This is sort of a second edition version of "how hard uchicago is" because I made one during first year, but honestly I probably didn't have any idea what I was talking about back then so here we are with an updated video lol. It's honestly such a variable thing to discuss, though (depending on other responsibilities, specific classes, professors, etc), but this has been my experience - I hope it helps to give some insight!! ☀️

Great video. I’ve sat on a number of national and international selection committees for what we call HDRs (grad students), and to be honest, it’s always contextual. It’s not using a single number, it’s looking at the context for that institution. So it would not be a disadvantage if you were applying to any decent institution. It’s possible some dodgy ones may just not know the higher education environment very well, but major grad programs really understand contexts. And of course GPAs don’t work the same internationally. We use 0 to 7 scale, where as you can imagine four would be very low. But even within countries you don’t use the same kind of measures that you would use for somebody leaving high school.
