Uh huh, and we’re discussing them as characters. I could just as easily have been like ‘we’re talking about stick figures’ when you said ‘Mark secretly enjoys the attention’. What, you think stick figures can enjoy attention? No, of course you don’t. But you’re describing them as though they are alive and so am I, even though they are not and we know they are not. Why? Because they’re characters and as such we are to _imagine_ that they are alive and they are real. That’s literally the concept of suspension of disbelief.
??? It's about drawing two or more characters in a scene, so of course it's gonna be predominantly artists that draw those things a lot, and most of those people are going to be shippers of some kind
I love loVE LOVE how messy and unfinished your drawings are for this lesson. A lot of other art teachers will show a completely finished or at least cleaned up sketch and it becomes so daunting because I don’t know which aspects of the art to focus on for what I am trying to learn. In this way I can completely focus on the concept of what you’re teaching and not the difference in skill or art style we both have
Honestly, the way my characters' anatomy works has made it kind of hard to make them "touch", but as soon as this was almost over, I started redrawing an interaction that I drew a few days ago... Suddenly it looks so much better. Thank you!!
That first line immediately made me think they had some specific features to their characters lol, like imagine you're drawing a t-rex and a biblically accurate angel together and ya' just don't know how it should work, but Agatha and $*&#*%^&^!(* just don't get enough art
Wow this tutorial is like some character feng shui or something, I never see someone pointing out the flow beetween character / objects. Thank you for the tutorial!
lol Feng Shui is such a funny way of calling it, but its all fundamental design principles, more specifically composition, for anyone interested in learning more abt tht aspect :)
@@Brittanysplittanyships are apart of the internet even if the “vibes” are completely not there. People. Will. Make. It. A. Ship. So get used to it lol
I've made many interactions with my characters, some share the same braincell, argue and ask the dumbest of questions, along with heartfelt moments. Thanks for the tips!
DUDEE I'VE BEEN NEEDING A VIDEO LIKE THIS FOR YEARS I CAN NEVER **NEVERR** DRAW CHARACTER INTERACTIONS-- OR HAVE IDEAS OR HAVE THEM INTERESTING FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER 😭😭💖💖
thank you so much for this video, it was like watching you do magic, you make it look simple and explain things in such an easy to understand way, very beginner friendly! i finally want to draw characters interacting without feeling too scared and overwhelmed by the task
i love the tip of getting even their hairs to interact, because it's something many people often overlook. i learned so much from this vid, thank you!!! ❤
another helpful video just as i was stressing abt drawing ocs together 😭😭!! thank you as always for making another outstanding video to help us gain insight into your process!
2:47 hi Ruikasa No but fr this video helped a lot. I’ve been wanting to draw interactions with characters from my original story, and this is like a little path for me to explore
omg, so, i would call myself an intermideate artist, ive drawn for a while, but this????!!!! this just shook my whole reality!!!! like this is the best way ANYONE has ever explained to me character interactions!!! like, so many times its just "draw from reference" but this truly takes the whole concept to another level and makes it so much easier to create interactions from imagination!!!! thank you for this video!!!!
thank u thank u thank u this is exactly the kind of video i needed. usually people just say something that boils down to "vibes" when u ask for tips but this has actual helpful advice
This was so helpful! Hearing you laugh at the sword one reminded me so much of myself drawing something silly 😂 Can't wait to use these tips with my OCs!
this was so interesting to watch, I have a lot of stuff to think about next time I draw my characters...I also love how you say "how *I* draw" in the title. its so subtle but just very genuine and I realize how little I see that these days :)
i am a beginner artist when it comes to composition and this was so useful ❤ also its amazing how invested i am in their dynamic just from these drawings 😂
Aside from all the BARK fandom (which I’m a part of, absolutely) this video was AMAZING!! I can sense you have a very deep knowledge about many aspects of the composition theory, every chapter was full of super useful informations (that could seem obvious when you think about it but to be able to apply it is another whole other level!) Thank you so much, I’ll try to follow your tips and I hope I’ll finally be able to go over the general stiffness of my work when I try to draw my ship or smth 🥺💓
BRUHHH this is exactly what my goals are at the moment! Awesome video! It was really helpful to have been thinking of answers as to why I have so much trouble with character interaction for past couple weeks, and then following up with watching this when it came out. It really helped solidify where I was on the right track and where I still had blind spots. THANK YOUUUU 💚 ( Character interaction my beloved ;~; 💚 For you, I will understand these concepts front-to-back, and one day… the Characters will be so good at Interacting I SWEAR- )
i NEEDED this! looking at interactions i can see but i couldnt put it into words but explaining it like this really helps!! you’d think you already get these things until someone actually points it out 😭 tsym
20:37 THISS!! ive always felt this but just stuck to the normal posing cause its easier XD but you totally described how i feel bout this...the back shot is so good
Something that's great with this sort of breakdown when you're already familiar with interactions and posing and such is that having it broken down and explained helps you see all the parts. At least for me it does. It helps me figure out "okay, I am here, and if I want to take it to the next level, I need to consider this and maybe add more of that". A lot of this I did know but I had been doing most pose studying subconsciously. Having it broken down was helpful. So, thank you!
This video helped me make sense of the balance between characters pretty well! Thank you for the epic vid 👌 The characters just forming for for the vid and instantly gaining fans lmao. Opposites attract wins again 🔥
My #1 tip for drawing characters that overlap each other: draw them in different colors!! If you're drawing digitally this can be easily accomplished by changing the color of your brush (and you can go a step further when drawing very complicated poses and draw each character in their own layer), if you work traditionally you can try out erasable color pencils, they're honestly so fun to work with.
Thank you so much for explaining this! I've been struggling to wrap my head around drawing characters interacting, but this gave me exactly the basics I need to think with! ❤
I am horrid at doing charater interaction and outfit designs so I put in a project that's been ongoing almost a year of drawing all my OCs once. And I swear I've improved. From my first just standing next to each other to now hugging and laughing!!! Same with outfits. From shorts x t shirts to designs and more!
this is rlly helpful :)) it’s so easy to follow and the simpleness of the sketches make it relatable in a way other tutorials tend to lack imo. tysm mark x bob forever
