Yooooo. That's craaaaazy. I remember watching that very ending scene in True Detective and thinking about how powerful the sound design and composition was for that bit. Great work! Off topic, but that season of TD is one of my most favorite seasons of any tv shows.
Very cool! Very inspirational. I definitely need to revisit using movie footage as inspiration to draw sounds from. Very cool use of the Syntakt with its creepy fm engine and booming bass drums. 👍👍
Just came across your channel but have always been a fan of soundtrack music and Elektron, so I was stoked to see someone doing both. Looking forward to whatever content you have planned, would love to see more videos on your process :)
Sky, I have been searching for someone or something to help me explain a good process and workflow for this kind of thing. Your awesome keep up the great work. Subscribed commented and gave a thumbs up. Thanks again!!!
its reassuring to know the syntakt is flexible enough to be used for stuff like this rather than standard electronic techno stuff, still slowly getting my head around mine, i honestly think if i didnt have RU-vid as resource to learn how to use it i would have sent it back by now lol
Electron and film music is the crossover I needed ;) Thanks for sharing also your thoughts and process behind this. I probably would've chosen a more filtered kick similar to the ubiquitous sub booms or daikos, but that highly depends on the type of music needed of course.
Thanks for the feedback 🙂 I love all the different possibilities with this machine... Sometimes it can be hard to make a choice of sound. I totally hear you about other kick possibilites. I happened to be spinning off of the vibe I was getting from the film's director at that time.
Great video. Really interesting to see the Syntakt used for a film score, and seeing your workflow and the different style of music, really makes me want to try score composition. Sorry if I'm using the wrong terminology :/
Thanks, I'm glad this grabbed your interest. I really think approaching song creation with a visual or narrative in mind is always an interesting approach when it feels right. I think you're actually using the right terminology -- which is not something I always manage to do. LoL.
Yeah. I studied Multimedia MANY MANY years ago. I get what your saying... I just "messed" with Probability and GAIN. levels PROBABILITY IS AWESOME. It's like you're creating with a Partner
Thanks for the feedback. To answer your question, every time I do a jam, it's an improvisation. So it turns out different every time. When i record it into my DAW as a multi-track, I choose to approach a final arrangement which is mostly inspired by my jam energy.
Very nice video! I’m doing lately with hardware, this type of music, very useful for movies and soundtracks. Are you using Ableton for this soundtracks works? Thank you :)
Thanks for tuning in :) I use both Ableton and Logic. I prefer Logic when I'm finely adjusting everything to the actual picture but i prefer Ableton for sound design and arranging. Then i export stems to Logic and do a final mix of stemmed music. Sometimes i also rework the track using Logic in the end.
This is me all day long. Ableton Live Suite + plug-ins + Push 2 + Elektron Syntakt + Akai Force. So, virtually the same except with the MPC instead, which actually makes more sense because it’s a more compact form factor. Although actually I just sold my Force a couple days ago and am buying an Octatrack.
