High-resolution lunar astrophotography gets very difficult when you try to shoot a mosaic/panorama. Without automation, you're guaranteed to get lost on the Moon's surface. This video shows how I use my C9.25 and ZWO ASI183mm to capture a moon mosaic insanely zoomed in!
Here is the gear used for this image:
Telescope: bit.ly/3CjtW24
Camera: bit.ly/3KmKgBY
Mount: bit.ly/3sczCHG
Barlow: bit.ly/3CggBY4
These are affiliate links btw, they help make this content possible!

Hello. Could you please explain about the mirror locks? I am looking into option of having my 8HD automated, but the Mirror locks are giving me a big headscratch. I even look into option of having linear focuser installed instead... How did you sort out automation of your focus?

Holy cow dude!! That’s amazing!! I’m just getting into astrophotography and can’t wait to get my setup going. Do you or anyone in comments have pointers /tips on first night shoots? Thanks.
@erikguthleben1442
@erikguthleben1442 Год назад
Do not discourage you if everything is not working on the firsts nights. It's a learning curve, start easy with short focal lenght if possible and make your guiding good. This is the most important to not loose time on the nights. You can learn most of the rest by day ;)

The barlows don't cut sharpness making the pano grid unnecessarily numerous? In other words, shoot with less magnification for less grid cells for the same result?

Hey I really enjoyed your video. I just noticed though that the moon was drifting during your capture, was it because the tracking rate of your mount was set to sideral instead of lunar?
@Cornerstone_Creative
@Cornerstone_Creative 2 года назад
Correct, but with MPM, the software can only set the mount to sidereal due to software limitations
@astrofalls
@astrofalls 2 года назад
It’s because of the drift compensation acting up, hasn’t done that before usually. And I think the mount does go to lunar tracking

I don't have any experience with astrophotography, so excuse the stupid question: is the "waviness" of the image caused by the atmosphere? Or is it micro shocks like wind, ground shaking, etc. that are visible due to the extreme focal length?
@theenergeticturtle9489
@theenergeticturtle9489 Год назад
Could be a number of things but yes focal length magnifies any vibrations and the atmosphere creates waves kinda like on a super hot day on a long stretch of road how it looks wobbly and wavy in the distance pretty crazy how much affects images with astrophotography

when you hit the physical limit of the mount and you'll need to reset

If he bought it new about 4400 US dollars. You can see the link to the various prices of all of his equipment under his description. I suspect the whole rig was around 10,000 US dollars.

You should see the photo of the moon I took on my Samsung S22 Ultra. The zoom on that phone is insane. I can see a lot of the same distinct marks on the moon as you have.

But is it optical Zoom? If not, then it's not that useful, is it? Optics are diffraction limited anyways.

You are not photographing anything. With all the post-processing you are doing, you are effectively photoshopping your images. Not at all realistic. Total fabrication.

I get what you’re saying... if you have a preconception as to how you think the moon should look, you’re going to manipulate whatever imagery you have to curate that outcome.

Either have Rich parents or get a couple of jobs and start saving your money because this is very expensive what you see here.
@bobjor3
@bobjor3 2 года назад
While Astrodad is right, you can spend insane amounts of money, things like shooting the moon can be done for next to nothing. An old mirrorless like the EOS M can be obtained for about $150 and a lens that does the trick can be found for $100-$300 depending on age, desired focal length and "speed". Add a cheap tripod and you're good to go with the moon or our incredible Milky Way core. As another option, an old Dobsonian scope could also be picked up for a few hundred dollars and you can even shoot through the eyepiece with any newer cell phone with pretty satisfying results. Just add gear as your interests and skills grow. :)
