How I care for my Dendrobium lindleyi (syn. aggregatum)

El sustrato es corteza de pino y roca esponjosa. La cesta es de madera maciza pero no sé de qué tipo.

groete aan suid afrika! I would stop watering and fertilizing completely. This being said, I know people who don't stop watering it completely and it still blooms but I don't recommend regular watering this time of the year. If you had 5 growths, that is excellent for a new plant and a new grower!!! It seems like you have a green thumb for orchids :))) Congrats!

Do you stop watering them for 3-4 months? That is the likely issue or may be a bit more light in the winter when kept dry??

@@orchidhouse I’m in the Caribbean I ha them under a tree so they got the morning sun. rain ☔️ water they are beautiful a good condition So they don’t like much water So muchas gracias 🙏

Thank you! I stop watering from December until the flowers open which is usually March or April!!! So it stays totally dry for up to 4 months.... Greetings to Jakarta :)

I have a second one which is also just started to bud. The blooming season is usually March to April, so nothing to worry about :))

They are supposed to benefit (need?) from colder nights to bloom but mine has bloomed, even on years when nights never went below 50 F.... I do not mist it at all but they may get sprayed during showers. I just ignore them for 3/4 months. I know it sounds long but it works for me. Good luck and ALoha!@@zzzjjj33

Congratulations!!! You should off on watering until the flowers open up.

Mix of bark, charcoal and sponge rock. I do regret the wood pot as it is too tight for the plant and it is tough to water it now because the bulbs are so tightly packed that the water doe snot get trough mush.... It looks great but is becoming a challenge.

Bonjour Pierrot. Il est très possible que cela soit l'origine du problème encore que je connais certaines personnes qui arrosent (un peu) leur D. aggregatum en hiver et elles fleurissent. Je ne sais pas s'il pleut beaucoup ou juste un peu en Algarve en hiver? Perso, je ne les arrose PAS DU TOUT de décembre jusqu'au moment ou les boutons s'ouvrent (mars/avril). Elles fleurissent chaque année. Je recommande d'essayer cette technique l'hiver prochain. Il y a encore deux autres explications possibles: un manque de lumière ou un différentiel trop faible de températures entre jour et nuit en Algarve en hiver??? Dans ce dernier cas, la situation serait irrémédiable.

Merci de votre réponse ! Je vais appliquer la méthode de 3 mois au sec de décembre jusqu'à fin mars à l'aggregatum mais aussi au pierardii et anosmum qui ne fleurissent pas non plus. Il y a une grande différence de température entre le jour et la nuit en hiver, et je vais les disposer dans un endroit abrité ou elles ne recevront pas de pluie mais auront beaucoup de lumière et l'humidité de l'air (on est au bord de l'océan et c'est plutôt humide en hiver). Si ca vous dit d'aller jeter un coup d'oeil, j'ai une chaine youtube : orchidées de pierrot :)

@@orchideesdepierrot4348 Pour anosmum, c'est une certitude: il faut plein d'eau en période de croissance mais sécheresse complete de décembre à avril. Idéalement, il faut attendre de nouvelles pousses alors que la plante est en fleur pour redémarrer l'irrigation. Votre plan de les mettre abritèe de la pluie mais en pleine lumière est parfait! J'ai jeté un coup d'oeil à votre chaine. Jolies fleurs. Vous avez une large variété d'orchidées je vois!

Grand Cayman in indeed blessed with warm weather year round but some years the temps in Fort Lauderdale never go below 50 F (or 10 C) and it still blooms..... What is the lowest temp you may have at night on Grand cayman???

@@orchidhouse the lowest is 68 and only for 2-3 days . Normally in winter we have 75 -78 at night ……. Can’t flower many Dendrobiums like nobile types

But then Spatulata types do very well all year round outside

@@alexandragc6817 They sure will. They are VERY cold sensitive. So your climate is heaven to them!

That is one of the most popular Dendrobium orchids and is readily available. Check your local orchid vendors or go online. They are often sold under Den. aggregatum rather than Den. lindleyi which is the currently accepted name.
