Omg I wish I could have a classmate like you :'( Sometimes people are so discouraging and try to freak you out with negativity. How do you stay motivated, or like how do you maintain the right attitude to keep you persevering? Love watching all of your videos it keeps me uplifted! Thx :)
Kittikan Sangthongtong Hello, I am a male student finishing my dental hygiene school at the end of this year. You will see that when you do clinics, you make the difference for the oral health of the patient. It is really rewarding.
I did my 1st semester and I kind of hate it the teachers gave me a bad experience. Unfair grading and they yell a lot, very disrespectful. I had so much passion for DH but my instructors made me hate it. Also the career has some cons as well, it’s a bit exhausting on the back and shoulders plus the repetitive use of the wrist/fingers. Even though we aren’t supposed to use finger activation, the pressure applied to the fingers can cause damage overtime. Also let’s not forget that even after graduation in the real world you’ll always be working under a dentist supervision and that can get annoying because most dentists can be a pain in the ass and will always criticize your work somehow... so after thinking long-run I might change my major!
Hang in there..it can be overwhelming but it is so worth it. I graduated in 1985 & still loving it.. Too funny Our patients paid $5.00 for an ENTIRE year of treatment..lol.
Hello, I have questions can you help me with it, I'm little convicting about which one is better dental assistant or dental hygienist and is it hygienist harder?? Thank you so much
I live in the D.C. Area and there is no hygiene program in my county. Out of my county all of the colleges only take 15-25 students per year...wish me luck, I don't even know how to study best for me.
You got this! Most people apply with no "real" intensions. Put your mind to it and kick ass in all your pre reqs. You will learn how to study for you it's a learning process. If you have farther questions or want me to look at your schools requirements feel free to email @ Jacklyn_wolfe@yahoo.com.
I am the only male in my program :( will it be the same in the field, also do you work with males,Right now I am in Denver though right now and love it out here I am glad I stumbled across your videos and love them !
How did you get accepted into Hygiene School? Did you intern or already have a Dental Assistant job before this? I heard it is highly competitive to get in, and I am trying to see how I can have a chance with no dental background. I have been looking for places to intern or train on the job. Thank you so much for the video!
It is highly competitive..I had no dental background what so ever. Our application process is through prereq. grades. so that's my number one tip is get those pre grades as high as you can. I retook chemistry from a B+ to an A to make sure I got in... I know that sounds discouraging but you got it! It took me 2 years but it's something I wanted to bad and just worked really hard. Talk to your school/future school adviser and they will be able to tell you the exact criteria for you to get in :)
Hey dere im a Bachelor Of Dental Surgery(BDS) graduate in India....just wanted to know if dere is any Post Graduate diploma or smthin related to dental hygiene....how can in get into dat course in Canada?
I did not do good in highschool. But it has been a dream of mine to be a dental hygenist. Can my hs grades affect my chances of getting into that proffesion?
hi there! I was an average student is HS. My suggestion would be take gen ed classes pertaining to dental classes (biology, chemistry .. whatever your school would use as gen ed's for the program) You can do whatever you put your mind to !! If i can do it, anyone who has the same passion can.
So I live about 2 hrs always from the college that I plan to attend for the program and really don’t want to have to worry financially for housing. Do you think driving to school every day is doable?
I commuted everyday but my drive was under an hour & some days I commute to an office that is an hour and 20 from me, which isn't horrible.. but having homework and everything after class might be alot on you! Not to mention the price of gas & if you have car troubles might be harder to get there. Let me know how it goes. It's soooo worth it in the end!
How is the course work.. like is it mostly studying a lot of material or writing papers, presentations.. Idk maybe this is a stupid comment but I'm curious as to what makes it most difficult.
Yes I did! It mostly went off your pre req grades and most of mine at the time were B's from HS, therefore I had to retake classes to get an A to get in
How many hours of shadowing and volunteering/extracurriculars are recommended? Would a program for a bachelor degree still accept me if I only study? No other activities besides working for money in college?
+J Wolfe Okay, thank you so much for responding. I am going to begin my dental hygiene journey this fall and am trying to prepare myself as much as possible for the future. I'm so thankful you have this channel!
+J Wolfe Don't feel bad about not making more videos...School has to come first. I understand. Although I do look forward to watching your future videos, when you have the chance to upload. :)
I can be! You have to figure out what study style works best for you! Mine was flash cards and re-writing my notes. It’s definitely do - able though :)
