Hello Tobi, I'm glad I stumbled upon your video. I'm currently working as an intern PM at a Telemedicine startup (Utogenx) in Nigeria. I took a training course for 6 weeks in November (at Nsonye, a community that seeks to bridge the gender tech-gap by teaching young women tech skills for free) and built a tech E-library as my Capstone project. I really love product management, but I don't see a lot of Nigerian PM content on here so it's really great to see this. I would love to collaborate with you on video later this year. Oh, and yeah, I have an Engineering background too, from Unilag. Thanks for putting this out there once again.
Hello Imole, hope this meets you well. How can I know more about the community you learnt your PM from. I am really interested. Can I reach out to via your socials?
Hi Tobi, thanks for this video. You however didn't give any specifics as to exactly "how" to start a career in PM. You used lots of "many platforms out there" and "many resources out there"... Lol. The specifics are absent. Please, what certification did you take first? What specific resources? What platforms? This will actually then be helpful information beyond the motivational part. Thank you and expectant.
Hi Tobi, Thank you for this video. I’m just transitioning into product management after being self employed as a fashion designer for the past 6+ years. I will be starting a PM program with Utiva come Saturday so I’m really excited for that. I have two questions if you don’t mind. 1. Lots of people talk about transitioning with prior skills and I think this only applies to people who are or have been in the corporate world. How would you advise to move forward on this? 2. You have rightly spoken when you said there are so many resources and honestly, I have found that causes information overload. How does one filter through this? How do you know what’s right and what’s incorrect? Also, you also spoke about building products with no code tools, I would love if you explored this on a later video. I think that would be a helpful resource for people like me who are just going in. Only if you have the time, of course. Finally, if you don’t mind, I would love to connect via email or linkedIn if you’re open to it. Thanks again for this video.
Me too! I’m also a fashion designer that wants to transition. I’m not yet sure of the field I’m transitioning to tho, either product or project planning, I’m still doing my research and every suggestions, information will be greatly appreciated.❤️
I’m on this thread😊, also a fashion designer transitioning into UX design, currently taking a course with Utiva also. We could connect if you guys don’t mind. Would be nice to have like minds in this similar journey!
Hey Ladies! I am also a transitioning fashion designer! It's so lovely seeing you all in the comments on the same journey😊 I would love to connect with you all on linkedIn also!
I am glad I found your channel. I haven't found Aa lot of Nigeria content on this though. Thanks for sharing your story. I have been trying to learn skills based on my strength
Hello Tobi, thank you so much for this video Please can you help recommend courses I can take or the ones you took that was really helpful and helped you move faster , resources would also be really appreciated
Great tips! I'm transitioning into Business Analysis as well and these are great tips. The fact that I had started building my brand like a business has been so helpful. I love the fact that you were very intentional about your transition, so it made easy on you. Well done🙌
Hi Tobi, can someone who has no engineering background go into PM with ease? I have an advertising background though. I work as a brand communication strategist?
Yes! I don't have the typical engineering background. Also, advertising is quite similar to marketing and a lot of marketing folks transition into product management.
Hi Tobi, Thank you so much for sharing, this is actually amazing. In your video you mentioned a PM program you took can you share some of those program links. I have taken a couple of PM courses and to be honest I haven't found my footing Thanks
😮 I didn't realise you changed your RU-vid name no wonder I haven't been seeing your videos lately. Just a search on Product Management and your video popped. Woow really missed your content Tobi!
Good Morning, I just got registered in Tech. And fortunately I got selected in first batch this year which I happened to study in product management. My question where can I start from here or what's am I expecting?
Hi! You said you got to actually manage a product before you went for roles. What did you do and could you do a video on this and break it all down for us?? 😊❤
Hello Tobi I just stumbled on your video, and am glad I watched. I am transitioning into product management, reason i came to RU-vid to gain knowledge in order to move forward. I am a business woman but lately i crave for a career, be somewhere i can gain experience, learn, grow and impact. With intellectuals. My research led me to PM Now am developing cold feet as i have no experience i have checked out the PM course on coursera. However, I would like to hear from an experienced as you, and my questions goes like this : Can I go into PM with little or no experience? I studied History and international relation so PM is different from what I studied. Also, can i get a few words of advice from you on how to start and figure this out? Thank you.
Hi, it wasn’t really for “certification” purposes. There’s no certification for product management and you don’t require one to become a PM. I took it to learn about product management and the fundamentals, so you can take any course on udemy, coursera, Linkedin learning, etc.
I just stumble on your channel. I was wondering if you could be my mentor. If I could even get your email so we could communicate time to time will appreciate you.
Hi Tobi, I just made a decision on transitioning into product management and I have been looking for a place to learn and gain knowledge about it which has made me searched for videos about it on RU-vid and I am glad I stumbled upon your video, so I would need your assistance if there is any way you can help me out with this decision of mine. Thank you.
Wow this was a nice watch 😊. I could relate alot… to what you spoke about. I think I am a future product manager but not now. Maybe I still have 2 more years to go before I move into the PM career path
Hi, there’s no body to “certify” a product manager. You don’t require a certificate to become a PM. I only took the course to learn about product management and the fundamentals, so you can take any course on udemy, coursera, Linkedin learning, etc.
Hi Tobi, a friend of mine keeps telling me this and I thought he was just saying. I have taken Project Management foundation course on linked on and other platforms. I think I was too interested about the certifications I could get and often feel I am still not good enough. I get scared of apply for jobs cos I don't know where to start from.
Hello Tobi, I’m glad to have stumbled on your Video. Good work you do out here. ❤ My question is, do you recommend a Career Coach for one who would be leaving his home country for Canada and is confused on what Career Pathway to take?
Hey! I would say it depends. Personally, I would research various options and reach out to people in that career to learn more about what they do daily, the skills needed and much more. They will be the source of truth for you compared to a career coach who may not have experience in various fields. If you see that you're not making progress, you can get a career coach. You can do this first though, depending on your timeline and if you want to do less work by yourself upfront.
Hmmm. No Linkedin Profile. You had so much Mathematics Background and had studied at least Marlih Coding BUT your background core competencies was not developed or replicated. Aero Engineering could lead to MRO and Airframes Engine Certification. Why start something and not follow the runway to take off after V1. It is a shame. Product Management... Yulk My Sales Man is doing it with no qualifications.
You're part of the major issues we have never impose ur choices to someone else. And besides she said she loved her fjob and definitely PM gives her better chances and growth. Rest with ur opinions and less limit to your sales man, have regards for humans.
