One of the most important things I feel is , as you mentioned living below your means. We had been saving our $1 bills for around two years. We had gathered so many they wouldn't fit in the place we had been keeping them anymore. So we cashed them in at the bank yesterday it took about 30 mins and two tellers to count the $2950 we had saved up. Now it's going in our emergency fund and not being touched.

My washing machine started getting louder and louder on the spin cycle. It almost sounds like an airplane taking off in my garage. I called a repairman out and he gave me a laundry list of things that needed fixing= totaling up to over $400. I paid him his $79 visit charge and decided to use it until it died. I found out that if I did not utilized the supe size button and only went with a large sized load that my machine was not as noisy. It has lasted me 8 more years and is still working. It is a commercial size machine, but I no longer place oversized loads in it. Amazing that it is still going strong. I also now have a "free" backup one for when this one actually dies. Mine has 17 years on it. They don't make ones like it anymore.

You know I love a home tour! I love that you've given chores to your daughter's boyfriend. My mother never knew how many would be for dinner with all the boyfriends and girlfriends, lol. One thing you may want to consider when you replace your flooring is to use vinyl planks throughout the house. It's good for wet areas and makes the rooms look larger as there is a continuation of the flooring. We kept carpet in our bedrooms, and you may want to do the same. We're in our little furnished apartment in Houston and realize how little you really need. I've been cooking using different types of cookware. I brought a sharp knife from home, thank goodness. We did purchase 3 knives to leave for the next tenets. I also need to replace a bowl that I thought was microwave safe, yikes! I hope I don't have any more adventures with cooking, lol. Love to all, Linda 💕

This is all so fantastic. I also use most things until the end of their life. I love getting good use and having money well spent. Most recent incident was the fitted sheet on my bed disintegrated. My daughter got a chuckle out of that. I used it for years until it was threadbare and had massive holes. I liked it for certain times of the year because it's a 100% cotton. I already had a replacement, I just didn't want to part ways with it until the end of its useful life. Plus I always think about how things are going into the landfill and mindful consumerism as well as saving money.
@rusticgardenretreat4892
@rusticgardenretreat4892 7 месяцев назад
I wholeheartedly agree with you on the landfill thing. I grew up with a mom who lived through the depression and as a child she taught me how to make braided rugs/mats out of scraps. We even tore strips to stuff the winter beds of the dogs that slept out on the front porch unless the temps fell into the single digits. I can't stand to see wood go into the garbage.
@3TXSisters
@3TXSisters 7 месяцев назад
I'm the same. I'll use things until the end. We have a sofa and loveseat purchased in 1991. It is very much a 90's stripe, but the most comfortable sofas in the world. Everyone in the family is after me to replace them. I may look into recovering them, lol. I actually repaired the upholstery where the welting was frayed. I had some embroidery silk that I think blended nicely, lol.

@@3TXSisters awesome!!! Furniture was so well made back then. That's amazing it's lasted this long and you'll be able to repair it. Sadly there comes a time when we do have to replace things and say goodbye. Until then maybe you could get a slip cover? That could modernize the look of it inexpensively

That is a great color for you. I discovered my cache of pink lady apples had gone a little soft. I'm going to make them into an apple crisp, with reduced sugar. I think I will love it! LOL. Right now, I am trying to use up ALL of the food in the fridge (not the freezer), scrub it, and make sure the oils and condiments are still okay. * The Freezer: I am going to take the freezer inventory, and figure out what I need to buy to make the freezer food into a month's worth of entrees. I lost of track of the rotation, and this is my way of overcoming that error. I loved seeing what you have made, Money Mom. I could smell that pumpkin bread. This video inspires me. You have a nice home. My home is paid for also but it needs major repairs.we do all repairs ourselves to the house and to our vehicles as well as our appliances.My fiance fixes everything. We save lots of money on contractors and mechanics and bodywork expenses. I cook and bake up to 4 times a week and I freeze everything we don’t use right away. I pack my disabled son’s lunch every day the night before he goes to his program. I eat out once a month and then skip a month or two. We have to get a roof on the house and garage soon.Veterans are going to help him out with that. He’s a hvac refrigeration certified technician so he installed our central heating and air system by himself we save a lot of money on labor. I’m buying new furniture though in a few months when the house is mostly done because with a renovation I want new furniture I have not had new furniture in 25 years I think I deserve it

We’ve had some unusual weather this season and we’ve had to use the heater more than any year in the past. It’s costing us about $150/$200 more a month to heat so, we’ve cut our budget in other areas, like food, entertainment (books, movies, etc.), travel (gasoline). We just recently retired and I’m kinda not liking cutting us off but it should start warming up in April and we can get back to normal. Plus side to all of this is that we’re really decluttering and deep cleaning and have been making a list of things to do and repair in the house. I’m feeling more organized.

hi Dawn. You are looking great. Your weight loss in showing, and your skin is glowing. Meal prep can take two hours a week. I've noticed that I don't have more than 30 minutes of patience for cooking dinner. If I think dinner is going to take longer than that, I start thinking about fast food. Which makes meal prep crucial. I'm trying to figure out a reliable time of week in which I can carve out two hours and have no one bothering me so I can prep. You look really well in true colors. Your yellow polka-dot shirt is definitely in your palette. I've noticed that people look good in their birth month's color palette. That'd mean your birthday is in summertime, is it? People in December are jewel-tones versus the cold color palette that one might think it would be.

We really don’t to remodel, but fresh paint would be wonderful and deep cleaning.

Sometimes just switching furniture (or just pictures) between rooms, painting an accent wall or changing a shower curtain breathes new life in a home that is starting to feel tired. I got a can of oops paint for $9 and repainted my bedroom. Along with moving the furniture around and changing out pictures made it feel so different to me for a total cost of $12 (additional money for tape). Pulling out the carpet cleaner and doing the carpet with Odoban also made it smell new 😀

Hi 👋 I'm interested to know why so many homes in America use a dryer after doing their washing? Fair enough if u have no yard space for a clothes line but the homes in America are mostly big compared to here in Australia. I use my tumble dryer sparingly & would never put a whole wet load in. But I think our electricity costs more than most countries. Its like 40cents a kw/hour
@shirleycampbell1026
@shirleycampbell1026 7 месяцев назад
In Canada dryer use increased because our mothers froze their fingers hanging clothes out at 0- -45°C. Those got brought in like boards that dripped dry onto the floors. A lot got carpets in 1960's-1990's. We get cold winter weather 5-7 months of the year. Both parents work now so time restraint. Also too much moist air in winter can cause problems. I understand our country has cheaper energy than a lot of place.🇨🇦

I live in Florida, and it's so humid most of the year that the clothes would never dry. I try not to iron any more than necessary, so the dryer helps with that. I do hang a lot of clothes to dry inside either flat on a guest room bed with a ceiling fan on or in the laundry room.

great MM! is the Boyfriend helping out with the food budget?! i sure hope so - we can't afford any freeloaders these days budgets are too tight. young men tend to eat for two! young people these days!! can hubby take on some of the regular maintenance around the house? would be a great way to save money and help contribute toward the household budget! every little bit helps - even if it's something very basic that he could pick up off youtube. think of all the money you could save if you could off load some of these simple tasks. it's a win win.

Again good advice 😀 Sometimes it can be less expensive to eat at home But helping your local community by eating at local restaurants on days they have specials I know it sounds like counter productive but competition in the market keeps over all prices lower and more affordable however if they have no business then larger companies can raise overall costs willy nilly, in addition sometimes these special s are cheaper in their cost than you can make it I try. to write this weekly treat into my grocery budget 😊 This also boosts my overall moral and that makes me feel more productive - sometimes it's just loaded sausages and chips and slaw and we carry them to a local park to play for a while while enjoying a picnic - I mean think loaded hot dogs a drink and chips with my premade salad for only just under$5 depending on the group, if not athletic fly kites, go for a walk and scavenger hunt with your camera, are all ways to enjoy the day off and give back to the community by supporting a local business and keeping prices competitive 😊❤ love your ideas just sharing some often not considered costs that need to be considered when fighting inflation ... and having this to loo forward to keeps your stress level down win win , when you think about it.
