How I Clean Cymbals (Brasso method) 

Excellent video thank you! I'm in the middle of cleaning some vintage Amati hats with Brasso. I didn't think about using white spirit to finish the job. Will do now. Cheers. :-)

What music are you listening to in the background? I love Hammond Music like that and haven't been able to locate proper artists or a genre. Thanks and nice work on the cymbals, I find this method also works the best.

In the last part of the video, the high speed clean, it's brasso then spirits then a dry rag for the last bit? About to clean my sabian XS20, not fussed about the logo because I don't like it anyway

Can I use white vinegar instead of the white spirits

any tips on cleaning natural finish cymbals? ive heard bad thing about using Polish on natural finish

Is there a reason for using white spirit after the polish? Is it not better to use a cleaner first then polish? Just asking, have no idea

what is white spirits? is that mineral spirits?

that 'muck' is oxide from the cymbal. In theory if you keep polishing with a cleaner you'll eventually rub right through. :o

I just wash my traditional finish cymbals at the shower with soap and worls just fine to maintain it clean.

Kitchen roll? Can't say I've ever heard that before.

Warning to any drummers, using Brasso is not a good idea. . It's far too abrasive, just look at how much metal is on the cloth when you use it. It also flattens, softens and changes the shape of the tonal grooves. Of course it will clean the dirtiest of cymbals, but at a cost. Learn to live with the tarnished cymbals, keep them clean with standard washing-up liquid to remove loose dirt and grease. Don't waste your money on branded cymbals cleaners, they are now only cymbal polish. Legislation has made the use of old style cymbal cleaners impossible. NEVER use Brasso on new cymbals with protective coatings, just use a soft cloth to remove greasy finger marks. Try using gloves when setting up and breaking down your drum set.
