Have spent over 20 years trying to decide which film is better… Lock, Stock or Snatch. The answer, it turns out, is whichever you’ve seen more recently. Absolute classics.
This is an excellent video. You taught me what an RPE and I’ve used the method since then and my training has never been better, or stronger. Thanks James for passing on free. Knowledgeable information most charge for. If you’re comfort eating right now, go the tim tams
I’m 44 and work with a lot of younger volunteers, and it is actually terrifying how old I am. They literally don’t know what an audio tape is, never heard of VHS, and if I ever discuss Oasis or Blur they’ll look at me blankly make some comment about their dad possibly having listened to it once, shrug and just walk away. Oh, and they don’t know what Inspector Gadget is. Never heard of it.
By the way, after watching a few vids and subscribing, i went back through your older vids and they perfectly answered a lot of questions i had (on things like creatine, protein powder, etc). They have all been very helpful but im pretty sure the comment i leave saying thanks isnt going to get read sooo lemme say thank you here. Great content 💪
James is the sort of bloke I could sit down and have a beer with, talk shit and go home happy, takes the piss but also incredibly knowledgeable. Top man…
Bonjour! 100% relate to kids these days not knowing proper good films. I drop so many references at work that fly over peoples heads that my coworkers bought me a set of plastic aviators wings. 😭
Sick video mate, I love it! I'm 37 but retaining as a software engineer, so doing an apprenticeship. This video is me talking to my 20 year old colleagues 😂
I know it comes down to preference but some people say you shouldn't go that far down in the squat because you technically lockout at the bottom for a split second then instantly reengage which can increase the chances of failing/getting stuck at the bottom and unable to finish the set back up. Also through not locking out the muscle it is technically under tension for longer even if the depth is slightly less and has a bigger burn feeling. But there are for and against for either technique
I'm pretty impressed with myself that I'm doing heavier weights in the gym than some actual fitness influencers. That's really neither here nor there, because we all dedicate different amounts of energy to the gym, have different goals and such, but just reaching that for me makes me think "well fuck I'm doing something right, because I'm this strong now, and I just keep getting stronger" and that makes me proud of my effort.
Jeff Nippard was really pedantic about how the R in RPE stands for "rating" and "rate" is incorrect Now I can't stop thinking about whenever I see RPE lol
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels was released in 1998; Snatch in 2000. That’s 26 and 24 years ago respectively. Which is definitely ‘not that old, about ten years ago.’
I found out the receptionist at work had not seen Team America last week and I was equally as blown away as your were in this video. Also I would hazard a guess that Ryan Williams is the biggest Australian youtuber?
James, please, pleaseeeee start a series where we can get updates on Daclan's progression about movies and songs, pleaseeee! :D P.S: hope the missus and bebe is doing well and you get enough sleep. On the couch. Like an animal. - referencing your billion dollar matrass video :D Cheers, xx
felt pretty good to know the "Jesus Christ Fenton" reference, to have seen Kevin and Perry go Large, Lock Stock, and Snatch a hundred times each, to know all the words to Foundations AND Newton Faulkners cover version, but then I realised it just means I'm getting old lmao
I had emergency surgery for my abdominal hernia at the start of the year, it was pinched. Groin done 10 years ago. Both surgery are holding up well, back to regular training .
James in absolute shambles when he finds out his camera man was born after Snatch was released. Also Mr Sunday Movies might be a shout for biggest Aussie YT'er.
Me to my kids "Family emergency! I can't have you growing up not knowing classic cinema. We're going to watch Snatch.. as soon as I locate something in this house that plays DVD's".
solid video, been putting off starting BJJ for 5 years now, 40 this year and need some focus and structure to my training, do you find the weight training compliments the BJJ well? Ive never followed any programme but primarily just do cardio and dont lift anything.
Came here for the answer to the question, left with Kate Nash nostalgia - thanks for generously investing in the unexpected gift. Also assumed anyone born pre Lockstock would be about five 😅 time moves fast.
Lock Stock and Snatch are classics, I'm similar age to Declan it's not a generation thing. Gentlemen was good but doesn't compare to the others. Foundations is also a great song.
Hey James, huge fan! Just started training BJJ again after watching pretty much every single one of your vids the last few days. Could you do a video on supplements such as Tongkat Ali and Ashwagandha? Been wanting to try them as heard plenty of benefits, but can’t tell if they are actually legit. Cheers!
Was Ok with Dec not seeing Lock, Stock, but then I had a feeling he was gonna say no to Snatch. My reaction is the same, Jams. These zoomers don't have a clue. Also, you now remember that scene in KnPGL where Perry takes a shit in the sea lol. Bless you mate.
Gonna start dropping "ze Germans" in conversation, bring it back. Also, the hardest line in Snatch: "It turned out that the sweet-talking, tattoo-sporting pikey was a gypsy bare-knuckle boxing champion. Which makes him harder than a COFFIN NAIL." "Why do they call him the 'Bullet Dodger'?" "... Because, Avi, he.. dodges bullets.." Fuck I'm gonna go watch it now.
5:50 I also have just discovered a epigastric hernia on the same spot. My doctor told me its best to have surgery sooner rather than later. Would be nice to get updates on how yours is doing !
Perhaps it's an experience and practice issue but I don't like judging my exertion each set. And entirely separately, Lock Stock, Snatch and the Gentleman are an absolutely incredible ~trilogy akin to "3 cornettos" from Wright and Pegg.
..I said I'd rather be with your friends mate cos they're much fitter" I remember listening to it on a radio when it first came out on my way from one shitty job to another in Manchester
oh man. I think i know who took the jam outta your donut James🙈🙉🙊 Maybe you make it required viewing list before hiring James. Bahahaha - awesome entertainment!
i used to do around 10 to 14 reps when i started training an intensity of about 7, now i do around 3 to 6 reps to failure with an intensity of 10, never felt so strong and athletic as i do now
Great vid mate! Can you address the changes in programming (rpe, reps, sets) for those of us transitioning from youngling to old farts (45+)... In my case still feel the strength but my shoulders and knees are like Elvis... No longer in the building!
I have a love hate relationship to RPE. Since I never do RPE 10s on compount movenents I am never REALY sure it was 7 or 7,5 or 8 or am I even underestimate myself and it realy was only 6? It always feel kinda weird
I’ll feel like everyone has the same reaction when they meet someone who hasn’t seen Snatch, and to a lesser extent, lock stock and two smoking barrels. 😂 “She’s terribly partial to the periwinkle blue, boys.”
you cut the video just before the best line in the song ''you said i must eat so many lemons because i am so bitter, id rather be with your friends mate because they are much fitter'' haha
