ye the defence wasnt the best. But brendan rodgers daft tactics cost us the match at anfield vs chelsea. He cost us the league being so naive with gung ho football against park the bus counter attack Jose. He got schooled big time
@@Cosmic-Wanderer no, it was not rodgers fault. we should be honest and admit mourinho did great job tactically. he came to sit deep and play counterattacks. his line up was prepared for it, schurrle, demba...also, liverpool were famous with strong start of the games. mourinho literally destroyed all momentum and torn apart game. yes, it wasnt nice but from tacitally perspective, he destroyed all liverpool weapons. only hope was some screamer from gerrard, nothing else. I think we wouldnt win that game even if it would be played for 180 minutes
@@milanpodmanik5386 the whole world knew how Jose was gonna come and play. Sit back park the bus try and sting us on the break waste time roll around do the dark arts etc. The only person who didnt seem to know was rodgers and i’ll never forgive him for it. Absolute vain man who thought he could play the same way and get away with it. Cost us the league, basically cost him his job as he only lasted 2-3 months into next season. And it cost him his career. Been on the downward slope since. Ended up in scotland thats how bad its got for him
I always said before i die and I have been supporting Liverpool from 1992 i want to see Liverpool win the league and the Champions League, the league tho i never thought i would see that, i have and im really happy
I remember this exciting season strongly. SAS was fantastic and best striker duo of premier league history I guess. I really hoped this Liverpool crowned PL title cause Gerrard deserve it and last chance of his career but title slipped away by himself, It was so sad.
One of the most enjoyable seasons ever. Hurts they couldn't get over the line. Henderson red card was costly but I can't believe how City get some decisions in their favor. That offside wasn't close at all.
As a LFC fan, every time when I reviewed this season I feel sad. I think the biggest mistake in this season was the tactics in the game against Chelsea. I remember in that game, we still headed Man City by 3 marks. To be realistic, we could strive for a draw result. Considering Mourinho's team used to be good in defense and counter-attack, it would be very dangerous for us to adopt full attack mode against Chelsea. But I did not know whether our coach and the players were being triggered by Mourinho's pre-match speech, we were so aggressive and strived for 3 marks in that match. And then the worst result come behind this mistake... Many fans blamed our captain's fall but the wrong tactic was part of the reasons made G8 stressful in that match.
This was still such an exciting team in Brendan Rodgers' second full season and just losing out on the League Championship to Man City. Yes, defence cost us but Rodgers brought in Dejan Lovren from Southampton at end of season and added Adam Lallana. You can always mix and match teams up but the midfield of Henderson, Gerrard, Coutinho, Allen, Leiva and Moses was very good, as was Sterling up front along with Sturridge and Suarez. Some of the football was outstanding, especially embarrassing Arsenal 5-1 at home, and defending champions Man United 3-0 at Old Trafford.
People forget that Suarez was suspended for first 5 games because he was serving a 10 match ban for biting a Chelsea player the previous season, yet he still was that season’s top goal scorer with 31 goals 😂
Forward we were best team in the world, but every ball crossed into our box was a goal threath. They'd kick it into each other, miss it, kick it weakly, every cross in our box that season gave me heart attack.
Suarez was terrifying. Banned 5 match, but still, score 31 goals no penalty, and and and and Suarez have more than 17 assist that season. 17 assist. He is the whole package: dribling, passing, speed, space awareness, shot. He was good at everything Gerrard score 11 penalty that season. Imagine Suarez take penalty instead. As Man United fan, I remember that season I just hate him, I hate him the worst, I hate his laugh, I hate his face, I hate his celebration, always said he is a 1 season player, because that Liverpool biting brat was so unbelievable I can't accept it.
We were a runaway train that season ... No control or thought, just relentless attacking - the like of which has rarely been seen before or since. It has to be said, the defence was AWFUL ... the amount of games we conceded 2-3 goals was insane, but luckily the SAS were scoring 3-4 at the other end. Without that incredible forward line we would have been thumped multiple times, by some pretty poor sides. Looking back, the Christmas defeats to City and Chelsea one after the other did the damage. Win just one, we would have been clear and champs come the end.
From what i see everyone already forgot Liverpool with Torres and Mascherano in 2008/09 only lost 2 matches in the Prem and got 86 points. Here it was 84 points and 6 lost matches
