I’ve been thinking about getting the copper IUD myself, but I’m scared of the pain! Also, yeah, if I see one more story about how someone was on the pill AND used a condom and got pregnant, I’m going to lose it! When are they going to put out hormonal birth control for men? 😅
@Katrinberndt
@Katrinberndt 5 лет назад
Haha honesty even if they put out hormonal birth control for men I would never feel comfortable relying on it since I’m the one who would have to go through an abortion. I’m sure my partner would be careful, but that doesn’t change the facts. I never ever want to be put in the position of needing an abortion due to my partner’s mistake. I’d rather rely on myself.

I have a copper IUD and my insertion felt like a normal period cramp. I took the recommended pain medication before I showed up to the appointment and I didnt experience any of what Katrin experienced in terms of nausea or lightheadedness. I sat up afterwards and felt fine, just slightly crampy. I’d recommend going to see your gynecologist or midwife and ask them about any concerns you have. I’m personally SO HAPPY to have my copper IUD.

I'm so glad you talked about you experience with having the IUD put in. I had the same experience. It felt like a massive cramp and maybe a small shock. I had one placed in first but flinched so it had to be taken out otherwise it wouldn't have protected me. Immediately ofter it was taken out I had another one replaced in, but fortunately it didn't hurt as much because I knew what kind of pain to expect and was prepared for it. Can't recomend it enough, although the acne is a huge pain in the a**! 😔

Try to cut out dairy.. acne definitely can be hormonal but some foods can cause acne as an acute intolerance. We are adults not meant to digest newborn baby food.. which milk is. I love milk... But I cut down on it when I'm close to my period... I already get acne on my face and back. Bleh.. but I can't quit milk! >

I’ve heard something about the brain making you forget the pain of birth so it doesn’t hinder you from having more children. My mom said that it happened to her with both my sister and I. I don’t want kids now but I do later on in life, so I kinda hope the forgetfulness of the pain is true.
@MA-zg2pz

Well if it is any consolation you can get an epidural during birth and many other options to stop the pain. I guess the IUD there are no pain relieving options?
@lockenclaudidieerste5397
@lockenclaudidieerste5397 4 года назад
In fact, it is a hormon, I think ociticin that has the effect oft "forgetting". It is also responible for the bonding between you and your child. Of course, you don't really forget, that it was painful. I have two kids and I KNOW it was very painful, very hard, almost the feeling you can't stand it and just want tot gett rid oft the baby somehow. But it is just the knowledge, I can't REALLY remember the feeling or compare it to something. And when the Baby is out of you, you get really floated by the hormons, being so freaking happy to hold your baby, and all the love and feelings you have for this new life , that just came out of your body, it's the most awesome feeling I ever had and THAT I definetly remember more than all the pain! I don't want to convince anybody to have children, just wanted to explain, that the "forget the pain" thing is really true.

Everyone’s experience with copper IUDs is different so I wanted to share my story. I had probably the OPPOSITE experience as Katrin in terms of side effects. I got my copper IUD (also in Sweden like Katrin!) in December 2018. The midwife told me to take aspirin AND ibuprofen at higher doses than normal (cant remember exact dose) 2-3 hours beforehand, because the meds block different pain receptors. They measure your uterus to make sure the IUD isnt too long for your uterus (mine was 8.5cm). When my IUD was inserted, it felt like regular period cramps. My midwife was very sweet and explained everything she was doing as she was doing it. I didnt feel dizzy, I didnt get nauseous, I wasn’t lightheaded. I felt completely fine. Just felt like period cramps. The IUD insertion kickstarted my period and i had a slightly heavier than normal period right afterwards (7 days instead of my normal 4 days). I used to have cramps only 1-2 days during my period before I got the copper IUD, and for 6 months afterwards i would get cramps for 4-5 days during my period. My period was also significantly heavier for the first 6 months after I got it. But now that it’s been almost a year, my periods are pretty much back to how they were before I got the IUD and I dont even notice that it’s there. I hope this helps for anyone who is considering getting the copped IUD! I feel like a lot of people only share if there’s a horror story, and I hope this can give some insight into the fact that despite how it seems online, studies show that most women do not have issues with the copper IUD.

Thanks for sharing! I got the same instructions. I was on my period when they inserted it, and after it was in, I barely bled at all and that was my first day. I usually bleed for 3 days approximately. So I don’t know what to expect next month but we’ll see. 😅

I went in for the copper IUD about 8 months ago (my first birth control// I'm 23) because I was afraid of the hormones but I ended up taking the hormonal IUD because it's the equivalent to just 1 hormonal pill spread throughout a month, so very little! Also it's localized so the hormones don't go through the whole body. I'm really happy with it because it's secure/ something I don't have to think about for years and it made my cramps go away and periods lighter:) i 100 percent recommend it

I was so afraid of getting pregnant and because I never felt comfortable with the birth control options that are available, I almost just stopped having sex for a few years... I'm thankful that my partner has always been very understanding but it was hard. I then decided to try the implant that goes into the upper arm and SHIT that hurt SO BAD! I had it for just over one year but my fear of getting pregnant never went away... I then decided, because I am childfree by choice, to get my tubes cut and burnt and had the implant taken out and only then could I feel safe and comfortable and not at all worried about getting pregnant. It's been just over a year now since I got sterilized and I feel amazing!

@@adriannadenslinger9215 I have never heard that any of that would be possible because of only removing the tubes. If the ovaries were revomed that would be completely different. But I've been feeling so good and my periods are minimal, I bleed for a day and that is it. I was going in to get my tubes tied but my doctor recommended that we completely remove the tubes because it is known to decrease the risk of getting cancer in the ovaries for example. Highly would recommend! :)

Katrin Berndt oh gosh haha well that is shocking! I completely agree how terrifying that would be especially hearing from people you know. I have only seen that on reality type shows myself. I have been pregnant twice in the past five years . In all honestly, its a completely mystery to me how they could ignore it! Even belly size aside! 🙈. Symptoms demand attention in the most annoying ways at times. Intense Body aches ( mostly hips and spine actually shifting) , peeing every five min. intense smell super power, puking for months on end, walking differently, hunger that leads to extreme nausea if you don’t eat etc. how women endure everything completely oblivious until birth would be nearly a denial of reality.

Mandy Andree I recently had a “chemical pregnancy”/very early miscarriage. I only knew I was pregnant (HCG 27) for about 12 hours before the cramps and bleeding started. I stuck with my 48 hour follow-up quant test, but had to take it on a Friday afternoon and wait until Monday morning to get my results. My OBGyn’s staff told me to take it easy and not freak out because my level of bleeding didn’t necessarily mean I was having a miscarriage. I did A LOT of reading up on all the possible ways to have period-like bleeding during a viable pregnancy and there are actually quite a few. One that stuck out to me is that it’s possible to have light to moderate bleeding on an almost period-like schedule for quite a ways into a pregnancy, and if you’re a lady that doesn’t have heavy periods to begin with, you might not notice much of a difference. As far as baby bumps, there’s a lot of variables about if you show a bump or not. I happen to know of one woman who is fairly tall but also very thin who hardly showed her pregnancies at all, even late in her third trimester. My grandmother knows another woman who is very short and very thin who also didn’t show a bump. It isn’t common, but it is possible to be pregnant and not know you are pregnant, even up to childbirth. Every woman and every pregnancy is completely unique. Edit: I agree that if you know you are pregnant and experience bleeding, call your doctor and see them as quickly as possible. If you are bleeding so bad that you saturate a pad in less than an hour, go to the ER immediately.

I've only had one. I've had zero hair loss. I can't speak to how it feels getting it out. I think mine hurt so bad because they down played it way too much. Usually my docs over exaggerate the pain levels so since they said it would be a tiny pinch, I was like "oh this is gonna be so easy then."

hey long periods can be related, but the thing is cell receptors are the same for iron and copper, and since u have something popping copper into ur body u can see how iron absortion can be fucked up by the UID...along with zinc and magnesium, sometimes, which also explains common things as hair loss (zinc) and worst cramps in general (magnesium)

I have had mine in for more than a year now, and I experienced the same violent pain you described. I stopped the pill (which I had been taking for almost a decade...) the day before I got the copper IUD placed, so I don't really know if what happened ever since was due to the IUD or to stopping hormones. My acne came back on the lower half of my face and it is also very sensitive to my mental health, so when I am stressed out I have massive breakouts. Regarding the period itself, I'm quite regular (I find tracking apps quite useful) but I bleed much more than I used to, and the pain is most definitely present. To be honest, I'd rather deal with all that than go back on hormonal contraception!

When I was on a pill I too wanted to keep my period. And if I would tell that to someone, they would look at me like I was insane 😂 “I’d love not to have periods. That would be amazing!” Well, good for you, but let me keep mine.

Smart of you to stop taking hormone based BC. I stopped taking the pill the beginning of this year after being on it for two years. I’m a nurse and I feel passionately about the harms of hormone based birth control. Being on any female hormone (estrogen and progestin) for 5 years or more SIGNIFICANTLY increases your risk for female cancer!!! Ovarian (the most deadly), breast (the most common), and cervical (second most common) cancer. It’s really scary. Also being on birth control for 2 or more years can cause blood clots such as heart attack, stroke, deep vein thrombosis, and embolisms in your lungs. Besides the mental health aspect you pointed out, it’s a good idea to stop taking hormonal BC!

I habe a copper IUD for almost three years now. I had no problems with inserting it, just a liitle pain and some cramps for a few days. No more Problems after that. My period is a bit stronger and the cramps a little bit more than without any birth control (in the times I wanted to get pregnant), and way more than it was with estrogen birth control, which I had when I was younger, and much way more as it was, when I used Progesteron birth control, after my two kids, where I had no period at all, but I gained wheight and I lost my Libido, so I wanted an alternative. And the copper IUD is! You feel nothing and you don't have to think about it. Like you said there is always a risk of getting pregnant when you have sex, but it is acceptable for me

I guess I’d taken injection had it been offered. About this one I had my thoughts but I wasn’t recommended because I’ve never had baby. She said maybe not the best option. But I am also paranoid about pain this bad so I didn’t say anything else

My cervix is 7 cm! :D When I had my copper IUD put in, the doctor couldn't insert it because of the crooked angle of my cervix, so he had to call another doctor in to redo the procedure. Which meant I had my cervix measured twice in one appointment... I still remember the pain.

Same with not wanting to get pregnant and fearing it, but I am scared of the IUD too. I am taking pills for 6.5 years now and don't want to anymore (mental health reasons mainly), so I am also looking into different non-hormonal contraceptive...and I am very scared of the change and those options not working for me either. Also, my period was very very bad before the pill, IUD can make it even worse I heard, so that's not even an option for me I feel. :(

I was curious, are there some countries that allow woman to get sterlization? It SHOULD be fully legal for woman to get sterile surgically, just like men are allowed to get vasectomy... it's SO unfair that woman are not allowed (at least in my country that is unfortunately full of religious bullshit pushed into the law and politic). Woman's body is just her to decide, it's not damned public property!

Ugh that sucks! I chose the copper partially because I don't want hormones but also because once you turn 26 (which I did 1 month ago), the price here in Sweden for the Mirena goes from like $10 to $130, and the copper is way cheaper. ^^

I'm currently using barrier method because i briefly re-tried pills after my copper iud came out and was reminded that hormonal BC is NOT for me. I've had a regular UID that changed position in my uterus, so that it stopped working! Two times my doctor re-inserted it, but my body wouldn't let me have it, my body pushed it out of position (NOT out of my vagina, still up there!!) so the hormones stopped working ;-( I'd have my period so I knew it had fucked up. Ended up with a copper UID because it's smaller, and no problems so far, but I'm kinda scared story is going to repeat itself and I won't have a chance this time knowing.. You cannot be sure it will fall out at all!! And I must say I'm sceptic of using a menstrual cup - even though I really want to- because of my body rejecting the UID so easily =((( When is men's birth control coming to the market!!!!!!!!?!?!?!?! UUUGH

I chose an IUB! Its just like a copper IUD - but it's a ball. That means it can't get stuck somewhere or wanders of to where it shouldn't, which was a big fear for me. Inserting it was horrible, just like you described, but it means 3 years of peace. Like everything with copper the flow increased a lot. Cramps also increased at first, but after a few months it felt like when I was taking hormones. And... idk if its copper related, but my cycle got longer from ~22 days to ~30. So I have to say I love it! Sadly its pretty expensive (probably because it's only around for a few years), but everything about this matter is expensive...

I got a gynefix placed in my uterus when I was 14 because I hate the thought of hormonal protection. That was the best solution for me :) Its still quite knew and also made out of copper. But other as the IUD which just gets placed inside, the gynefix has a knot which is poked inside the muscle. And if you ask me THAT HURTED SOOOO BAD. But it can stay there for 5 years :) I also use a menstrual cup for a few years know and it works perfectly fine :) if you're curious you should definetly inform yourself bout it!!!!

I had paraguard for 4 years (copper IUD), my exact words to my doctor was get me the longest term, idiot proof contraceptive I can get. Anyway after carefully keeping track of it, getting well woman checks every year. I had the IUD fail and ended up pregnant. I had thought I was done but my 2nd daughter came along and now 100% I'm done. I have the arm implant and I like it. I like after three years I update it. But now im even more careful. And I dont end up in the 1% margin of pregnancy failure. While I had the IUD I liked it, if you dont have too frequent sex it works. But it is a spermicide, copper kills sperm so take that information as you will

Can you tell me what kind of hormonal contraceptives were ruled out because of your UC? I follow this RU-vidr Hannah Witton who also has UC, and she had a flare-up close after inserting her hormonal IUD. She had an emergency surgery to remove her colon. Her doctors told her that there hasn't been enough research done to tell her if the flare-up was related to her IUD... but I wonder if maybe in your country it is different and the hormonal IUD wasn't even an option for you because of your UC...
@Katrinberndt
@Katrinberndt 5 лет назад
Yeah I saw her videos on that. I asked my doctor and they said the same thing. No scientific proof. The ones that were ruled out contained a specific substance and honestly I don’t even remember what they were. 😬 But a hormonal IUD was an option for me. Only some specific pills were ruled out.

I can relate to some of this, because I've never wanted kids, but internally I thought kids were something you had to do. I knew I was willing to fight any authoritarian figure to avoid having to do this, but I didn't know you could just choose it, until I was told so. I was way younger than you (10 years give or take), so the realisation was nice, but not as relieving, as I had not come to a conscious conclusion that kids was a must-do. It was more of a social construct in my head. Beyond this, is a damn essay, so I hope the ones reading this will find it interesting. When it comes to birth control, I am demisexual. This is related because it's on the ace spectrum (You don't feel sexual attraction towards people), and quite literally translates to half-sexual. It means that you don't feel sexual attraction to someone before you have developed a bond with them first. So I was into my twenties when I found someone I wanted to do the devil's tango with. This is good, because I knew more (thanks YT). However, it as also bad because it meant I had a very small window of time between getting active, getting comfortable in the whole process and making a choice before I was too old to receive support fromt he youth places. We stuck to condoms, but then one day it hit me that it would cost money if I ever decided I wanted to try. This didn't really hit me the first time I was advised to considering a secondary method of contraception, because it was too much at once. As the poor lady I am, I decided to go ask if they would let me get the coil for free (I was a few months too old by then), because I might as well try it for free. They were very understanding and said yes. Because my uterus is tilted / flipped, the lady tried to get the thing in 3 times before she went to get the guy with the most expertise. It hurt like hell, but I focused on breathing so I could at least control the pain a little. I forgot to control how fast I was breathing, towards the end, so I ended up hyperventilating. I didn't pass out, but I couldn't feel my hands because they cramped up. My body seems to be taking the coil well, so it seems that pain was worth it. I don't want to get my tubes tied, because my body is very weak. I have a feeling a surgery like that would require a longer healing time for me than for the average person, so I'm not into that. I am also a very anxious person, who constantly doubts herself. I know I don't want kids, but I still have worries. Like, am I just so aware of how messed up I am that I know I wouldn't be an adequate parent? Am I scared I'll fuck up any potential child because of how shitty *my* parents were? Am I just aware I'll never have the extra energy to parent and am psychologically fooling myself to think I don't want kids go avoid the heartbreak from knowing I can't do the whole thing? Is it because I'm poor and mentally broken and secretly worry I'll always be in that situation? The list goes on and on. So it's easier to just potentially have 5 Kyleenas and let them eggs run out, you know? Thanks for listening, whoever read all of this. Til Katrin, jeg fant deg nettopp, så jeg sitter og plukker opp tilfeldige videoer YT foreslår meg av deg nå som jeg har abonnert. Pluss alle de nye da, for du virker som en super kul chick.
