How Hard is Terraria's True Melee Legendary Mode?

I would consider myself fairly experienced (not to brag, but I have beat master mode) and even I have trouble in expert and harder but taking the time to get buffs and potions can make bosses way easier and they’re basically mandatory in master mode

Im pretty sure in the game files/wiki, the ‘sword’ you see the starlight produce is actually a ‘projectile’ but due to the actual washed range people generally say ‘fuck it’ and count it as melee (i do too)

@@davidsoto5851 I view the definition of a true melee run as projectile free, which is why personally the Night's Edge sub weapons reworks really sucked since it made 90% of them projectile, and the Night's Edge too into a projectile

@@davidsoto5851 you do know that every weapon in the game is made with a Projectiles, a broadsword is just a projectiles that is spawned in and goes around you, that just so happens to be called "Sword", as it's just flat out smarter to code weapons that functon the same with the same variable, ansd then make unique ones for weapons that function differantly. Like Starlight. I'm not sure if you've ever heard of a "Hold Out", it's the projectile that you spawn in when you use any weapon in the game that is connected to the player (this does not include thrown objects), the Hold Out is The actual Emerald Staff projectile that appears when you use the weapon, thne that spawns a secondary projectile form there. Sadly True melee as a term is too losely defined in terraria, in something like calamity they try to make it more clear, but still not perfect by any means. but the best way to look at it is: -Deals Melee damage, -The Hold out is connected to the player, -Doesn't shoot out secondary projectiles, unless it is a result form a Hold Out hitting the target first. with this you can very easily determine if a weapon is just an Unique True melee weapon or just a basic melee weapon. if a weapon looks like it might have a secondary projectile, then a good test to see if that's the case it to see if hitting a dummy with just the suspected "secondary projectile" deals the same damage as if both the Hold out and the suspected "secondary projectile" are hitting it, as then you can tell if it's connectend or not, by if the dps changes. This tests tells us that both Starlight and Night's Edge are both True melee, but for example the Rotted Fork, Dark Lnce and Gungnir are not True melee, as they have a Shockwave ath the tip of the spear, as the wiki calls it, meaning the light at the tip is not just the tip being bigger, but a seperate Shockwave, where as on the Starlight you can clearly see that all of the weapons damage is connected as a singular Hold Out projectile. The Night's Edge, is also similar as the 2 swings can not hit the same target at the same time, and only increses the time the hirtbox of the weapon stays active, and is clearly jsut a second larger swing.

FTW legendary mode is barely legendary mode

@@KwikBR if you think of GFB as The Legendary mode, then you have the wrong view of what Legendary mode is, it is not GFB, it is FTW on Master, that is tThe literal meaning of Legendary mode, if GFB had all it's changes but not FTW in it, it would not be Legendary mode. Legendary mode is just a difficulty mode like Classic, like Expert, like Master, you just need FTW to access it. and GFB is just FTW, with the other seeds mixed in, and a few loot table changes, GFB by itself is not that hard, even on Legendary mode when compared to FTW over a full playthrough, as the bosses generally aren't too bad on either. and GFB is only harder in PH where you lack mobility or survivability, and since the world gen means you need to mine a good 3 times more to get anywhere, so it just slows down a playthrough a lot.

that is literally just a second swing, that can not hit the same target at the same time as the 1st swing, it's just extends the lingering duration of the hitbox if the target is within both swings.

by that logic calamity true melee isn't true melee at all

Everything in the game that the players holds is a projectile, they just have different names, for coding reasons as it far easier to use 1 variable name for similar things like the basic movement of the swords that are just spawned in projectiles that move around the player, they are called Hold Outs, but since night's edge needs an unique 2nd hold out they just went with there probably more modern naming scheme and since there all still actually projectiles they just gave it a name. It is still just clearly a 2nd swing, and it doesn't even add to the weapons base dps in continued use, as it can't hit the same target with both swings at the same time, as they are considered the same swing. The fact that the 2nd swing just starts later means that the actually hitbox lingers for a bit longer
