last time i showed how MY hair is cut, this time i thought i'd share my favorite way to cut curly hair on my guests! I hope you all enjoy. Please comment, like, and subscribe :)
niyah w I have the same issue. I'm going to try divacurl.com and find a stylist in my area and then try to check them out on social media to get an idea of their work. Food luck
Yeah I'm a stylist and in school we only learned on straight hair when I asked why, she said because 90% of people have straight hair and most curly clients want straight hair so it's a waste of time. I think that's a very hurtful thought.
PressnPolish by Jacqueline, I “trained” as a hair dresser a few years back after cutting and colouring people’s hair for 15 years “untrained” I learnt nothing, the tutor told me to just keeping doing what you do and how you do it because you’re really good. I’ve always cut by eye, which I think is actually an advantage instead of only being taught to cut hair by breaking it down into parts. I have naturally very curly hair, and whilst “training” the tutor asked me to teach the rest of the class how to cut and style curly hair. She gave the same reasons, no one really has or wants curly hair so we don’t teach it haha! I just thought she was lazy and never going anywhere near my precious locks
+MISS LYSS Wow. Her hair looks amazing. Just a breath of fresh air. Just saw a video of someone cutting curly hair and the first thing she did was brush it, I cringed when she did that. This cut is beautiful. Where is your salon?
I wish I could find a place that could my curls like curls are supposed to be cut. Too long have my curls been washed and fine combed right before cutting with out drying.
Thanks for sharing this. I've got combination afro Caribbean hair that ranges from 2b - 3c strands with some totally straight strands. My hair is breaking from the middle of my crown is shorter whereas the rest is shoulder length. This is a good way to cut my natural hair to make it all even to a much shorter style.
hi can you please do a more in-depth video on your haircut I'm very interested in getting something very similar to yours but I have no idea what to tell my hairstylist or how long it really is I would just like more details. I happen to have curly hair thats dyed blonde and it's pretty damaged and I would kind of like to cut it pretty short to help embrace the curls and healthiness
I went to hair school and there are so many awesome ways to cut curly hair! I wanted to see this method, after it is straightened to see how even it has come out! Love the finished project tho!
Ocean lights it wouldn’t be even when straightened, if you’re going to get a dry cut it’s kind of assumed you wear your hair curly daily. It’s not wildly uneven either but there’s no sort of style to the cut once you straighten your hair because that’s not what the cut was for.
Denise Conner thank you so much! I always feel bad I don’t have actual people to suggest to you all. But I would do research on stylists in your area to see if anyone works with natural curl. Stylists are usually very visual so if you showed them a picture or this video it would help them understand exactly how you want your hair cut
Is your Hair 3C? Also.... What does "WA" stand for? I apologize if it is a stupid question, but I do not want to open up Google in the Middle of this Video to find results. I live in Florida, and there are not many Hairstylists that could cut my Hair. They did not even want to straighten it and were scared of how long it would take. It really is refreshing to find people out there willing to take the time and effort to assist you, since many Hairstylists today do not want to learn new skills and handle "Difficult or Bad Hair". Again, some of the Hairstylists that are here, not all. Just that I haven't found or heard of any yet, and I am enthralled by your skills.🌸🌻🌸
Gabrieluchyp12 I believe it'd be something like a 3c however I don't pay attention to that lol WA stands for Washington state.. so I'm not close to you at all :/ but I appreciate your kind words and hope that you can find someone who you're very comfortable with
+MISS LYSS Thank You Very Much~! 😊💕 I guess for now I will just cut my hair by myself, and probably look at more of your videos and be content with what I have for now. 🎄🎁🍰 I also wish you Joy and happiness, just as you probably do all those girls (and maybe boys) whom you've cut hair for, so, Happy Holidays Lyss!💝 And Good Night as well. 😊 Also, Thank you for replying to my comment! It made me very happy. 🎆
It doesn't have to be but it is best if it's not too stretched out. That way you're able to see what the shape would look like as you're cutting it based on how you normally wear it!
This is so funny, i wanted my hair in a bob again and i showed my hairdresser the before! Her hair cut was exactly what I wanted before she she did the hair cut. Nevertheless this hairdresser did a great job on her hair.
I absolutely love your hairstyle as well as the cut you've done on your client! I've always had a straight cut because I don't believe people like cutting my hair..so it's in a bell shape. But with those layers, would it look weird if I ever wanted to straighten my hair?
no it shouldn't look weird. it'll actually give the hair more shape while it's straight as well. But keep in mind that it's very difficult to have a perfect curly cut and have it translate perfectly into a straight cut because all the curls aren't going to stretch out the same.. if that makes sense.
Super cute. I have few curly hair clients and i really wanna work on my curly hair skills. Any suggestions? Also. What settings do you keep your dryer on? Cold ? Hot? High? Low? TIA! Beautiful work!
Just practice!! Product is big! Using the right product and also the right amount. And yes my blow dryer is on medium temp. Medium speed all the way until the end and then I'll do a cool shot all the way around to lock in the shape
I wish you were in my area, my hair is curly and i want it cut about on my shoulders without it looking ugly.. And another thing, i have really long hair, amd everytime I'm just getting a trim! A TRIM the hair stylist and my relatives say " Aw, but your hair is so long, you're wasting it" I mean i get it, sure it's cool to see someone with long hair, but it's annoying when it happens everytime..
@Miss Lyss Love this cut!! can you do a video of this cut DONE ON on yourself by your self; step by step ?- really need to learn how to do this cut on my own head without any help :/
It could totally be done on fine hair but you'd want to be careful not to go too crazy on the layers or else it'll get sparse. Also, someone with fine hair might not get as much volume as my guest in the video
I loved this video miss lyss😍😍... I would like to know where are you locate so i can go and do my hair with you. I have a Long time trying to find a place where to treat my curly hair. Well God bless you and your wonderful hands.
where are you located?! this I the Ford time I see a curly hair cut I would Deff let someone else do on me!!! I have been looking for someone to know how to cut curly hair like this for about 3 years!!!! maybe make a video for those to keep up with it at home?! it's hard to find someone who knows about curly hair!!! please consider making a video for the ladies at home not having good luck finding stylers like you!
Charlaine C. Thanks for your feedback. Just curious, are you wanting to see more styling upkeep? Or cutting? I wouldn't typically suggest to cut your hair at home unless you're experienced
Maybe protective styles, how you sleep to keep the curls alive. at the moment, I like to trim my edges when my hair is dry and it has helped me a million with getting my hair back to life. sometimes going to the salon is either out of reach or no time. thankfully, I have an eye and hands for this art and have had much luck with my hair. Believe it or not, I have had more luck on RU-vid and similar sites than going to a salon. curly hair is still little far fectched for some. I wosh you were in NYC, the crowds would come flying by the bunch. Thank you for replying so fast! I wasn't expecting that, lol.
Charlaine C. Sounds good! And yah I get what you mean. Have you ever tried going to a deva chan salon? That's kind of what inspires the cutting I do although I'm not certified through them. And thank you, that's a huge compliment! I'll try to get something like that out soon
jorja Hollowell without seeing or feeling your hair I'd suggest something with a moderate amount of layers. Not too many or else it will make the ends look sparse. You'll probably have to manipulate your hair a bit to get it to have the volume you want. Diffusing will help as well as using texture sprays and hairsprays to give more texture and hold. Hope this helps a little
I have curly hair myself. I liked the cut but the diffusing process was horrible and the finish has to much frizz. Her kind of hair doesn't seem like a freezy hair. And because of the way she defused it seems like the hair wont last her not even 3 days.
I'm so sorry! I just haven't had time for RU-vid, but if you follow me on Instagram you can see my work! I'm starting to do a little IGTV as well. @alyssaadamshairart is my handle!
Hi! I am a new hairstylist in the industry. You cut my friend Jadahs hair a while ago. I am looking to become a texture specialist, I have naturally curly hair it's like a 4b I think!! Do you have any tips on how to start? I would love to connect with you!
My advice is just to practice! I'm always learning new things. And to promote yourself. When I started I knew what I wanted to be known for and I advertised that and it's brought me a lot of the clients I'm looking for.
My daughter has curly hair, I can never find anyone to cut her hair and it actually not look like a bell shaped cut. can you give ant advice on what to ask for ?
Yes! Most of the time people are scared to cut curly hair so they just cut it all one length, which causes that triangle bell shape. The hair needs more layers to sit on top of each other like in the video! That will give the curls more of that cute round shape. I hope this helps
Sorry if she wants to straighten her hair!!!! That cut won’t be a diva!!!! This is not state board certified. Who came up with this trend???? That cut looked a lot worse at the end!!! Follow hair cutting guidelines!!!! I really feel bad for these girls with the curly hair that are being just taken advantage of. And I’m a licensed hairstylist!!!!!!
I always discuss with my clients before cutting, if they ever wear their hair straight. This guest did not, so we cut curl by curl. This was never claimed to be a certified Deva cut. And it is state board regulated since there's no sanitation law broken here. Cutting curl by curl is very popular for curly hair and does tend to have the best results without the dreaded "shelf layers". My guest was extremely happy after this haircut!!! Every stylist is different and has different styles and techniques. No need for negativity here. Thanks
Marie Marie I use a medium heat medium speed! They key is to be gentle.. and softly gather each section, hold it to your scalp for about 10 seconds and then gently let it back down. Hope this helps!
Hey I live in Houston Texas have been here for five years and I cannot find anybody to cut my hair the way I want because it is very curly and the last hairstylist I went to said it was to pretty and she didn't want to cut it. I am Puerto rican my hair is thick curly I want a drastic change I am about to try and cut it myself lOl
Saudy Enriquez you could look for stylists that do a deva cut or something like it. I'm cutting curl by curl in this video so look for someone who does the same!
Look up Brassfields Salon and Spa on Google! The phone number should be on the website. Or find me on Instagram @alyssaadamshairart. I'd love to have you in!
Hi. I loved the cut and noticed you're in Tacoma, WA. I live near by I would like to book an apt with you. How can I get in contact with your salon or you?
Terry Chavez you can call my salon directly. The name is Brassfield's salon and spa. You can go to the website and get the phone number there! Ask to book with Alyssa and the receptionist will take it from there 🙏🏻
