> No CS Degree, No Bootcamp Yet you still had very strong mathematics and statistics background at a university level. Good luck to the people seeing this that don't have that background. Their best option is to go do an undergraduate and pick up those skills, otherwise no chance. Don't underestimate the strong problem solving skills you develop in undergraduate and graduate level STEM program.

@@natural-926 If you study maths at Oxford then yes defo you can get a data science job! Just make sure to learn some python and maybe try a data science internship somewhere. The maths degree will give you great fundamentals. But, when applying to jobs you have to demonstrate an interest in the field. Hope this helps? And for physics vs maths, tbh it doesn't make much difference for a data science career. In maths you can tailor your modules to be more stats focussed, which is probably better. However, overall its miniscule.

Data scientist is just a title, it is more interesting what type of work you will be doing. I know "data scientists" who do tableau and power point all day, I also know data scientists who implement machine learning models in C++. Don't focus so much on the title figure out what you want to do.

Thanks for the resources and for sharing youe experience. Just a question: I already have the python and r knowledge along with calculus due to my engineering background so I wanted to ask, what is your opinion on these data science courses offered by training institutes (3-6 months) that claim to get you placed and such? Hey! Glad you are interested in data science and really trying to pursue it! I haven't got much experience with those courses/bootcamps, so can't give a first hand experience. Hi, I am also a physicist (finished my Ph.D. recently in theoretical physics) and will start a DS job soon. I resonate with you on physics not being like what I imagined during my school time. During my school days, I used to solve hard physics problems based on Newtonian mechanics but research is quite different from school or even college physics. Now I realize that what I liked was the problem-solving part of physics and not necessarily the physics itself. The problem solving part in college/real world is done within CS domain and not physics. I don't regret my PhD but i should have explored more during my UG. Nice video !

I think A level maths is sufficient to get an entry level role and understand most things in machines leaning, particularly if you studied statistics modules. So guys, im 41 years old and i gotta start earning 6 figures, so rather than moan about not having a degree and bla bla bla i signed up for university, im from the uk, and im doing a 3 year data science degree, i didn't even finish school, more a less college, my maths skills are shit, but ill tell you 1 thing, i want it, hence why im getting the degree to break down any unnecessary early obstacles. Its only costing me 20k, you'll make that back in under a year.

@egorhowell
@egorhowell 5 месяцев назад
I would say yes but really depends on your background. If you come from STEM (science, tech, engineering, maths) then it's an easier transition. It's also how much time you have to dedicate to learning. If you are learning full time then 6 months should be enough! Hope this helps :)

@egorhowell 5 месяцев назад
@@chikeziechukwuazi816 I would say its do-able! Try and lean into your financial background when applying for jobs. If you apply as a Data Scientist to financial firms you will have an advantage as you already know the domain very well. However, it's important to not go into it thinking it will take 6 months. The thing you guys need to understand, when you see these videos. You have to understand certain people have a certain level of intelligence when going into this field. You dont have that intelligence. You are better off going the college route.
@egorhowell

Hey, yes this is somewhat true. But hard work is always needed to get anywhere.
@widxchange
@widxchange 27 дней назад
I strongly disagree with that view. You don't have to have a "certain level" of intelligence to understand and work in the field. Anyone with common sense can learn it and do well. It's the same for coding. It all comes down to affinity and interest. Is it something you really like doing? That's the question.
@Desiparth
@Desiparth 26 дней назад
@@widxchange what I wrote was based off that click bait title . Not a matter if you can achieve it. 6 months ?!?!? No degree ? You seriously undermine what data science is. And to just say it’s common sense is just plain ignorant to the masses. And if it is common sense that’s the main point I was trying to make “certain level” of intelligence people that have to attain it. Don’t sell false hope. You ruin lives like that.
@widxchange
@widxchange 15 дней назад
@@Desiparth I can agree with that. The clickbait thumbnail is obviously misleading. You need time and dedication. And by common sense I mean it is not as out of the average joe's reach as people would like to think. It is not rocket science
