I'm not done yet! Next week I'll start runs to take 5 more seconds off, and my ultimate goal is to get under 21:10. Follow my stream to watch live! www.twitch.tv/kosmic
@@aidanhogan-thomas1797 1 second in 3-4, 2 seconds in 6-4 with firebar skip, 2 seconds from 7-4 to the end, and then a bunch of little bits of time here and there that adds up to the rest
@@nuggnugg8464 He was making an observation about speedrunners, why would you ever be rude about that? It's really common for speedrunners to get excited and jump around lol your reply has an air of "reddit smug" to it. "ackshually everyone knows that not all speedrunners jump around, are you dumb?"
@@Tuvok_Shakur I apologise, I was trying to make a sarcastic comment for comedic effect about the nature of how different people react to achieving world record speedrun times and how it's quite normal for a wide variety of reactions depending on the person.
When I heard of the run I watched the last 3-4 worlds and missed the whole part about it initially being a small fire run. Nice job with the explanation, it really does make sense that this was an accidental WR!
@@DavidvanDeijk Probably, but the short answer is that if there are too many things on screen like bullet bills, etc, the flag fails to spawn/despawns.
Have you seen Darbian's Dan Marino run (Super Mario Land I think)? Or his "Now that's roast beef!" SMB1 run? Classic world record runs, where I think the humor the whole time must have helped keep him relaxed. But still clutch!
3:44 Where kosmic searched and copy/pasted the link for his small fire video is part of the run in my book. Super fast! But because little Gregory asked that question in chat, it caused kosmic to become distracted and grab the fire flower.... And the rest is history!
By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail - Benjamin Franklin I thought of this immediately when you talked about the 4-two pattern. Except you did the inverse “By succeeding to prepare (for just such an event), you prepared for success” This record is an actual testament to the very tangible benefits of preparation and planning
That part at the 23:32 was really funny. I'm not sure what advnaced strat Kosmic was trying to do, but it just looked like Mario completely flubbed the jump . Fun world record to watch!
You can't get full running speed by just heading right, so I walked left to get more room to accelerate. Jumped like 1 frame early and didn't get speed.
This run was a real rollercoaster of emotions for us there watching it. At first we thought you killed the run, then we slowly realized you were on WR pace...it was a good day
I could actually feel the moment where it went from, "This is not supposed to happen" to "OMG this is happening". My anxiety bro. Seems like when you have the skill and knowledge it's just a matter of time for everything else to line up for a WR run. Attitude seems to go a long way too. A player has to be somewhere in-between relaxed and hyper focused, which is what happened on this run. Congratulations Kosmic!
Is there, like, a World Record Pace Signal (akin to the Bat Signal) that alerts Niftski and Miniland to appear in the chat right in the middle of world 8? :D
It makes sense that Kosmic says unironically yes If someone in your speedrunning community is possibly getting world record or a really good PB, especially if you run the game/category, you're gonna want to hear about it and I'm sure someone is blowing up a Discord or your DMs 😂
My man's doing speedruns without intention of winning, and wins ... if i didn't know any better, i'd call it luck, but this is a skill non-issue! This man could do it the pro way, by eating and drinking whilst getting his WRs. He also casually counts all pixels in the game, cuz why not? Well, GG and GZ! You did it again!
i can understand fluking a run like those mentioned in the beginning but being able to just adapt to a completely different run like that while still maintaining wr pace is absolutely ridiculous to me, its really impressive!
_Bowser's Minions_ "We're sorry sir...that bastard of a plumber was a demon! He just blew past all of us...to him, most of us weren't even worth killing!"
Congrats man. Crazy journey. After that ridiculously long unlucky rut, you got a pb and then turned right around and got this like a week later. It's insane how these things just kind of come in bunches.
Heck yeah kosmic! Thats how its done! You say you wanna take it lower than this, dont see how thats possible this run was already amazing. Guess we'll have watch and find out
Congratulations Kosmic! Your ability to stay optimistic and hopeful is always an uplifting thing to witness! Here’s to many more great memories and moments to come 🎊
I love the absolute chad move you did on Retroachievements, came, got the first mastery of the 5 minute challenge and disappeared from the site as fast as you arrived.
Hi, Kosmic! It was so nice to see you show up on my recommended page! I was subscribed to NRG and I was so sad when it stopped! You and LittleKirbs really carried the channel, but I was never into Mario content until the Mario Movie! Glad to see you're still killing it :)
You should switch the type of runs you do more often. In fact, every time the run gets too easy, switch. And switch back once the other run gets too easy. Our brain tends to work less when we are in a habit, and your performances will plateau. So when we put it in a situation that breaks the habit, it will be sharper. It is not a guarantee you will PB or WR every time, but you might get it more often.
Just played through all of Lost Levels last night out of morbid curiosity; it’s actually a good game surprisingly enough (with the 1-up exploit in W1-1 of course). I do think the general talk about LL being ball-crunchingly difficult is a bit exaggerated; not to say it isn’t a very tricky game but it’s considerably easier than the Ninja Gaiden trilogy, Ghosts & Goblins and BattleToads.
I accidentally got a new Google Minesweeper pr on normal mode of 17 seconds, which would be cool if I had actually recorded it. My previous best was 21 seconds, and that was already a very optimized time, so for me to drop the time by 4 seconds is insane. Too bad it was just a random game after I had finished my homework, so i didnt start recording
For those of you wondering like the person in chat on the video, regarding how small fire works. Each time you get hit, there is a process that is run in the background to check which state Mario is in. If he is big Mario/fire Mario, the process registers Mario as being hit and shrinks you, but if you are small, the process registers as death. If I remember correctly, the gist of it is: When you are hit by Bowser as normal fire Mario and you get the axe at the same time, the game doesn't know what to do with this information. The game's background process has an on/off switch for big Mario (0 for off/shrink and 1 for on/grow). Since you got the axe at the same time as getting hit, the game starts to initiate the process of you getting hit while big, but is cancelled mid-way by completing the level. So you stay big, but the game has already halfway done the switch and registered you as small, but did not finish the process and change Mario's sprite. The next time Mario gets a mushroom the game still has Mario registered as being small (0), but since his sprite is still big, it can only go the opposite way, so the mushroom shrinks Mario instead. But now now the game registers Marios state as having a mushroom (1), so the next time Mario gets a flower, it sees the mushroom state in the background process and just changes his color palette and gives Mario the flower ability while small. It's as complicated as it sounds.
