I think your comment about being a native English speaker that can explain things in a different way is really helpful.

Babies don't tell their first words until at least 18 months and last many years to get fluent. Then, they need to add 2 yesrs to study how to read and write and still study grammar rules and verbs conjugations, learning tenses during the primary school, and having a review on the high school. That was my process as a Spanish native speaker living in total immersion. Spanish has 50 different verbal forms.

I agree 100%, do NOT Focus too much on grammar when learning a language, especially at the beginning of your journey. 40 years ago when I was a young soldier in Germany (before the Internet for all you young folks) I also became fluent in German well within a year and I know for a fact if I would've started to study German grammar at the beginning, I for sure would've quit after a few weeks. To this day I am still very fluent in German and 4-5 years ago I started learning Spanish and used the same method, however I do admit Spanish was much more tougher for me. Although I would consider myself high intermediate in Spanish presently, for whatever reason even though I speak Spanish every day with my Colombian wife I still feel more comfortable in German. Mucha suerte a todos!

I am a white American who took a couple years of Spanish in high school. A decade later I found myself traveling Spain for a couple months, desperately trying to remember my classes from years ago. I've decided it's TIME to fully understand this culture I love so much! So excited to get started with you!

Speaking in "strings" is how I do it. 100 phrases gets you to be reasonably fluent in another language.😮 Internalize them as a toddler might.

@@michaelharperspanish I am just like you! Kinda… I am 70 years old and in a couple of months I will turn 71; it’s strange how the years creep up on a person. Well, you make good sense. Starting as a younger person would have been so much better for me but I started in my mid 40’s and didn’t do too much right right away. If somehow I can turn back the clock and do a few things better now that will be great. I passed all the exams and knew the conjugations for the tests but forgot them and never went back to any of them so looking at a present tense chart seems strange. I need to force myself to do them all over again and not let any slip away. I may have to review everyday forever now! My advise is don’t get old and try to play catchup with learning anything. Be a baby as long as you can and learn all you can before age gets the better of you! ❤

Yeah. Okay. I took a little longer than «under a year» (26 months) because I wanted three things most learners don’t care about: 20,000 non-cognate vocabulary arranged in full context with an intensity register and formality register of verbs, something English doesn’t possess. Also, I want to speak with a Spaniard accent. That was a bitch, trust me. And finally, I wanted to be able to read ANY book on the shelves in Spanish today. I think I’d call that, C1 level so, that took longer but, yes...a person CAN follow your method and perhaps achieve B1 in a year, definitely. You have a solid, strong, sincere product, better than anything automated online. My actual goal is NATIVE speaker level but, I think that’s going to take 5 more years. Using all five senses in the imagination is good advice. Personally, I think honesty like you offer is best because, someone believing they are «fluent» and knowing they can't read any book with a 1000 word vocabulary or they sound like they’re speaking Spanish in English, which I personally HATE. You have to give people what they want and people have to be realistic. The 10,000-hour rule applies to Spanish. I wish you well Mr. Michael Harper Spanish teacher guy. Love your insight, enthusiasm and approach.

This method takes for years.There is an audio book called spanish verb drill.If you are a beginner watching film is frustrating Going to store and asking how much an apple is ,doesn't make you fluent.I learned 4 languages ,,and always learned it only from native speakers.

because some people need subtitles, you’re not the only person watching this video…. like- why are you complaining because he’s making his content more accesible??? there are hard of hearing and deaf people that watch youtube videos, also some people understand content better with subtitles. it’s not that deep.
@mikekay6789

Subtitles can be added at ANY time, by the watcher, using youtube. Or is that something you're not aware of? Ever notice that little CC button. You don't need to add them to your videos. They already are available. And for those of us who are not disabled, its distracting.

@@mikekay6789 sometimes subtitles don’t work or in some videos they’re not available. It is a great thing for some people that r learning English because we pause the video when we see a word that we’re not familiar with.
