Suggestions: Bombs Button to speed up text scrolling Switching between attack mode and defence mode (attack mode allows the usage of the spear and other items while defence mode uses the shield and nullifies attacks for a period of time with a cooldown so not too op) Hearts explode with particles since right now it isn't too obvious that you are taking damage.
There Is so much potential here, with some good bosses and a lot of craftable things and some collectibles, this can truly be a memorable experience, all the best.
Random yet simple suggestion: the dialogue for "too far away" should be more semi-transparent than others, so players can easily distinguish it without actively having to read it.
To be honest, as a game developer, you get a train of thought and then suddenly "oh, yeah I should make that tile see-through before I forget". This video looks like my typical route. XD
Here's two ideas: -Snails should hide in their shells when you attack them -There could be different types of trees and the trees could have small size variations so the forests don't look boring Keep up the great work! (No pun intended ;))
You could add and item that keeps the fire alive longer than just a normal stick, like a log. Or you could add an item that makes the fire bigger so the max amount of time until it burns out increases. These things could be rewards for dungeons. This next part may be against what you are going for, but it may be nice to have a timer somewhere that tells the player when the fire will burn out. Having to guess could get annoying.
Suggestion: when reading a sign, the text shouldn't slowly appear, it should be instant because it looks like your talking to someone but you really aren't. Also don't take my word for it, lots of other games do this aswell Hope it helps (: Love the game btw
You should make a boss snail that lives in a abandoned dungeon and leaves a slime trail behind it and you get slowness when you walk over it and maybe when it gets passed half health it goes into its shell and it spins around and you have to hit the weak spots on the shell? Idk just an idea and I love how much this game has Changed from the first devlog but it still has the same creative feel to it!
i am a CS student that watched all the progress of keeper from start, it looks really good and seems promising so keep up the good work, excited for this game !!
Contact damage makes sense for enemies like the fire elemental, but it tends to be quite annoying. You could add an attack animation to the enemies and only while playing that, the enemy can damage the player. It would make combat more engaging and the enemies more interesting. The snails could curl up and roll around to ram the player. The slimes could do a small, angry eyed pounce with particles apearing when it lands. The dragon could breathe fire and slash at you with its claws.
There are actually blue bees in the real world, so adding different coloured bees could be rly fun. Actually, you could have them have a random colour with some special ones like the elemental ones and maybe some shiny ones, you could add a way to catch bees so the players could collect these like pokemons or trophies I know people do this already irl but you could make it less grim lol
Anuke is the developer of one of my favourite games, Mindustry. It's a legitimately good game with constant development. Surprised he found the time to attend Game Jams in between.
You are making great progress! Looking forward to following along. From an artistic perspective, in regards to the visual style in your game and the issue everyone is having with the particles, it's because visually they do not match. But thankfully you can fix this! Most games that incorporate pixelated particle animations like your fire sprite also create shape consistencies within the rest of the game sprites overall. This can be done through shading, or placing that shape (4 pixel square) within your environment sprites. For example, in replace of the two small cross shaped sprites you have in your grass tile. It doesn't seem like a big difference, but intuitively players will be more accepting of the aesthetics, as that shape language will be present more throughout your game. Hope this helps in some way. :)
awesome job i just want to say remember to keep your outlines consistent, if one thing has a black outline they all should. stay consistent and it will really help!
It looks so nice and fun to play already! My suggestions would be to add a background for the hearts when they’re empty so you can see your health bar better, since having it clear makes it a bit hard to see at times. Other than that, some kind of fishing system (no game is complete without one), and perhaps a boss for each biome. Having the ability to get some pets that might help out in different ways (combat, health regen, movement speed, etc.) would also be cool.
Suggestion: with the elemental bees comes elemental honey for example blazing honey (fire element honey) can be used as one of ingredient to make fire resistance potions and also be dropped to the ground as a form of trap that slows enemys and inflicts miner burning damage and its also could be added to the tip of spears and arrows (if you add them) to inflict some degree of slownes and burning damage
a new dragon type: the bee dragon elemental (fire) summons swarms of fire bees to attack you and breathes fire while its wings spreads blazing honey to random tiles that has slownes+burning damage.
Giant snails are the size of bees and the player is the size of a tree. If you're using abstract sizes, I think you need to exaggerate things that are truly big. The red plus shaped flowers look like health pickups. Also, if you ever add green or red slimes, you won't be able to tell them apart from the glass slimes. Maybe make them a transparent white with a shine? Sorry to be so critical, I do actually think the game looks quite nice and charming nonetheless :)
It would be cool if there was random terrain changing events, like a lava lake exploding and the rocks around it just start falling, or a giant monster emerging from a lake and splashing water all around, could be also a mini boss or something.
I'm half way through the video and ever since I watched one of the previous ones where you talked about the slime, and the music volume changing on its location. It would be really cool if you did something with the sleeping dragon in the thumbnail like similar to what they do for piranha plant and it's lullaby in SM64 or the other thing I could see is your mindlessly roaming the new world that was just generated and you hear boss music start to get louder and louder till you realize some hulking rock monster is right behind you read to crumple your cheeks like a piece of paper. Bit of a extreme explanation and certainly long but you said you read every comment or I'm assuming you try to. I just binged your videos and I'm working with a friend dabbling in a bit of game dev (more so pixel art) for a small personal project. So these videos have been inspiring to say the least. I can't wait for more. Keep doing what you're doing, love to see it!! 🙏❤️😌
I think it would be cool if you kept procedural generation, but had areas of the world where it always put dungeons, and the biomes are always on the 4 corners of the map
I would love to see more of this I think it is interesting and I would love to see everything that you had to it because all of it seems like it would be a great game and I would love to see how this goes in every update to this dance and I hope that you upload a new video since this is a great series and the videos are very good
Hey, this looks pretty cool. Suggestions: The sound for the text is annoying for my ears, so maybe make it a bit softer. I love the bees. It could be cool, if the fire bees have different wings from the regular bees, so their silhouette is a bit different. ALLOW ME TO PET EVERYTHING (or just the bees, snails and the dragons)
I have a suggestion, i think... it would be better if you hit a bee, they will fight back then after a few moments... they will slowly die because they lost their stinger *Just like how real life works :D*
You could make an experience system from killing and making things, and then further into the story you can access a certain area which houses the 2 frogs, who give you certain items for the xp
4:23 The dungeon floor tiles have distractingly much contrast. They look too much like walls. I suggest lightening up the cracks so that the dungeon floor has the same or similar contrast to the grass floor so that what is on top will pop out more.
A suggestion I would make would be to pace out the text sound so that the sentences pause. It'd add a nice cadence, which could break up the solid sound and give it a bit of time to breathe, if that makes sense?
I think it would look a lot nicer if you added a tree that was 4 tiles big or other decorations that break up the space. It will make the forest area look more polished.
@@nextProgram Ay since you said you wanted us to give you ideas how about before you instantly get in a boat how about it takes four or five logs to make one first. A little pop up text could come on the screen saying you need to craft a boat or one saying ‘craft a boat’ if you have the materials. Thought it’d be a cool feature, great video again! Looking forward to the lore :)
As a fellow game dev, I know all too well that you need to focus on the highest priority tasks. Which is why when I see your character, he reminds me of nacho libre and I absolutely must implore you to give the character a luchador mask. like I said, Highest priority tasks
Btw for the graveyard biome you can add the ability to steal from the graves(grave robbing) and have a chance of spawning a monster instead of loot, just a thought.
You should add a ghost mob, if you kill 5-10 creatures it has a chance off spawning in. And if it spawns in it starts flying around you and decreases your vision
Idea 1 I don’t know if you where joking but if you didn’t change the text sound it’s kinda annoying Idea 2 the main character previously had a shield. That could be an item that you could use to block/stun the enemy Also keep up the great work (:
i love pix art games, Your game looks very interesting, I just wanna play it. Square particle effect looks so cool and unique, also give particles to animal walking. Player movement animation need some work beside all of that why he is naked 😂😂
I thought of an Idea for the combat mechanic. Since you throw your spear, I thought it would be cool if you had a rope tied to it so you could kind of lasso it around, it could also make it so that you don't lose your spear after 1 throw.
Man, this is lookig really good. Keep up the good work. But if there's one thing I want to see is a boomerang. No reason, I just like boomerang weapons.
Idea: Some form of customization? Even if its just some simple stuff like gender, colors, etc. Would help make the Keeper feel more unique to the player
