People say that Dynos are about brute strength, but what this man does from the 7:00 - 9:00 timecodes is just an unimaginable amount of pure, raw, strength. And it couldn't possibly be further from Dynamic climbing if he tried. Honestly, i'd love to see Magnus have a go at climbing like this.

you just gotta stop moving soon for it to be qualified as static smh

This is my favorite drill to do while warming up! Really makes you think hard about body position.
@derekxiaoEvanescentBliss
@derekxiaoEvanescentBliss 2 года назад
I think static should instead be defined by the initial momentum when you release a handhold. I.e. You can release a handhold statically, and grab the next hold while you are falling out. Not "you have to pause before the next hold". I think completely static movement where you can pause at any point in time constrains more than just louis' dynamic magic. edit: not that this lockoff-esque drill isn't good, I'm just saying it overshoots the intended purpose of removing dynamic climbing.
@chickenmacnuggets100
@chickenmacnuggets100 2 года назад
Its a good thing to train towards, the pausing, but i agree that anything that does not require juumping is static.

@TheTMschannel
@TheTMschannel 2 года назад
I actually do this as training. It is awesome for lock off strenght, endurance and body awareness, and it trains it all in a really fun way, that often forces you to be creative with betas. I add two other rules as well. #1 no cutting feet #2 everything has to been done in slowmo including footwork. Meaning I can't pull hard up to a hold, lock off, and hover my hand for a second before I grab. It forces you to stabilise throughout the entire movement

Great demonstration of the basics of problem solving: what will push/pull/ keep me in balance moving towards the next holds; what will push/ pull/ keep me in balance from going past the body positions I need to utilize those next holds; and set me up for the next sequence. And often the straight line of a Dyno does a lot to reduce the complex body geometry of multiple triangles and squares. Momentum often cuts the Gordian Knot of complexity. But you have to swing a sharp and accurate line.

It's cool to see how momentum gives both extra power and adds to performance as well as reduces fatigue (higher power => shorter time of strain). I think Louis is also the perfect example for this, since his climbing is so beautifully dynamic.
