Why I Moved from Being a Tattoo Artist to a Digital Artist | My Journey
Welcome to my story time video where I share my personal journey from being a tattoo artist to becoming a digital artist. In this video, I dive into the reasons why I transitioned from the world of tattooing to the realm of digital art, highlighting the experiences and challenges that led me to this decision.
My Journey to Becoming a Tattoo Artist
As a self-taught tattoo artist, my journey began with a deep passion for art and creativity. I purchased numerous online courses to hone my skills and spent countless hours practicing on fruit, fake skin, and my friends. My dedication paid off when I started posting my tattoo pieces online. Almost immediately, people wanted to book appointments with me. With minimal advertising and mostly through word-of-mouth, my tattoo business grew rapidly. I was primarily focused on dainty fine line tattoos, which attracted a lot of interest and kept me very busy.
The Burnout and Realization
Despite the success, I realized I wasn't creating for myself anymore. The constant demand for custom tattoos meant I was always making art for others, which, although fun, took a toll on my creativity. My unique style was being overshadowed by the need to meet client requests. Balancing a 9-5 job with tattooing two clients every evening left me burnt out. Social activities and personal time took a backseat as I sacrificed my evenings and weekends for tattooing. The realization hit me that my income was directly tied to the number of clients I could physically see in a day. This lifestyle was not sustainable for me in the long run, as it required constant physical presence and energy.
Transition to Digital Art
Switching to digital art opened up a world of possibilities. As a digital artist, I discovered the flexibility and freedom I had been craving. There is less pressure because, unlike tattooing, digital art allows for mistakes and revisions. Now, I get to create art for myself and explore various styles and techniques without the constraints of client demands. Additionally, there are numerous ways to monetize digital art, from commissions and prints to online courses and tutorials. Drawing, which was my favorite part of the tattooing process, became the main focus of my work. I still have the option to create art for others if I choose to, but on my own terms. The flexibility of being a digital artist has significantly improved my lifestyle, allowing me to balance my creative work with personal time.
