Are you going to start working on your plan to go full time today ? 🤗 Heads up! Your journey will be filled with ups and downs but I got you! Watch this video next to see what I do to survive the music industry 👉🏻 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EoLgAgLFYaE.html
You can absolutely do it! Have you started making your plan like I explained in the video? It'll be a big help ;) Welcome to the family as well, thank you!
i quit my job last august with less tha 1k in savings and rent was comong up. i sell beats full time now and have made over 65k already doing it. God is great, best decision ever
I took a 6 year hiatus (2015 - 2021) before returning to music. Prior to the 6 years, I recorded and mixed everything in my room (what most people are doing now...I need my credit lol) Jokes aside, keep hustling, and find a way to not give up. The beautiful part of this is, we are not bound to a record label. Work at your own pace guys. What makes my new return to music special is the death of mom. But also the challenge of paying for studio time 😆. In other words? I had to "jump off the porch" and get my butt in a studio to have other engineers cater to my vocals.
I was actually expecting a video explaining how to be a music producer lmaooo. Do you happen to have a video on that? Where to begin? What software to use? What to learn? Which instrument to learn? If I wanna create R&B I should probably ignore Rock and Country, that sort of thing.
Yeah I totally get that, had to do that for over 2 years, I talk about it in these 2 videos below: - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TrwMkUpqnYs.html - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EoLgAgLFYaE.html Hope it helps :)
you seem like a good girl but all i''ve learnt here is i should watch more videos or pay for some "digital course" and then i'll be able to make 3k a month.
“My one mistake was not starting earlier. “ that is great advice for a lot of us. You learn so much from the actual experience AFTER starting 😊. Thanks PLV for the awesome upload!
The big problem is (and you are stating this yourself in this video) that you could do this because of content creation on YT and sponsorships and so on...its not solely with music production ( like the title says). Dont get me wrong, if this works for you its awesome and I am happy for everyone doing this... But to make a living wage just out of music production, its a bit more than that. 😅 Nowadays, I feel that most "producers" are making more money with selling the dream, than actually living it themselves. If someone is not making it in this industry (because its 60hr a week of producing music to reach the top space) out of lack of skill or decided to drop out, because its to competitve or its burning them out creatively, they start a youtube channel about teaching or selling courses...
I'm just starting on music production career right now. I was a full time musician(drummer) in Philippines. Since I moved here in Canada, my music life ended. There's no band life for living here. Became a prep/cook in restaurant for 2.5 years. Now I'm doing housekeeping. But where does this end? I wasted 3 years not doing my passion. I feel rusty. I want to get back to music. It's what I love. I can't keep doing things that I don't like. Besides, music production was one of my dream when I was in high school. I wanted to make soundtracks for films and games. I have very small time to practice now that I have 3-month old baby and I'm just starting to learn music theory. I know this will be a very hard journey for me. I don't even know if I'm gonna make it. But I don't wanna stay on jobs that I don't like til I grow old. I'm planning to take online music production course at Point Blank school in LA this October. Any advice for me guys?
PRO TIP: Quit while you are ahead Get a career in trades or health care. There is great demand for that Be real. Do music for fun as a hobby There is simply way more music and music producers out there than there is demand for it
haha.. I might agree with Colin Russell here.. I've been doing music production for 20 + years, I'm currently working on 2 games at the moment and one of them made me realize that making custom music for people can sometimes be tedious AF, especially when the budget isn't huge which seems to be the case with most indie games (also quite hard to get these jobs btw). I also worked as a full time composer for an animation studio at one point and the director ended up being a bit of a sociopath.. a trait which seems common amongst these types. I have an 11 month year old baby and am now seriously considering just doubling down on my video production / editing / videography; something where there always seems to be work and pays a lot better, and maybe put a bit of music into my videos or just do like 1 excellent track every few months for my game music portfolio, as a way to scratch my music itch. If you love being on your own on your computer all the time, constantly using social media and using various platforms to "shmooze" with music industry types; usually with no financial outcome, then internet music producer freelancer could be the way; but I must say non of this is really conducive to good mental health. I attended Point Blank in London btw, the Music Production and Sound Engineering course was actually really good, so I can't knock that.
Only you can make a change. You need to change your mindset from denying the fact that you can’t change. Anyone can change. Just keep doing what you love and grow off it. It only takes a couple hours to make more what you make at your current job, while at a regular job you waste 8-12 hours of working under someone that’s not paying you that much. Work, work, and work. That’s all I gotta say. I used to have the same mindset as you when I was about to give up. But once I changed my mindset and believe in all of my work then everything started getting better than I expected. Now, i’m about to get a placement with Trippie Redd, and Young Dolphs artist album
It seems rather than having become a "fulltime music producer", you've actually become a "fulltime RU-vidr/Content creator". That's totally not the same, but people nowadays treat those words as if they were interchangeable. Just sayin'
Title says producer/youtuber and she is a producer….so you’re most definetly hating….people nowadays are upset with their own situation and feel better hating on others accomplishments. Just sayin’
@@xFaTaLx187x hes not hating. hes stating that becoming a youtuber is much different than working as a producer. and in her case, she can make money from producing likely *because* she is a youtuber, and people know of her services. most of the income you generate from music production in this self-working route comes from exposure and marketing, not from being a good producer. so the issue is, like with alot of youtubers, they fail to take into account the fact they have an audience. and the advice they give will not work for a good portion of people doing what they say- without also being a youtuber.
Thanks for the motivation! I’m working right now on living off royalties from my music and in the future I want to build a media production company to help independant artist get their music out there without the help of greedy labels.
So... a what 20 y old (?) girl that started making music 2 years ago and GOT LUCKY that it worked out now thinks she has the key to life^^ Nice try! You got lucky! Don`t be cocky!
Congrats on being able to quit your job to pursue music full-time. Unfortunately, this reality is only true to a small percentage of the community. Viewers and aspiring producers need to remember to stay somewhat grounded in reality. You pointed it out yourself that you noticed a trend that was pointing to the fact that you may have a unique product; that isn't true for most producers, and even if it is, it takes a lot of discipline and stubbornness to pierce through the noise -- pun intended. Keep it up! :)
To add to this: if you produce underground music in niche genres [for people with impeccable taste], don't expect to make much, if any, money at all off of your music. The markets in these genres are too small and there isn't enough buying to support full-time careers for more than the top 0.1%. Some (probably most) of the biggest names in my favorite underground genres still work day jobs. Now if you're going to make trendy music, like Hip-Hop or mainstream EDM, all you have to do is make equally as trendy sounding music (just watch lots of tutorials and you'll sound like everyone else, which is the goal really) and then have great marketing to stand out and build a fanbase.
So you've made most of your money through content creation, social media influencing and youtube ads. Not really a music producer is it. How much have you made in "music"?
Terrible way to approach music : you sound like an accountant First and foremost music is an art form, fans and audience needs to be earned with you body of work or a catalog of songs you have recorded / produced : you presented nothing and went straight to money : social media in not a stage : this is why musicians like you come and go and never leave a mark Cheers 🥂
PLV!! I had no idea you had quit your job already, that is so incredible, wow! I am so grateful to have met you on the start of your journey. Look at that, 2 years, and you’ve accomplished what most people dream of. 🎉🙌
It has been my dream for years to work from home as a musician. Now I'm 41 years old, have 3 kids and wife at home so I don't have time to dedicate. Don't put it off if your young and don't let fear ruin your dreams. Set goals to work toward your dreams, otherwise they will always just be dreams. Great advice on this video.
Don't give up on your own dreams dude! Even if you have to wait till the family goes to bed, take an hour a week to work on your music. At least it's a start!
😂 I feel you, bro, time versus money to live is a crash for us to pursue some things, I also have busy life now, but I know at some point I will be able To manage things towards it. I don't care even if I find this time when I am Grandma😂 I will make it before die just because is what I want in this life. 🎉
Hey there. I once met Tim from Evanescence, who was checking his phone constantly backstage as his kid back in California was sick. I asked about the right time to hunt relentlessly for success before making a family, and he told me that family actually can GIVE that oomph to strive for your goals and to make time even when you have none, because unlike many people being torn apart by the industry, you have a loving family to come home to. Just don’t do music for ego, man. Do it for sharing the power of what you’ve found in family. Keep the vision the priority over money and fame. That’ll be the key. Best of luck and much Love.
Your progress in a short amount of time is very inspiring and impressive! I have been composing and producing for years but been inconsistent so it’s not that great. I hope I can be more consistent and improve!
I really have to laugh when I hear about things like this. I've been playing since the early 80s, spend six years at one of the most famous conservatories in the world, have performed in the US, Europe, and Asia, etc. There is virtually no money to be made and this is why people come to RU-vid and build hype in order to get views because that's really the only thing that can bring in any money. The only valuable one-on-one consulting sessions would be those where you convince someone NOT to enter the music industry.
I knew someone through friends that did this exact same thing quit his job in pursuit of his dream, two years latter he's living in a homeless shelter. 4 Simple rules. Rule No 1 no matter how good you are or think you are if you don't have the funds to start with it aren't happening. Rule No 2 not everyone is going to win as for every 1 winner there's always gonna be 99 losers even thou some maybe better than you but didn't get the opportunity. Rule No 3 always have a back up plan, don't waste your whole life casing one goal as not all dreams come true, embrace disappointment that's life. Rule No 4 don't be envy or jealous of others who succeeded, move on.
thankyou for being realistic and saying the truth. i hate how alot of these youtuber advice videos portray the optimistic view of these things, and dont cover all of the substantial risk and how many will fail. they do it specifically because they know that will scare off most of the viewers. or they just fail to understand their unique advantage in the job market as a youtuber. the reality is more bleak. its about who you know and what opportunities you are fortuned with, not what you know or how much you work.
Dude that little timer you put at the bottom of your video that tells our poor attention span brains how much time is left on your video is genius. Also, your production quality is great!!! keep it up!
I study music at college and have 2 years left, I’m working atm on Saturday and Sunday and that’s 12 hrs a week, I’m currently saving for a Mac mini and all the equipment needed and then I’m going to start doing this aswell
i produced for like 3 months and then i created this channel i have analog music instruments expirience but it was still a lerning curve to it its completely different thx for the video
Loved the video and your energy! Though I will say I was expecting it to be more specific about the music producing journey of it all - I think the focus of this was more How I Became a Full Time Content Creator
Hey Melissa! Thank you! :) I totally get your point, when drafting the video it was hard to find a structure that "fits it all" as everyone would choose different ways to monetize their music so this is why I chose to make it more of a wider "plan", step by step idea, rather than being too specific as what I did might not be what someone else want to do. I also plan on making another video more specific on each source of income so maybe that one will be more helpful for you :)
Okay so I’ve been watching this video and you’re inspiring me. I actually went to uni for music but covid happened everything shut down and I lost alot of connections that way. I grabbed a 9-5 after covid hit just for the bills and I’m still there. I’m only 24 (turning 25 soon) and I feel like I need to get back out there. I’ve managed to save for about 3 years and have around 40k in savings. I wanna take the plunge but I know it’s risky. You’ve definitely inspired me to take that first step though!
a bit complicated but in the end you simply have to make music, and don't stop. you don't need to know everything at the beginning. just have fun. i am a electronic music producer for over 30 years and still learn every day.... it will never stop
Absolutely beautiful content. Very informative. Keep up the great work. I have learned something new, and I believe others could as well too from you. +1 Sub May you have a blessed rest of your day/night, thank you, and shalom. Till next time. (Video Response Time Stamp 5:41:) "That would interest me."
Look at my first RU-vid video. Yiiiish! Lol If you share income figures, only ever give ballpark figures. I dont think you should share the exact numbers online. I want to start recording some songs I've been noodling with for a while. The plan is to get back into music production, having previously done a little before whilst playing with a band. Ill probably use Ditto and RU-vid but I have no interest in music videos. Kind of have to do them though. Might just strap a camera to my car and go night drives and play the tunes over that. Thanks for your content. I enjoy it and your music is dope* ❤
Dig deeper folks. Videos Talking about music will do much better and reach many more people than your music. Look at this creator's videos, go all the way back. Which ones are getting views?
Thanks for this video! You have a new follower I study music production and have just been reading about marketing and want to start my own RU-vid channel about my journey to make a music album!
Ahh, the old "how to" content formula. Tried and true. Much more effective than actually doing the thing you're showing people. Don't believe me? Create a song and share it online. Then create a video talking about how to create music that reaches thousands. Which one do you think will get more views?
okay so all of this is very broad and you didnt actually go into detail of what you did to establish those income sources rather you just said your goal for each and that you reached it. you cant just make a fiverr and start making enough money on it. many of the income sources youre talking about require marketing and promo, people seeing you, for it to be profitable. thats it. for most people thats not going to work. i want the producers out there to understand she had a unique 'in' to generate revenue from music production, because she is a youtuber. she can and likely did leverage her fanbase and exposure on yourube and whatever other platforms to get people to see her services and products. thats a huge difference between a normal person trying to get that level of marketing and eyes on their services. you have a better shot working for a company or studio that needs producers/engineers. many RU-vidrs have this sort of paradox in their advice videos, not realizing their intrinsic advantage. they will give advice to people watching them saying 'look how all i did was this and i had a bunch of people buying my service/product/supporting me!'. they had that because of all the people watching. normal people wont have that so the advice wont apply. also, "you have to be the best at your job if you want it to work" is completely false. everyone knows it who you know not what you know thats far more important.
you ask 35 dollars for an ebook you wrote after only started 2 years ago yourself?? How would you have any credibility to write a whole course? Also your ebook is like the most boring Word-looking summary. I feel sorry for everyone who bought this garbage
Did you not know how to make music at all and you learned or did you know how to make music because I’m looking into it and I just bought a machine plus and I want to start making music but I’m afraid I won’t know how to make nothing at all ever just wondering because I’m worried and I hear the music in my head, but I can’t figure out how to go about putting it together and making something
Not even gonna watch this. I hate your title. Ya so easy.... Some people that are seriously talented and invested have wanted what you "say" you did and quit, and at such a young age. pleeeaaase! Some narratives never need to be told
1st thing to consider before you go fulltime : If you don't have parent's who will look after you until you make a living, DON'T do music fulltime.... Adults have RENT, BILLS and other things to pay...
90% of my videos are fully done and edited by me yes, just a few I outsourced when I needed more time to focus on other things :) This one was done by me!
Hey Maddy!!! Thank you so much for your comments I'm so happy to hear this feedback as as you guessed it, it takes a LOT of time and effort to make those videos haha :) This one especially took me a good 20 hours!
This reminds me of a statement I have heard about planting trees: The best time to plant a tree is 10 years ago. The next best time to plant a tree is today.
