UCSD is the clear choice. I’ve only heard (accepted) from one school thus far, kind of assuming it means I didn’t get into the others.

Congratulations! Where were you accepted? If you applied for masters programs, March is the months decisions roll out. For phds, it varies, however, if the program requires an interview then you probably didn’t get in. But you still have an option, so you should be proud.

Hi Ivan, did you have to get different recommenders for each school application? or had submitted the same set of letters of recommendation to all your PhD applications? May I ask for an advice how to get your recommenders send their letters to all these schools? i feel like i might be asking these recommenders too much if i tell them to send their letters to 10 different schools. thanks in advance!
@IvanValdovinosGradSchool
@IvanValdovinosGradSchool Месяц назад
Yes the same three people sent letters of recommendation to all 10 of the programs I applied to. I talked to them ahead of time and asked them if they were willing and able to submit that many on my behalf. I also selected people who I had a strong relationship with so I knew they would support me. When I made the official ask through email, I sent them an entire package of my materials with a spreadsheet of all the programs I was applying including the links and deadlines. I tried to make it as easy as possible for them since I know it’s a lot of work.

Hi Ashima, it really depends on what you want to do. At the moment, I am thinking about becoming a professor or higher education administrator. I heard that tenure track positions are very competitive to get, but I haven’t looked deep into that like of work.

Hello Ivan. A similar situation happened to me. After 4/15, I was accepted by a program AFTER being waitlisted. It happened TWO days after I accepted an offer of admission from another university. What happens if I reject an offer of admission AFTER already accepting my PhD offer of admission??
@IvanValdovinosGradSchool

Hi John, if you haven’t enrolled in courses, I think it’s perfectly fine if you reach out to the department to let them know that you have changed your mind and will no longer accept their offer. It’s all about communication. If you were in contact with a potential advisor, I would reach out to them as well.

I am a lecturer of computer science department in a college for 12years...My educational background is computer science but now I want to take a PhD in education...Is it possible to take a PhD in USA ?plz answer @want to know about funding also
@IvanValdovinosGradSchool
@IvanValdovinosGradSchool 2 года назад
Yes! As long as you can make a case as to why you want to pursue whatever program you want to pursue you should be able to get into a PhD in education. Funding varies from program to program. Some are fully paid for while others are not. It’s up to you as an applicant to do research to find that information out.

Since there are so many ranking websites, which ranking you would recommend before choosing a program.
@IvanValdovinosGradSchool
@IvanValdovinosGradSchool 2 года назад
Hi Anshul, I personally wouldn’t rely on a ranking to determine which program to select. I would focus more on research fit and where you see yourself growing as a scholar and which program will best prepare you for the career you want. I like to look at the U.S. News and World Report Best Grad School rankings.

You mentioned the University offered you to visit, I have also received such an invitation. I will be an international student and I don't really know how to go about it. It's my first time leaving country and really have no idea on how to go about it. The even is in a little over a month. Any guidance would be helpful.
@IvanValdovinosGradSchool
@IvanValdovinosGradSchool 2 года назад
Hi, I am not sure how it works in terms of logistics, but I would guess that you’ll need a visa and the visa process could take more than a month. I would suggest emailing the coordinator and asking if there are virtual options that you might be able to attend. You might also want to speak to current international students in the department to learn more about visas and moving to your institution. I hope this helps.

You're doing great job, I have a question, Did you write different research proposals for every program or you wrote one and sent it to different universities? Writing different proposals will most probably take too much time to develop on each different topics... like techer education, comparative education, leadership in education or hifher education related programs in different universities... Please guide us what is the easy way to apply for multiple programs in different universities to get a chance of acceptance with funding... Thanks

Hi, I submitted the same application materials to all 10 schools I applied for. Most of them didn’t require a writing sample and if they did I submitted the same sample without any modifications. I did this because I wanted to research a specific topic and my writing sample was about that specific topic. I applied to programs that suited my interest and found faculty who did work in that broader field.

Is San Diego English or Spenish sparking state? How is this state in terms of living and study and acceptance for south Asian/international students?
@IvanValdovinosGradSchool
@IvanValdovinosGradSchool 2 года назад
@@FN-rh8ek All states are primarily English speaking. It is expensive to live in California and there are a lot of south Asian students so I would assume that California is a good place for south Asian international people.

What was your GRE score for your PhD application?
@IvanValdovinosGradSchool
@IvanValdovinosGradSchool Год назад
My GRE scores were low and I knew they would be low because I didn’t study and in general I perform poorly on standardized testing so I made sure other parts of my application were strong. My scores were the following: verbal 140 (11%), quantitative 146 (23%), analytic writing 4 (57%).
