The last year or so I’ve gone from installs to more and more breakdowns. I’m not finding it too bad apart from my hands are often in the way as they are quite big, there’s always a tool that I could do with that helps better but you can’t have them all. Practice has improved my confidence as there was a time I used to stare blankly at them for too long 🤣

Really enjoy your videos. My mothers combo boiler (valiant eco) on four different occasions has shown a F75 code and is only one year old. I contacted the installers and told them i,ve had to reset it on the four occasions and given them about the fault code. They sent a young engineer who just showed my elderly mother (92) how to reset it even though I had already reset it and it was working fine. My question is i know the fault and the cure but this engineer took the easy option, in and out in fifteen minutes. I shall however be calling the heating company and educate them on a lousy engineer.

I have been going out with my old man who was a boiler tech on BG mainly faulting and a bit of installs for 40 yrs, out on his own for the last 5. It’s bloody handy having him on the phone when I’m scratching my head at faults plus some of the little tricks too priceless. He pisses himself when I get stuff wrong. I had a boiler where I isolated the mains to it but only at the boiler while removed plate heat exchanger not knowing an upstairs shower had a fucked valve with mains cold back feeding only got a bit wet🤯. Lesson learned. Heating geek is decent keep up the vlogs mate.

@Ζαφειρης-Μπαξεβανης
1st Vaillant, 2nd Baxi, 3rd Bosch - Buderus Group, 4th Ariston, 5th Sime and then all the others ,we don't have some models and vice versa. All this after personal experience and only for natural gas. For oil burners and boilers is a completely different story. But I see that in the UK you have few oil machines. Learning on own mistakes or nowadays you go on RU-vid and check other guys unfortunate mistakes and burst water all over,but when you learn by yourself that stays with you always and you will never forget that.All guys and girls in every business learn by themselves and by taking chances which sometimes you make money,most likely you come to 0 or if you are really unlucky you lose,but that is process which those who dare,win.

Fair play for going at that Alpha boiler without doing one before and I'm glad it worked out well in the end mate. Those downfiring aluminium heat exchangers are not long lasting in my opinion so you will probably be back again in 5 years if the waters poor. How old was that Hex ? A good manufacturer like Viessmann or Intergas will give you 10 years plus warranty on the hex.
@HeatingGeek

The heat x wasn't blocked that I could see. It worked though. :-)
@makavellithedon5396
@makavellithedon5396 4 года назад
@@HeatingGeek If it wasn't blocked, why did you change it ? There is a reason you haven't done many of them, because they are a proper heap of dirt and it would have made more long term economical sense to fit a boiler with a serial feed stainless Heat exchanger, no offense.

My daughter has this same boiler and we just can’t seem to get the up stairs radiators to heat up. Down stairs is Working ok. I have tried to switch on manually but no look. I can hear it clicking, but not engaging. It’s a Alpha boiler.

I guess it's fixed now. I bet it wasn't a boiler issue. Maybe air

That reminds me of the fateful night a friend called me around midnight and asked me if I could come over and disconnect her dishwasher as the movers were due at 8 AM the next morning and she couldn't get the hose disconnected. I'd just gotten home from a dance so I grabbed a bite and then walked to her place, getting there around 12:30 I guess. The connection was in a 40 cm wide cupboard, 60 cm deep, so getting my shoulders in there was quite tricky. The shutoff valve looked to be broken, only a square brass shaft sticking out of the valve body so I did ask her: "You're absolutely sure you've closed the valve, aren't you?" and she confirmed she was. On the valve there was some kind of quick-release connector I'd never seen before (and haven't seen since) but I couldn't get that to budge either so I started unscrewing it from the actual valve. Everything was fine until I got to the very last bit of thread when I was met with a torrent of cold water (water pressure is somewhere above 4 bar round here) and couldn't get the bloody thing back on! I screamed for some buckets and the next few minutes were a mad dash of me filling up buckets in record time and her scrambling through the hall to the loo to empty them. I can't remember why we couldn't just dump the water into the kitchen sink, possibly the trap was off or something like that. Once I heard a mighty bang because she'd slipped on the wet floor, thankfully only on the return trip, not with a full bucket. After several rounds of this I had the brilliant idea to ask her about the main stopcock. She told me she had no idea if there even was one but she'd have a look in the loo. Less than half a minute later, the torrent slowed down to a trickle and stopped. We then went on to mop up all the spilled water, pull out the sink unit, only to find soggy carpet underneath as the genius who'd installed the laminate hadn't bothered to pull out the cabinets to remove the carpet. While doing that we were suddenly plunged into darkness because some of the water had found its way into a power strip on the floor and tripped the RCD. In the end I went home around 2 AM wearing borrowed socks because my own were completely soaked. What a fun night! The other major learning curve wasn't strictly my own fault. Me and a mate were fitting a SaniFlo and associated pipework in his mom's office because she wanted a sink in a room with no plumbing. He did most of the work and then went on to test it by pouring a mixture of iced tea (that had gone off and bits of green mould floating around) and tap water down into the SaniFlo using a makeshift funnel. He poured and poured and then the pump kicked in - causing the pressure side pipe to come of and spray everything 2 m up the wall with that foul mixture! I was on the other side of the room and was spared but he was completely drenched! At first he cursed a bit but then we had quite a laugh! I'm glad the whole setup has long been removed as it didn't exactly look like it'd been done by a qualified installer... we'd even used regular push-fit drain pipe for the pressure side! Amazing it didn't leak! I haven't touched any plumbing since, except for one emergency repair where an old lead pipe spliced to a newer copper supply started to lead and I quickly soldered a cap onto the end of the copper to prevent a flood. My actual background is electrics. Not that I never screw up in that field but I haven't had any spectacular side effects so far.

I have had saniflow experiences. I don't talk about them. One involved using bricks as stepping stones so I didn't have to stand in excrement. I vomited on the floor on that job. No one saw (no one would come into the basement ) in the end I used bin bags to cover my boots and just got on with it. :-) Grim. I don't do plumbing anymore.

That’s a lovely purple jumper!!. Being serious though top work as usual. As my old school journey man said.... you learn the most buy fuc##ng yourself rather than taught by me. Been there and done it with alphas, normally they leak when the water goes back on, not when your stripping them 🤣🤣.
