Hardness testers are expensive devices. A hobby instrument maker quickly has to fall back on files to get an impression of the hardness of his materials. But is it really not possible to build an affordable, reliable, precise test machine yourself that covers the entire Rockwell and Vickers hardness range?
I think it can be done.

That is a really nice design. Thanks for taking the time to document it and share. You might get clearer results if you illuminate the test samples with monochromatic light.

To reduce chromatic aberration I suppose? I have tried this with a green laser, but that light is way too bright. Have to experiment some more though.

Hallo Michel, zag al meerdere RU-vid filmpjes van je met oa een Proxxon pd400. Die heb ik ook maar mis eigenlijk een elektronische regelbare spindelsnelheid. Is dat iets waar jij al eens mee bezig bent geweest? Hoor graag van je. Gr. Henk

Dag Henk, Nee, nog niet. Maar als ik die weg op zou gaan, gaat de huidige motor er uit (want ook met de beste regelaar een te gering koppel bij lage toeren), en komt er een bijvoorbeeld 750 Watt borstelloze motor met bijbehorende driver voor in de plaats. Dan heb je ongeveer hetzelfde als bij de FF500/BL frees, maar met twee keer zoveel power. Ik zou dan eens gaan kijken naar de 80ST-M02430. @@Michel-Uphoff Hi Michel, dank voor je bericht. Ik snap de basisgedachte maar die elektronica gaat mij als simpele werktuigbouwer boven de pet. Enig idee wie zoiets voor mij zou kunne uitvoeren?
