How I care for my Vanda tessellata 'Blue Lip'

Vanda tessellata has a very wide distribution in tropical Asia and many different color hues. It blooms several times a year and has an amazing strong musky fragrance. Hybrids with tessellata in their background tend to bloom non stop. It gets standard Vanda care: high light, no medium/exposed roots but daily waterings and good fertilization.

I love the flowers on the vandas, but I recently gave all my large ones away as I can't take care of the them anymore. I kept my miniatures (so far. Lol) The big ones were getting too much for me along with all my other orchids. Being disabled is hard enough to care for the others much less fore vandas take extra care with the watering. Living on the east coast and maybe 3 to 4 hours from you, I still had to protect them in the winter months. Take care 😊👍

I can totally understand the burden if you are disabled....they need a lot of water and where you live, winter nights are often too cold for Vandas!

Hello Speedy. Now that was a quick video. Your vanda is more than Pretty. It is a very attractive handsome one. Three spikes, now that's a champ. How often do you fertilize? Next topic, what is the soft feathery orchid in the basket behind the vanda. Ooooooo......you must give her some stage time too.

I fertilize it "weakly, weekly" but I never skip. Vandas are heavy feeders typically. 2nd question: That is my Dendrobium Lowana Nioka. It has been blooming non stop since... December...2016! At times it has just one or two spikes but every year it has a huge bloom spurt. This is it now (typically March/April,,,, it is late this year). It made a cameo in the very first video I made on Antelope Dendrobiums. I guess I should give it a full video too.

Thank you for the video , very enjoyable ! I spied in the background an amazing orchid in a large wooden basket . It is white and yellow , possibly a Dendrobium ? It looks magnificent !!!

Thank you! Dendrobium Lowana Nioka. It has been blooming non stop since Dec 2016!!! Most of the year, it has a few spikes but once a year it is exploding....like right now.

Thank you Garnet! I spray it until all the roots turn green and look really wet. I usually do it for 20-30 seconds and then come back shortly after for another 20-30 sec spraying.

Yikes! The roots of a few of my vandas and phals are deformed, with roots that have a dozen tips and others that have fat split tips - it’s creepy. I think the culprit might be super-thrive. What do you think may be the cause? Love your fairy -like vanda 🧚

It`s not possible to say without seeing a picture but many roots is much better than no or few roots LOL. Personally; I only use super thrive for struggling orchids.
