@@Anonymous18817 I’m not a Delta Operator, never been to OTC. However, I have been to Ranger School, another physically demanding course in the US Army, albeit surely not as hard as OTC. You would be fighting an extreme uphill battle from a physical standpoint. I’m not saying it’s impossible but I have seen extremely fit women fail physical events that mediocre guys make it through easily. I have a friend that’s a female infantry officer that’s extremely physically fit, like top .01% of female physical fitness level fit. I, as a fit but nothing to write home about guy, was able to easily subdue her in a (friendly) fight. Like it wasn’t even fair even though appearance wise we have about the same muscle mass, in fact her legs are bigger than mine. The problem is just that men are essentially on PEDs when compared to women. The genetically supplied cocktail of hormones a man has are performance enhancing drugs that will make our bodies far more capable. From my experience I would say you would need to be either a genetically gifted woman in that aspect or take PEDs. Maybe it’s possible to just train hard enough maybe it’s not, but that’s the reality. Mostly I’ve seen women fail runs and upper body strength focused events. So if you are really dedicated to the idea I would become a cardio beast, make sure your legs are as strong as possible and you’re upper body is ridiculous as far as female physique goes. Unfortunately you will have to train much harder than the men do, you won’t recover as fast, and you won’t see the same level of physical gains without taking PEDs. The worst that can happen though is you fail, and ultimately even if you do, it’s a crazy laudable goal that very very very few women even attempt.

I mentioned it in another comment before I saw yours, but what always blew me away was that mindset isn't just exclusive to the shooters. To elevate from Basic, to Airbone, to Ranger, to Green Beret to Delta is an unbelievable amount of mental and physical punishment for a human being to take. Then to be deployed into theater and have to function at very high levels of skill and stress is amazing! 🔥🔥🔥🔥

I was army infantry in the '90s, and we did basic and AIT back-to-back (OSUT - 15 weeks) and THAT was hard, but nothing compared to specialized units. We got the very best training in the world, and I was never the same after that so I can imagine what these guys were taught. Every British special forces member I ever met (civilian contractor for the British Army a few decades ago) displayed the same kind of calm and collectedness I hadn't expected before doing that work. I wrongly assumed they'd be back-slapping jocks full of piss and vinegar but they were all grey men. All of them. They'd be the last person you look at in a bar or a queue at the bank. This is spot on. There's a reason Charlie Beckwith modeled CAG after the SAS, and that connective tissue is still very apparent today. Every once in a while you'll find guys/gals like you mentioned in these units (full of piss and vinegar), but the reason most of them get selected is due to their maturity and calm in the face of uncertainty. Tom Satterly spoke similarly about basically having a daily renewable contract post selection and OTC. He spoke about that inherent fear of not knowing if you would show up to work only to be told that you’re done. It must be such a nerve wracking environment to exist in on a daily basis. But the mentality that these types of environments seem to create must be a huge factor in what makes these teams, and these operators so special.
@GMan56M
@GMan56M 11 месяцев назад
Nerve wracking, yes, but also think about the continuous high level of performance that kind of environment creates too! Kyle mentioned it here in this clip, but CAG is the type of environment where you struggle just to be mediocre! It's hard to fathom the level of talent and skill all of those folks have; not just the shooters, but the enablers and support folks too. Every single person has to be on their game 100% of the time. It's wild.

Beckwith told a story in his book where, if I recall correctly, George Bush Sr. (not yet president) insisted in seeing how all that DC money was being spent on Delta. He was invited into the kill house to sit as a hostage while the team did a live fire exercise. The team went in and neutralized the room in seconds. Bush was all shaken up and looked at the mock-up terrorist targets and said "You missed!" The Delta commander said "Look closer". It turned out the operatives had shot the targets IN THE EYES.

The coolest thing that I learned from Shawn's past shows is the fact that Delta recruit from every branch and the majority of guys aren't all shooters originally. I love how 'The Unit' will take and try out guys with Vehicle Mechanic/Motor Pool backgrounds, Water guys, Jumpers....literally anything that be an eventual value add to the eventual task unit that person belongs to if successful, then once THERE, they teach them to shoot etc, the exact way that the Unit wants it done.

I think they are taking guys from other special operations groups. PJ, SF, Ranger, SEAL etc. They aren’t taking some dude from the motor pool or a cook or something. I think at times that this country is running out of people like him capable of becoming a Delta operative. These guys are more than a cut above what we have available to fill their boots

I often think this myself. But there are pockets of this country where young men are more than capable. I’m 52, am a head of drilling for an oil and gas company out in west Texas. I’m around young men who are just built different. Most are heading off to service and making some money to save away before heading off to boot camp. They are tough as nails, polite and have an old soul when it comes to values. I’m sure there are other pockets of the country that are the same but no question, those types of young men are harder to find.

I understood this back in 1991/92. I wasn't ready for SFAS Experience. Getting almost killed by a car 2 months prior to attending SFAS didnt help. GF leaving me, SOB timing was off.Then deployments with Infantry threw a monkey wrench!! SSG Johnson got me started back in 1991at Ft.Bliss. He was stationed at Ft. Bragg tried for SF and Delta. So I knew about it but the Experience is something else! Theres was no bragging about this intense hard training.The mule! Fast forward 32 years, burning wood, shooting 10mm and 300 in the woods of Texas. 11B Infantry, Ranger, SF and Delta are Bad Ass Soldiers. A drink to Men that go Above and Beyond the Call Duty!

What I heard, in no particular order: "Highest performance asked to do the most impossible jobs; the testing is every day". But also, you're not out unless you quit or if everyone votes you out? And did I hear right that the graduates can be as little as 1 and as much as 12 people? But, even crazier, near the end of the clip, I know I heard it right: That 'the governement' gets lazy and takes a super specialized military unit (hostage rescue) and then turns them into a fix everything button! Crazy world!

thats pretty much what operator units, especially delta and team 6, became at the tail end of the war on terror. We were tired of trying to fight any sort of conventional war and had no need to use any type of infantry like unit. Along with airstrikes from fighters/drones, these operators were just sent in as assassins to try and cut the head off the snake by taking out all the leadership within these terror groups. It proved to be very effective, but no doubt took a huge toll on the guys in these units both physically and mentally...

Watching him makes it seem that it’s more mentally stressing being and staying on the team than actually being out and operating! 🤯

I went to Selection back in the early to mid late 2000's. Its not as hard as you think. I didn't stay the whole time because I voluntarily left the depot after I was told to voluntarily leave the depot or I would be arrested for trespassing on government property. Regardless, after I dropped off the candidates from my bus and I was driving off of the depot (voluntarily), I saw guys on the field doing jumping jacks and stuff and it didn't look to difficult. I would take what this "operator" says with a grain of salt.

Hi, I’m a 22 year old woman and I’m from Arizona. What advice would you give to a woman that wants to be a Delta Force assaulter? How does the Delta community feel about women joining them? If you had to go to Delta Force selection again, how would you prepare differently? Has a woman ever graduated from the Operators Training Course? I’m 5’8” and 168lbs, is that a good or bad size? What books or workout programs would you recommend to prepare for it?

Delta is in a different class. You have to go back and look at who formed Delta. Some of the finest soldiers ever produced. Go research Eldon Bargewell. Go look up Charlie Beckwith. Go look up Dick Meadows. These men served in Vietnam in SOG. Tough as nails. Meadows is an absolute legend. Devgru is not the same. Delta is just on a different level.
