i see i'm not the only one getting back into modeling after a long hiatus. but mine was only 25 years, some of you have been away awhile! i'm looking around youtube for inspiration, and to re-learn some of the old skills i learned from modeling magazines and car shows as a kid. thanks for the tutorial! can't wait to get back to the smell of cement!

Wow! Thank you for a brilliant tutorial...The magnet idea is awesome. I'm an old guy now,I quit building model cars when I was a teenager (1974 or so). I've recently taken it back up. I'm realizing that I still possess most of the skill I had when I was a kid and am getting better fast! The only bummer is the lack of sight that I once had...I hope to create model cars with the level of detail that you put into yours. Thanks again.

I'm obviously late to the party but that's one awesome tutorial. I've wondered about making door jambs for a long time, now I'm better prepared to have a go at it. I just created a playlist for modeling tips and this video is on that playlist

Nice video. I can't not mention the Charger you're doing this to is the one from the Dukes of Hazzard where they climb into the car through the window because the doors are welded shut 🤣🤣

Very nice tutorial. I'm just getting back into model building after a 45 yr vacation. I needed info on doing the doors and you just made it a whole lot easier. Keep up the good work, I'll be back Thanks

That is a great technique. I have never cut my doors yet on any of my cars, but this is certainly a great idea. I am going to try this on my next build and post the results. So far all my builds are just pretty box stock.

I never, in a million years, would have thought to put small magnets in the doors to keep them closed!

Cool vid. I use a contour gauge to get my curves right. Eliminates a lot of trial and error. Or you can use a bit of solder, it will hold its shape, then you can transfer the curve to the sheet styrene.
@SuperCooper41
@SuperCooper41 10 лет назад
I need to find a small contour gage somewhere. It would save alot of time. Never thought of the solder. I will give that a try tonight. Thanks

Some toothpick spacers will help with the door creep while setting the doors with the magnets. Its keeps the jams even while the glue sets.

Oct. 25, 2019----Thanks for the how to video, but not what I'm looking for. Getting back into modeling, but going for 1/35th scale zombie/apocalypse dioramas. Since there aren't many plastic kits in this scale, been buying 1/32nd & 1/36th scale diecast vehicles and believe me, they need work to make them more realistic. As to realistic hinges, want to get into 3D printing & creating different things like phone booths, etc. I've seen more than one video where something's been printed, with the parts actually moving, without having to assemble anything. So once I learn how to draft/make parts on my pc, then print 3D actual (more or less) scale hinges just like on the real vehicles. Unfortunately, it seems few car modelers have videos about 3D printing on RU-vid.

Hi Darren .Thanks for your tutorial. I was wondering if you only used 1 magnet and a small piece of tin ,would that be sufficient to close the door with less pullingof the door ?

What do you use to cut doors open with? Ive seen drimal! Thread! Fishing line! An hobby knife? Also wonder if you can glue door panel! Let it set up an fill door with foam! The expanding kind
@SuperCooper41

I use the back edge of a number 11 exacto hobby knife blade. Takes a while but seems to give me more control over what and how I want things cut.

most hobby stores that deal heavily in all manner of styrene kits and building supplies probably have these rare earth magnets, in assorted sizes. My local haunt is 'SECTION 8 HOBBIES' here at 2243 Seneca st. , Buffalo N.Y. 14210 ...... www. section8hobbies.com ..... ck them out

Awesome work your video is great info for the modeling community. I wish that I had found this video before I did my model escort mk1 it would have made it easier to do, but it still turned out alright , go to my channel and check out my Belkits Ford Escort MK1 model that I hinged the doors and trunk on.
