@phenom Well Indian hockey mein pehle se hi majority players Punjab se aate rahe hai including many great players. Past 49 years mein bhi yehi hua tha despite that there was no real revival, which is a fact. So players alone cant bring revival. For a sport to survive we need focus, money and resources - which just having players wont be ensured. Odisha govt and ex-Indian captain Dilip Tirkey ensured those aspects through their intervention for Indian hockey. Not having money and resources wont bring in good players in long run. Taking nothing away from any hockey players including those from Punjab who have in the past had access to better resources. Money is must in a game and thats what is being spoken about not about any player.

It's because it has a huge fan following which is followed by huge money. That's why saying just by following Hockey, you would be supporting it. The decision by European Nations, although unfair against us, made the game faster and more popular in Europe. Then our decline started. But FIH saw this and started to send funds to Indian Hockey Federation and our game started to improve. It's been a long road, and we deserve to be where we are now. Odisha hosted champions trophy 2014, hockey league2017, men's World Cup 2018, will be hosting again in 2023. India's largest hockey stadium currentlyunderconstruction in odisha. You can watch the opening ceremony of wc 2018, available in youtube.. it was a grand inauguration.

In a way the bcci which is an independent organization not coming under the sports ministry is to be blamed for poor response to other sport... Either all must be within sport ministry or none... This kind of independent body for cricket is not fair.. They raised huge funds and choked other sports in the country... I started disliking cricket when I learnt the lack of ethics at bcci

Sports ministry should make a mechanism through which BCCI can be made to contribute some funds and also in other ways for the upliftment of other Olympic sports which would help India, to bring some medals. India ka koi bhi national game nahi hai. Because India is too big and too diverse. Wrestling is popular in Punjab and Haryana, football is popular in Goa, northeast India and bengal, southern states have their own games also. Kabbadi is popular in Maharastra.

Hockey ka firse popular hone Mei Odisha me sponsorship ka bhi bohut bada yogdan hai. Hockey ka World cup bhi Odisha Mei hua. Khiladi toh humare pass 5-6 saal pehle bhi the jab hum 12th position Mei the but abhi good facilities ke wajah se hum aaj semi finals Mei aa Gaye. Agar tumhare hisaab se chale toh indian cricket team Mei bhi zyada players Delhi aur Maharashtra se aate hai toh team ka naam badal de kya? 2 leagues aaye thei Premier Hockey League and Hockey India League. Unfortunately both flopped. Also there was World Series Hockey but it was not recognised Hockey India.

Hockey India League stopped due to lack of attendance and TRPs. I doubt whether attendance was less as i have seen large number of crowds in stadium. Secondly, Hero Motocorp the main sponsor pulled out its sponsorship without giving any specific reason. Cannot blame only corporates but management should also be blame. It was nearly end of the road for Indian hockey as league stopped but really thankful to Orrisa government when corporates ignored Indian Hockey team they sponsored our Hockey team and also hosted Hockey World Cup. Still, unfortunately Hockey India League will not return soon.

If it becomes government responsibility then will start reservation war. Merit will have no place. There should be more and more sponsors for talents. Like our rich businessmen and cricketers should adopt the talented youngsters and take care of grooming them.

@@anujkishor9033 इससे कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता ओलंपिक का गोल्ड अपनी अलग अहमियत रखता है। इस तरह तो 1984 के लॉस एंजलिस ओलंपिक में रशिया और उसके मित्र देशों ने भाग नहीं लिया था और अमेरिका 84 गोल्ड मेडल जीतकर सर्वश्रेष्ठ बन गया था। दूसरे नंबर पर रहने वाला रोमानिया सिर्फ 20 गोल्ड मेडल जीत पाया था ।

So wonderful. I was always thinking what went wrong with Indian Hockey. The analysis is logical and spot on and drew tears from my eyes. Let us hope that these athletes who play Hockey for India are suitably rewarded as really India with the worlds largest population is in tops of cricket but sadly Sarkari apathy is responsible for us getting so few medals in the Olympics and other international sporting events. I am a sporty woman since childhood and have always liked athletic games like running, high jump, long jump. Although I never became professional player my love for games is still the same. Then in my child hood as mentioned in this video a sporting hero came, "Sachin Tendulkar" and I hell bend on watching cricket. Even going in tears when India used to lose in spite of Sachin's century. But some part of me was also very much inclined in understanding and following hockey. Its really sad politics ruined players like Dhanaraj Pillia. Hope for hockey to regain its original glory in India. Following and supporting team India (both men and women) in Olympic 2020/21.

Hockey has history and rich culture, it takes only one gold to to take it to the heights which cricket world cup can't. I have watched cricket all my childhood but somehow I get instant connect with hockey whenever I hear that we have done good in this game. I feel that hockey is in our blood we only need one spark to reliaze it.
