Here I show how I designed an automaton using an empty sardine can. The process has some similarities to doing Sudoku in that there are initial limitations like the size of the can and as parts are designed new limitations are introduced. In the end all the pieces have to fit and mesh together to give the desired result.
You can make this automaton yourself using simple tools following video instructions • Make this automaton. F...

Haven't got time to make it. You can buy this automaton in my SHOP

I also sell automata and plans on my website www.lowbot.co.uk/

I really love your work Phillip, if you haven't written any books yet, it's your calling to teach as the appraoch you are taking with storyboarding, mapping it out, etc. is just flat out perfect.

So helpful and interesting to see the design thinking that goes into this. Really helpful to go from simply following tutorials to actually designing our own ones!

Yes you must try designing your own. For me it is the most absorbing part of it. Often the solutions to the problems you’ll have used before. Other times, such as in this one how to make the 2 fish halves flap with just one cam can take days or sometimes weeks to think over until a workable idea surfaces. Thank you for watching the video and commenting.
