It is incredible how in 2024 one can go from idea to sales so fast and with very limited "artistic skills". It really shows the power of technology (and how much young people like you benefit from learning about it).

Good on you for reusing those spools! If you are looking for a way to reuse empty spools, I have just the way! If you are using bambu spools, you might want to consider printing the reusable spool carousel that you can see on bambu lab's channel. Another way is to purchase refills instead of new filaments with spools on bambu lab's store, iirc, you can get 4 dollars off on a new spool, you might also be able to get some out of stock colors!

Empty spools can be used to make stackable item drawers. There are designs for this on Thingiverse and Printibles. Each compartment can be made to slide or swing out, depending on design, it's a great project, and not too hard if you don't mind sacrificing the print time for them. Alternately if you're kinda handy, the compartments can be made from wood.

This is pretty interesting! I've been making pseudo-woodblock prints by using rendered grayscale images (or color ones that I've converted and adjusted the exposure and contrast) and just bringing them directly into Cura. Cura will then ask you if you want the darker parts to be elevated and the lighter lowered or visa versa. It's simple but it's also a quick way to print out fonts for 3D signs and car/motorbike emblems. From here you can use them as-is, or use polystyrene and a vacu-former for something a little more weather-hardy if you're using PLA like I am.

1:48 I heard about this somewhere else, still need to try it myself. I’ve been saving my empty spools to roll my Christmas lights onto. There’s probably a little clip you could print also (using the last little bits of filament) that clips onto both the spool and the end of the lights to keep them from unraveling. Like I said, I havent tested this yet but it seems like it would work well!

I think bookmarks are a good category to add to your product theme of teacher table top accessories. Try a top surface pattern of hilbert curve for your hueforge prints And lastly there are ways to 3d print on top of transparency paper. You could use a laser/inkjet printer to print designs on transfer film, mount it on the build plate and 3d print the bookmark ontop of it. It wouldn't be 3d but you'd have a cool design that supports more colors and it would probably print way faster.

These look pretty cool, I'll have to try out HueForge. I wonder if this could somehow be used to make lithophane prints more realistic. Also, I couldn't exactly tell from the settings I saw in your video, but it looks like you may have used rectilinear patterns for the top surface infill based on the way the light reflects off of the surface of the bookmarks and accentuates regions of darker/lighter patches of infill which were laid in different directions. If so, you could try using the monotonic infill instead, which ensures it lays down the lines all in one direction and dramatically increases the visual consistency of the top surface. In any case, I've been enjoying your videos and keep it up :) giving you support from Holly Springs, NC.
@macymakes3d
@macymakes3d 4 месяца назад
Wow thank you I’ll give that a try! Once it says “can’t use that infill at 100%” I assumed it had to be the rectilinear since that what it changed to but now it know. ☺️

First of all, I'll let you know that it has nothing to do with the channel, it's just a rant about the world of 3D printing. Today, I bring a different perspective on 3D printers, based on the research I carried out. I came to a conclusion that I would like to share. I have a comment about the world of 3D printing, which, contrary to what some say about accessibility, is still a world for few. Despite the criticism I may receive for this, I believe that although printers have become more affordable, there is still a long way to go before they become an achievable dream for many people, including myself. It's not just the initial cost of the printer that must be considered. An often overlooked point is the ongoing cost of the filament. Just like in the early days of inkjet printers, where the price of ink was an obstacle, today we face similar challenges with filament. Even though printers have become a little cheaper, filament remains a considerable investment. It is notable that over the years we have not seen a significant reduction in filament prices. There appears to be a lack of real competition, resulting in companies setting prices almost like a monopoly. Filament quality is also a concern, with reports of poor quality not justifying the investment. Another aspect that is rarely addressed is the amount of material wasted due to unsuccessful prints, especially for beginners. Even though errors decrease over time, they do not disappear completely. This is a relevant point to consider, as it contributes to additional costs and not to mention environmental issues. That's why I say it and I repeat, cast the first stone if anyone who has never been through this, even with vast experience, still prints with errors and has to do it all over again, no matter the printer or your knowledge, there will be errors and as a result waste of material and input costs. what we need and start thinking about this issue, well the filament should be cheaper or there should be a collection of inputs by suppliers especially those that went wrong or leftovers that new printers leave to make multicolor parts and why not buy back the material, it would help the person who bought it and nature thanks you. antes de qualquer coisa ja aviso que não tem nada a ver com o canal é apenas um desabafo sobre o mudo das impressões 3d Hoje, trago uma perspectiva diferente sobre impressoras 3D, baseada nas pesquisas que realizei.

@macymakes3d

I only have one AMS per printer. If it uses more than 4 colors I just add pauses so I can switch out filament from earlier slots. Like if it needs 5 colors I'll add a pause when it's printing in slots 3 or 4 so I can put new filament in slot 1 for color 5 to use. 6 would go in slot 2, 7 in slot 3, and continuing on.

just a observation, you might want to consider for the bookmarks using the process devin from make anything channel uses to create his phone cases it produces a similar effect to hueforge but since its kind of a reverse printing (the bottom is the face up portion) its completely flat. I say this as it appears that some of your designs (space, pickle, etc.) have raised parts (little dots here and there, etc.) and lower areas, and if used in a book i would expect to be little pressure points on the paper and would indent them (emboss/deboss) those areas and people might get pissed if your book marks "ruined" their pages... (i know people can be weird/finicky!) I too am making bookmarks but unlike you mine are a mere 1 or 2 mm in thickness (so they are flimsy, but its plastic so it works!) and currently the only "pattern" i'm using are the patterns on the various build plate surfaces you can buy off amazon and i'm printing them in transparent petg and then attaching a ribbon and maybe a tassel. :D Keep up the great work on the videos and looking forward to seeing your outcome in Etsy for these (price and sales stats)!

I finally did my 1st 2 color prints, simple 'ornament style' w/ raised letters/image. And I'm trying my 1st 3 color right now (similar w/ a single color base and the raised parts in 2 colors). Then I need to try upside down, w/ all colors flat on the same level.

I don't sell on etsy, but I would like to know what type of filament you use for your flexible bookmarks?
@macymakes3d

Just normal PLA, but the bookmarks are so thin that they're floppy.

I'm trying to print a hueforge bookmark on my a1 mini. I keep having issues. What size nozzle do you use for these?
@macymakes3d

The standard 0.4. What issues are you having?

@@macymakes3d My first layer keeps peeling up as the printer is going. I've cleaned the textured bed twice, but it keeps happening. I've changed the nozzle to the .2mm, but I could try using a glue stick?

I am curious on which Hueforge license that is recommended to be able to sell things like this?

The limited commercial ($45) allows you to sell prints. The professional commercial ($100) allows you to sell the files.

I keep getting "patterns cannot contain linked object(s). Please embed the object(s) and try again." Any ideas ? used --tile

When you import an image make sure you’re doing it by “place embedded” and that’ll embed your image. If it says it’s linked you need to embed it before you can use it. Should be at the top

I give my empty spools to my neighbor, who is a kindergarten teacher. They use them for crafts.
