I’m coming from a similar place you were, not really having any triathlon training before but relatively fit all around. Obviously you were happy to finish and do the race but it seemed as if you were rather miserable during it. My question is, do you think this was due to lack of training time and only having 6 months? I would like to do my Ironman in probably 1-1.5 years from now and wondering if you think the larger amount of time to prepare would make it a better experience. No how you felt, you ARE an Ironman, congratulations man and great video!

I wouldn't necessarily say I was miserable the whole race, there were a lot of walls of course and pretty much the whole marathon sucked but there were good times when I was "celebrating" my fitness and how far I've come in such a short time. I feel like full Ironman can be a pretty unpleasent race in general, whether you're well trained or not, but I'm sure that if I trained for a year it would be much less taxing on my body and mind. So I think that if you take 1-1.5 year of consistent training you'll definitely be not only ready to finish but ready to finish feeling stronger than I did. Good luck in your training!

Thank you. Can you answer 2 questions for me? What is the ultimate time to finish Ironman Calella. Is it allowed to change the shirt during the 42 km run? Thank you

hi there, 1. for Ironman Calella you have to finish within 16 hours, at least that has been the case for the past few years 2. i think you can change t-shirts as long as you take the spare one with you after T2. it’s against the rules to take something from non-participants, so if you wanted to change into the t-shirt that your family member will give you on course then that’s a no no

Hi . I've a question please. So, I've a olympic distance triathlon June 1st. So, 3 weeks. The issue is, my 1500m in the pool is constantly around 48- 50 mins. The cutoff is 55 mins on the day. I'm doing the distance constantly under the time limit, while taking loads of breaks (to catch my breath) I'm not swim fit. I'm still worried about the open water swim (it's a river) even tho I'm getting under the cutoff time by 5 mins in thr pool and taking an many breaks. A part of me is confident, the other is telling me I won't make the cutoff. The first side of me is I'm telling myself I'll go a bit faster on the day of fear of not making the cutoff time, due to adrenaline Any advice?? Getting nervous for it now! Thanks for any help/advice you could give

Hi. Are wetsuits allowed for your event? Wetsuits add buoyancy and help you swim faster, even if your technique is poor. Adrenaline should also help you on the day of the race. If I were you I would probably slow down and focus on the technique for the next two weeks. When you’re frantically trying to make it to 1500 meters your technique usually suffers and therefore you need to put more energy into your stroke which results in you being more and more tired. Maybe try to slow down, focus on a nice stroke and breathing. At least that’s what helped me a lot. You could maybe consider one or two classes with a swimming coach, so that he/she could point out some of your obvious mistakes that you could improve fast. On the race day I would also advise to try to keep your mind calm and not to rush into the water too hard, with all the adrenaline and people swimming around you it can be overwhelming and you might want to go all out right from the beginning but I think it’s important to start easy so that you can settle into your stroke and breathing. So to sum up, work on your technique, try to relax more in the water so that your body doesn’t use so much energy and use wetsuit if you can for your event. Fingers crossed you make it, good luck 🤞

How was your nutrition during the race?
@itsyaun
@itsyaun 6 месяцев назад
Pretty good overall. I was aiming to consume one energy gel every 25-30 minutes and to drink 1l of fluids every hour. This tactic worked well until the second half of the marathon, my body was so done by that point that I started to eat and drink anything I could choke down

The unanswered question is was it worth it?

Wouldn’t recommend others to approach it the way I did, with only 6 months of training, but for me yes, 100% worth the satisfaction.
