In 2019 I played the BEST chess tournament of my life, ranking second after 5 rounds of the european youth chess championship (girls under 18 years old). In this video I analyse game number 6, which was the whole turning point of the tournament. Hope you enjoy the video! :)

Congrats Anna, great tournament and great video. Had you not respected your opponent as much based on the ratings i believe you would have won. This is why Chess is a sport, competitive, threatening, tactical, mentally challenging. Glad you found a way to bring these experiences to all of us. This was quite eye opening !

Damn! I don't know how you managed to stay so positive and enthusiastic after that tournament. I gained a new respect and understanding of how much you must love chess. My only hope and wish for you is that you get back on that tournament horse so to speak and join the ranks of the highest rated players in the world and be recognized among your peers as a force to be reckoned with in Chess. Good luck to you Anna! I'll continue to watch you grow as a chess player and look forward to seeing a GM next to your name.

Glad you shared this with us. The Anna joke didn't get laughter out of me, but I was smiling on the outside while giggling inside, which counts for laughing though it doesn't show as bombastically as laughter. It's my way of saying I really liked your coherence throughout the game, you seemed to be really committed throughout the early game to the statement "I am not trading my black bishop for yours without compensation" which was legitimate, after trading the bishop for something extra you could finally focus on the game but a part of you seemed to me to think the job was completed after you proved the value of your bishop, which created cracks in your ability to shut off outside influence and concentrate for a small while. By the time you recovered, the endgame was fast approaching and your oppenent ultimately closed the deal through end-game experience, which you managed to gain thanks to this loss, so we can call it a win-win in a sense. All in all a truly inspiring tale. My advice if you are still getting those "pick the wrong piece moments" would be "after a local win, try adding an hint of self-deprecation to remind yourself that what is done is done in good as well, and the game is still ongoing"; otherwise, if you don't risk to lose on time under the given time-management "let your clock run out a bit longer than needed when you feel you've finally gained something significant and use that time to turn some of that enthusiasm and relaxation back into focus", which would be the ideal way to deal with the situation after taking an appropriate amount of time to bask in your own achievement, I leave that up to your time management, which also needs positive reinforcement.

Thanks a lot for sharing this story. On the one hand, it looks like it was a rather pivotal game for you since you were so close to doing a lot better in the tournament with potential positive ripple on effects on the subsequent tournaments. On the other hand, you probably weren't quite ready yet in terms of experience. In any event, it is great that this game, although heartbreaking, delivered a very important chess lesson to you. I hope you'll consider to continue playing competitively. We love your chess videos but we also want you to make the most out of your chess potential.

I dont want to psychoanalyze, but narratively, if this story was a movie, the story at 2:10 or so when anna talks about making the joke about how all the annas are doing well with no reaction is really insightful to the character. because our anna is underrated and didnt expect herself to perform so well (nor did anyone else), you could look at that comment as a kind of attempt to fit in and say that she, anna, is there rightfully. and the lack of response indicated that the other competitors did not feel like anna fit in with them. again, if this were a movie adn the writers added that part intentionally, thats what id make of it. i know real life doesnt always have stories like that.
