It's a fair bit more complicated than you made it out to be, that's fine, but for the sake of simplicity, you did say some things that are flat out not true. "Companies already have your passwords" No. No they do not. They have the encrypted version of that password. Decrypting it would take an extremely long time. That's how these algorithms are designed. Companies do not know the passwords of their users because if their servers get hacked, every user on the system has their password revealed to the hacker, and then that's on the company. This is why when you forget your password, there is never an option to simply have them send you your old password, instead, if you want to get into your account, your password gets reset or you reset it. Some sites, however, do keep the encrypted version of the server as part of their records and that's how they know if you're trying to reuse a previous password. Rainbow tables aren't as universal as you make them out to be, nor are the hashes you show in the first minute and a half of your video. Encryption standards vary. There isn't just one way to encrypt or hash a password. Different websites and places use different encryptions. If a rainbow table is to work, it has to be for the same encryption as the website with the password you're trying to steal. You can't just shove a keylogger into a word document. If you run a file under a program, it is limited by what the program can do. Word does not have permission to monitor keystrokes when it is not in the forefront. If you run an executable (.exe), then yes, those things have the ability to do just about anything potentially, which is why a lot of email programs and websites (if you use webmail) block them. Yes, having long password helps. In case you're wondering, the point where a rainbow table becomes overloaded by the sheer amount of combinations it has to try to crack a password is somewhere around 16 characters or so. However, putting in numbers and letters and capital letters and even special symbols (.?/:;@'~#{[}]¬!"£$%^&*()_+-=) makes it much harder to crack because, there are way more combinations that the rainbow table or brute force attack has to try. If you know a password is only lower case letters, then it takes 26^x (where x is the number of characters the password actually has) attempts to get it right. By including capital letters, that amount goes to 52^x. Including numbers as well, you're looking at 62^x. If you throw in special characters on top of that, that's 95^x. So, to review, it's the number of possible characters to the power of characters a password has. There's 10 digits, 26 lower case letters, 26 upper case letters and 33 special characters. If you want to see this kind of thing in action there's a website that lets you try out how secure your password is that tells you how long it would take to crack it with a brute force attack. I think it's called how secure is my password. Google it if you're interested.
Thanks for the in-depth comment! Super interesting. I will absolutely google the brute force attack thing... so cool. I think you're being a bit pedantic by saying it is "flat out not true" to say Facebook has a hashed version of my password on their server, because they do. The implication is not that they have your unencrypted password, no one I showed this to in advanced assumed that. They all assumed, that though it's hashed, it's still your password. Thus, "Companies already have your *secured* passwords" may have been better, but that's neither here nor there. For piece of mind, I did run this by several people who do this for a living, and they thought it was fine.
I think 14 characters (lower case letters only) would be sufficient. It would take over 5 years to hack it if the hacker could try 350 Billion combos every second (26^14/350.000.000.000/60/60/24/365 = 5,844). But only 82 days with 13 characters (26^13/350.000.000.000/60/60/24 = 82,0487).
Finally!!! My school marks were increased to enable me have good grades. Thanks to this legendary hacker for his works. I'll say to you friends contact them your work jobs. Motivehacker01@gmail.com

yurtpoh I remember a network admin, the manager, who had to be administrator password as 'why am I here?' Lol. You could guess the quality of his work.
I reinforced my passwords back in 2016. I added a 12-character random-looking string to each password. Over time, I created several of these strings, all of which look random, but are easy for me to remember.

Simple, just make users not have bad passwords by adding requirements to it like. Your password must have a capital letter, a number and a symbol. also salting your hashes in clever ways helps.
Except the 29th most common password is trustno1 (and any variation of capitalization thereof) while tons of corporate passwords include the month and year the password was set.
Here's a tip just add something to your password depending on which site you use. There unique password for all websites and easy to remember just use the websites name.
Just adding the full site name isn't secure enough. What I do is shorten it as well. Let's say if my master pass was "banana", then for youtube I'd change it to "ybananayt". You could go even a step further and add some symbols to the mix and form "y+banana+yt". Now add one more number and let's capitalize the last letter and you have a super secure password of "y+9+banana+yT".
nah. here's a tip to use different passwords for different websites, using facebook login or ggogle + login as much as possible or just having a password manager.

That's not how it works. A hacker doesn't choose you specifically, they have programs that targets anyone they can and if your account is vulnerable because you chose a weak password you'll get hacked eventually and you'll face the various consequences even if it's just your time (and not financial) trying to get your account back.

Nah, I bet the DNews channel password is closer to something like "we'rebetterthanSourceFed123eatMyassPhillyD". It even has numbers, lowercase letters, uppercase letters, and a special character!

Then it would be cracked instantly. There are only 10 numbers, but there are 26 lowercase letters and 26 uppercase letters and combined that makes 52 letters, versus 10 numbers per character. Therefore, 111100010 would be far easier to crack than nrfdQ, especially if the attacker knows its binary, that means each character can only be a 2 possibilities, which means: 0, 1, 00, 01, 10, 11, 000, and as you can see, with only 6 possible passwords, if the password was only 2 characters long, while alpa upper/lower at 2 characters long would be 104 possible.and if you add numbers, then 124 possible 2 character alpha-numeric passwords, versus 6 binary 2 digit.
howsecureismypassword.net/ Try a binary password there, see it will always say "instantly cracked". 11 binary characters long = 3 SECONDS to crack. 11 lowercase long = 24 hours 11 Upper AND lowercase long = 6 years 11 upper AND lower AND numbers = 41 years. Even if these estimates are inaccurate, the way they scale up, gives you a good idea how important containing multiple sets of character types is.
BIONIC ORES I know, but considering the three paswords I use contain lower and upper case letters, numbers and other symbols and are long 20-30 symbols depending on which password and do NOT use real words, I think it's real safe to assume that the only way an account of mine can be stollen is through an exploit.
IIIRattleHeadIII brute force will still get ya man there is no stopping it also even if your password is nsjzuxiais863vbjfs74 it still will be cracked brute force works by guessing all the possible combinations like ahhxuisishx75agzy7 and it's a matter of time before it comes to your password
+DNews well some sites only let you have a certain amount of characters such as: 8-15 letters, numbers and symbols. So how would a "sentence type" of password even work?
Just use a password generator (and be sure to let it use all possible characters) and something that stores that shit with a master-password be sure to let that fill in your passwords for you so neither your keys nor clipboard can be a weak link in your security.

☝ITs very interesting ! the best company carrying out cyber services like this recovery and we make client satisfaction a priority , you hardly find that in todays businesses..
Dizziness is usually caused by visual input not agreeing with what the semicircular canals in the inner ear detect. This can happen if you are spinning but your field of view is stationary relative to you, or if your blood pressure drops, causing all kinds of sensory misinterpretations, or if you have some sort of drug in your system that slows your brain's ability to integrate sensory input
Sho Bud that's because your inner ear (different from your regular ear) sits in a sort of liquid in your head and when that's physically disturbed you get dizzy.
I'm always surprised when a site limits the number of characters in your password. It also surprises me when the companies won't allow special characters spaces and foreign letters. It seems like an easy fix with almost no downside
Use completely random characters passwords and change you passwords at least twice a year. Use services that lock your account after 3 password failures. If you must use free Wi-Fi get a VPN service.
D Jaquith password change policies are dumb - I set (and over time) remember 20 chars of randomness (like for FDE) and you ask me to change it, I'm going to start using passwords I know are bad.
shawn wilson My passwords are more like _=;"^ghHk67=€€÷HEvh_=_, it's nothing I remember or write down and in particular I'm more careful with my financials. Another thing is never use WEP or WPA, instead hide your SSID and use WPA2-PSK (AES) or the latest or most advanced encryption option available.
D Jaquith FWIW not broadcasting the SSID (or limiting mac) doesn't provide much security (it's security through obscurity - which is something, just not much)
Phishing emails is another effective way to get someones password. Create fake emails that look legitimate that request a password change because the account has been compromised. When u click on "change my password" it takes you to a site that looks legitimate as well. You "reset" your password and bam, they now have your information. Although you'd have to be a fool to fall for something like this. Its still tricky, some emails look very legitimate.
I send to hell all junk email even those that states that there is a hot milf 2 miles away desperately to get fucked and no CC is required to register..

When I was a kid I used to hack the newspaper racks all I had to do was hit it on top in the center and it popped open and sell newspapers so they caught on to it because the word got out, and they fix the issue. So the next thing I did was I used to get a piece of wire and stick it up the coin box and pull out quarters. But then they caught on to it and fix it so I won't stick a wire up. And then I used to get free apples at school I file my coin Penney's to the size of a dime and got free apples but then they caught on to that too and adjusted the coin size... I'm a computer tech specialist and messing with hacking it's a federal charge my records clean and I intend to keep it clean...
Batool why would u want to hack ;-; I hate it when ppl hack bc my friend spent a lot of money on his account and was hacked and his pas was changed....
I don't understand why u say using words and numbers r less important?? When ever I create a password they recommend I use a mixture of numbers and letters? So ur saying numbers and lettered passwords r easier to crack ? Then a long word ? Because ever site recommend using a mixture of both ?
One thing you forgot to mention is that hacking software most of the time check if you replaced characters with other characters like Password Passw0rd Pa55word Pa55w0rd Pa$$word Pa$$w0rd Pas$word
Cai you just said what a rainbow table does as they do not only make tables of hashes but also tables of actual passwords that in some if not most programs you can narrow it down if you know the company of who made the product you are trying to hack into
yep its called whiled card this also helps wene you see some one type a password you might see that 3 is a number 8 is a uppercase and total of 12 this is how students can crack passwords. you might see some one type on the beamer and you see wene he/see preses shift (Old teachers) you know how thay type very showy?... you can even look at hand position. left side of keyboard, right side, numpad? that is what makes a 12 digit's password hack-able. Allwace go for 12 digit's at LEAST 16 is a good amount. Some Like this: ?-+VbtVh!:YgC=k= 16 Caracter, 95 Bit password. but mix it up, if all your passwords are 16 that's a weak spot to.

u can take two random words that have no significance whatsoever (like for instance pebble & freckle) stick them together (pebblefreckle) then reverse it, so then you have a complicated password (elkcerfelbbep). so now ur password looks super complicated but its not, to remember it u just have to write the words pebblefreckle in reverse.
a long password isnt necessarily better, since hashed passwords arent unique its possible that a 256 character password and "12345" share the same hash, an attack will have it cracked within fractions of a second
it's possible but very very VERY unlikely with modern hash algorithms, especially because they also use stuff like time stamps from the moment the password was created

You match hashes, password123 hashed looks like 8ejbc1e28ej19s (just a representation), and if that's checked against and matches what's in the database then that means that the original password was password123.
Mila Marshall encryption is not random. If you encrypt the same text with the same secret and operation you get the same result. No different than hashing. The difference is that you want to be able to decrypt something without knowing the original text. With hashed passwords you only want to make sure that the provided password/text results in the stored hash. Hashing results in a loss of information, is not reversible and AFAIK no hash algorithm can guarantee a unique hash result. Meaning 2 different passwords may result, even if it would be incredibly rare, in the same hash.
