I believe this to be your best video yet. I've been to the Philippines several times with my wife of 28 years to visit her beautiful family. As a borne-bred, hardcore New Yorker, I felt everything you said. The rat race, the stress, and all the drama. It's not worth it anymore. This year I say goodbye to Corporate America, and retire to the Philippines with my wife. We are also building a home just like you and we are so excited about it. Nice Job! 💪

Just found your video here and I agree that life in the provinces are more laid-back than it is in the cities in metro manila. Yet it really does not matter where you are in the Philippines because generally THE PEOPLE are just as friendly and happy. Waking up in the metro is just as the same even if there are not much roosters to wake you up but you can just go around and you can find anybody to greet to and have a friendly chat. Filipinos are festive yet religious people and nobody will ever look down on anybody. We do not care about the status whether you're a rich kid or not. I'm glad to hear your family is with you and that you are planning to build your new home and life in the Philippines. Glad also to hear your health is just getting better each day, I believe that the vibes your getting matters a lot and it will reflect in your well being. We have enough people here you can lean on and trust. Good doctors and healers are not a rare find. Even if the Philippines is influenced by the west in many ways you can still see that eastern vibe and culture. Btw I'm from Quezon City in the metropolis and I do get breaks on a weekend and check out nearby places to chill out. Elections are over and you can expect a better Philippines both in the provinces and industrialized cities in the next 6yrs. I'm must congratulate you on your initial decisions going for you calling to live a life where THE WORLD is not a burden anymore and life is more refreshing and simple everyday where there is peace and quiet to ground you where life is more defining.

You and your amazing content helped me see life in a very different light. I'm Canadian and have been second guessing where I'm currently living for years. The culture and society we used to love is crumbling here in the West. People aren't nice to eachother anymore. Selfish and often cruel. Women don't seem happy, are entitled and crass. Looking forward to coming over this fall and looking around. Thank you once again. You and Rachel have really helped me make up my mind. Wishing you further future success my man. Respect

Such a powerful video - thank you! Us Europeans can usually out-do Americans on the taxes... try close to 50%, and then as soon as you have a net worth above 150k USD the government take 1% from you each year! Doesn't matter if markets are down, and/or inflation is soaring. Luckily I woke up to this in my early 20's and have a plan in place with many similarities to yours. Thanks for the knowledge and experience sharing - it also acts as motivation when it's -10, dark until 10am, and western hustle culture (Americans win that title though!) is gnawing away at you, haha!

Cory, I can totally relate... I was born in the Philippines but raised in the States, my dad was in the Navy and I’m also a Navy vet. Every time I visit the Philippine, I don’t wanna come back to the US to deal with the stress, negativity, and racism that comes with it. I plan to retire there as well, however I feel as if there may be times I may have to come back to the states. I have a son and a lot of family here in Virginia Beach. Tbh I know it's not always rainbows and butterflies in the PH, still this is a developing country with so many issues. But despite all of these, I cannot see myself replacing my citizenship just to gain the benefits of other rich nations. You can call me a hypocrite, but the fact is we are all citizens of the world, we are human regardless of our race and nationality, and we are where our feelings tell us where we should be. And wherever I may go, Philippines will always be my home, my safe haven and my happy place ❤ 🇵🇭 P.S. I wish you continuous happiness in your life Cory! Please always stay healthy 👍

What a sincere and honest post. I wish all American expats think the way you do but unfortunately there are lots of them who go there and still have the mindset of the kind of Americans that think they're the best in the world. SeeAs a Filipino who moved to the US 20 years ago to find "greener pastures" I totally agree with you. I never felt totally welcomed here and I never felt that I was home. Don't get me wrong, I made more than I probably could have if I stayed financially speaking, but as they say, money can never make you happy. I've been divorced, cheated on, taken advantage of and come home to an empty house. Sometimes I tell myself I should have listened to my Grandma. She told me that the grass isn't always greener on the other side and that you won't miss what you never had. But in 3 years I'm finally coming back home to the place of my childhood. Where all my memories are filled with happy ones riding a buffalo with my friends and going to the beach and hiking trails in the beautiful mountains in my home province. Best of luck to you my friend. I hope someday we will be able to meet and share some great happy memories, Philippine style

The reason older Americans and Europeans get frustrated is because the Filipino people live by a code of always being one to two hours late for everything under the sun. Filipinos unlike Americans have a non hurry or non on time mentality. In the Philippines everyone is late for work, school and or to appointments. In A America this kind of always being late is unacceptable and will get you fired, expelled from school or college and can get you into serious trouble with local or federal government offices for appointments. No offence but also the Technology in the Philippines is ranked at about the 1930 level especially in Hospital medicine and practice. I resently spent a long time in the Ozamis Hospital and had fourteen nurses miss performing a basic I.V. insertion because the kept missing my veins. Something that is not acceptable in the US and will get a nurse fired on the spot. It's a hell of an adjustment for me to be here because I was a large CEO for a grocery store chain. It's like going from constant action to a complete stop here. Lol

Living here in California for the last 45 years, I have experienced it all and can say I do not like the direction that this State and the country are going. I want to reconnect back with my heritage and enjoy that simple and idyllic life you are living. The negative things about your country are not the fault of the average Filipinos. They are the fault of the politicians who make stupid laws that keep the people in poverty. One example is the job requirements that the hired person needs to pay for but they have no money to pay for and the employer is not allowed to pay it so the person can't start working until they save up enough money to pay for the job requirements but they need a job to get the money to pay for the job requirements. When Filipinos told me about this I thought it's absolutely insane and it's going to keep many poor Filipinos trapped in poverty. What is wrong with your politicians in the Philippines?

Hi Cory. My asawa and I are new to your channel. We appreciate your candor and sharing your experiences in this video. I'm sure many of your viewers can relate well to what you were saying (truly). My wife is from Surigao in Mindanao. We live in North Carolina now (I'm from Boston originally), but planning our big move to the Philippines in the next 4 years. Just bought an oceanfront lot in the Aklan region of Panay island within view of Boracay. We're looking forward to building our home soon. I've been to the Philippines many times. The people are wonderful and love the province life. My wife says when I'm there, I'm very much a different person... more relaxed, I smile more. Stress is a killer... we work hard to buy more stuff - I think George Carlin said it best: "That's the whole meaning of life... trying to find a place for your stuff... You go out and get a bigger house just to hold more of your stuff." We become slaves to stuff at the expense of our own peace of mind, our health, our family. Anyway... my wife, Maricel and I appreciate your vlog. We're watching some of your older videos... some great information on the house build. Thank you for sharing. Keep the great content coming my friend. All the best to Rachel and you.

Rural life in the Philippines is a paradise. Slow but it feels fulfilling. You do not need much to go by if you are not after material things. If I earn just $10 a day, I would probably live still eating 3x a day, with slow internet but happy. haha. Loved to listen to your journey!

Happiness resides from within - in our mind & heart. Because everywhere you go, happiness goes with you. However, realitybites; happiness really needs good bank book savings account, for you to move & live comfortably. This is why, you must travel as much as you can while you are young, and learn from those countries you visited from, such that eventually if you want to retire alone, you know exactly what country that can offer you a home with healthcare staff that can take of your needs when you can no longer move around physically. Reality must be read correctly especially in the moment when you suffer Alzheimer's disease, and you are alone, away from your family. Sad reality that we need to face while we have the time to save money. Make sure you have your monthly pension. Retiring in a country without a good universal healthcare like the Philippines, would be a challenging one. If you love the Philippines, then better get a very good healthcare program that can take care of your bedside nursing till your passing. But if you want to retire in the Philippines with your Filipino wife, better go for a tiny home, a decent tiny home with an ample garden lot. Don't put your money in constructing huge house that only you & your wife living on it - save your money in the bank instead. Be wise & practical. Your $1,600 monthly pension can go along long way in the Philippines -Php83,000/ a month for two people is very comfortable here in the Philippines especially if you chose to retire in Dumaguete City where beach, inland falls, huge malls, university, churches sprawling in one area. Planning is reality. Thank you for your life changing vlog.

Dude just found your channel and binge watched all your videos until 4am last night. You are living the dream and your house is amazing! Your journey is really inspiring as someone who has been burned out in the tech industry for a number of years now but feels like a slave to the high income and all the pressures that come with it. I feel extremely fortunate but at the same time I don't remember what happiness is like. All the material things around me, while exciting at first, now feel like weight that slows me down and keeps me situated. I don't have debt and have perfect credit but being someone that was 40k in the hole less than 10 years ago with bare money for food -- I never want to experience that ever again. I feel like I can't say no to 200k+ a year but at the same time my love for what I do has been slowly ate away to where it no longer feels like a passion. Sure would be nice to build a home in paradise and feel like you have a place in the world.

Hi Cory, it's my first time to watch your you tube chanel , you just said what I needed to hear. I am a Filipino Canadian. Have been contemplating on returning back to the Philippines so my girls would be abe to experience the life that they truly deserve. As a working mother I sometimes wonder when I would make the final decision to move back since I do feel it's the best life experience I could give my kids. Have built a small resthouse by the beach which I'm sure they will love. I can't wait to live a simple yet happy life back there. Be able to do animal and vegetable farming for consumption the rest maybe for profit , be able to see the sunrise and sunset which I don't get to notice here anymore because of too much things to think about. When I saw this video it made me realize what my kids are missing. That someone from America was able to appreciate my homecountry and why do I have to doubt my instinct that life is not about living in a western world which is mostly the goal and pride of some but it's about how you were able to make simple yet lasting good memories. Something my kids could take with them whichever path they choose to take one day. Thank you Cory. Looking forward to your next video. Enjoy ! 🇵🇭

Hi. Its not all roses around the door. Just back from Biliran Island, 10 wks. Poverty very bad. People try rip you off. Travel 150php for locals but 300 for me. Naval, Tacloban and Caibiran very rough places. Lost 3stone in weight due to more healthy eating. BP down and feel more at peace with the world. Had a hard time with litter and rubbish dumped all over the place. Kids begging for food or money. Gave people money, mostly the older people, who lost limbs thru work. Been with my mrs for 4 years. So understand why they are how they are. I loved being in the mountains, Kawayanon. They may be poor but they make the most of it and most happy. Said Maupay nga aga to more people than I wish good morning to at home. Its like anywhere, you need make the most of what you have. Hope to move over fulltime in 2026 Retirement age.

Thank you for this video, Sir. My husband and I used to live in Chicago for 20 yrs. My husband's BP was through the roof then. We worked to pay the bills. We finally moved back to the Phils in 2013, and we live by the beach. Never looked back. We can still eat whatever we want. My husband's BP is normal now. Another reason why I'm happy to see this video is because my American bro-in-law doesn't have the same perpective of the Phil way of life. He looks down on Filipinos, mentions all the time about the Phils being a third world country, and of the USA being the best country. But, lo and behold, he's still here in Neg. I lived in the Philippines for about 3 months at BGC. After about a month, I missed America primarily because of the conveniences and not so perfect order. However, I am a long-term type of person and I really feel the Philippines is heading in the right direction economically. It's almost like during the commonwealth era when the international community started migrating to the islands as it was developing. Here's my prediction (not a financial advise nor fortune teller here) just my own opinion for me: The Philippines will be the center of commerce in Asia within 50 years.

Easy to travel anywhere. Good English environment, the whole year weather is comfortable. Good environment for international school . You can find any kind of countries food here. I think I know what you feel especially after doing the grind for a decade or more. Living in the Philippines has its own setback such as income, healthcare issues, politics and others. However, the biggest selling point of Philippines is the place and very hospitable people. The people there especially in the province treats all foreigners like a special visitor. Let's say you'll spend a night in a friend's house with less then a dollar income; these people will replace their curtains, cook the most fresh food, let you sleep on their best bed (they will sleep on the floor just so you would be comfortable). So for me, living with people in the provinces of Philippines is worth the living even if there are disadvantages.

Nice positive video Cory. I know you spent about $80K building your home in the Philippines but maybe eventually you can do a budget video and your general income sources video. You're too young for Social Security and I'm pretty sure you're not the type to just live off a lump sum savings without a long term plan. I own a paid off horse and llama ranch in Texas and just retired with investments paying $7K monthly without any ranch income. The problem is my blood pressure is really high even with medication. I'm still in America because I have very elderly parents I don't want to be too far away from at this stage of their lives and I'm not convinced I want to let go of my ranch. Letting go of stress sure sounds good though. Finally, please do an update to this video after the rainy season starts in June. 😉

Man, I've got to say, as a man, your work history "challenges" resonated HARD with mine. That last 10 years of my job, I watched it morph from a difficult, but rewarding career to a straight up soul-sucking siege that was grinding away at my psychological and physical health. Luckily, the life-plan I put in place when attending college helped me get through it and stay on course. I'm happy to say I retired two years ago and am living a level of personal freedom that's so empowering and enjoyable, that I really can't articulate it to others...it has to be lived to be understood. That being said, I'm happy for you and, in some fashion, believe I know first-hand what you've sacrificed to be where you are and have achieved what you achieved. Although my life is good, I can't help hoping I could meet a woman as sweet as yours someday and make her my own.

_To speak in general about Filipinas, we are naturally sweet, sensitive, caring, thoughtful, respectful, (very) family-oriented. Most country girls are typically conservative but we can be fun-crazy and playful, too. but of course, we are not alien to mood swings, temper and the likes. i would have to believe though, Filipina or not, women simply reciprocate what men show them. As cringey and cheesy as this may sound, you treat your woman as your queen, your ONLY queen, and she'll make you the happiest king. G'dluck finding your beloved._

Thank you very much and you have a beautiful home country! I enjoy every minute that I’m here. I grew up in Maine and New Hampshire so I know the East Coast very well 🙂

I have lived in cooperate America 🇺🇸 for 40 years as a foreigner. I love ❤️ it, job’s good, money 💴 is good. However, unfortunately my wife passed away 7 years ago, both my children are medical professionals and I have a few more years to retire at age 50 from the city of New York. Fortunately for me, I have no medical problems and no stress. I started going to the Philippines 🇵🇭 about 4 years ago, got married and built a beautiful house 🏡 in the province of Albay. My wife works at the local pharmacy and I travel back and forth. I can definitely relate to your situation and I wish you all the best. Stay safe , I’ll see you in 2 weeks.

Hi, I’m a new sub. I’m enjoying your “Move to the Philippines”journey. I’m glad you found peace and happiness, listening to your story reminded me of the movie, “Rescue from Gilligan’s Island” where everyone finally gets rescued and after living in the city for a short period of time, they become miserable and eventually get stranded again on the same island and they’re all happier than a…… you know what😃

I've been living in the Philippines for about 9 years. About 30+ years ago,I visited the Philippines several times over a period of 5 years,Then another 25 years passed before I could get back here,There wasn't a day that passed that I didn't think about the Philippines and the small amount of time I got to spend here so many years ago. At age 46 I managed to get back here,Met a nice woman and I'm still with her,we live in the Province. I'm not going back to the u.s. to live,I still have kids there 28 and 30 so I will visit. I have mixed feelings about never going back, America was my home,I gave 15 years of my best years to her,I grew up in the forests of Maine And at times I do miss it,But not enough to give up my life here,My wife has been very very good to me,So has her family,of course there are things I don't like about the Philippines,But there were things in America too... Good Luck to you,Life is good,

Looks like you've been through a lot and probably sick of corporate rat race in America. The Philippines isn't perfect, but thanks for considering it your second home. You've just earned another subscriber. Mad respect, stay safe and much love!

I loved hearing your perspective on this. I've also been in the Philippines for 1 month, and my feeling is a bit different. But I've been staying in the city (Cebu City). I've met some great people, but many of them also warn me to be careful of pickpockets in certain areas, they tell me "Don't walk in that neighborhood alone," etc. There are also many beggars here: If I sit at an outdoor table at a cafe, kids will come up and ask for money. Also, I eat a specific diet that is incompatible with almost all Filipino restaurants or street food stalls, so I mostly just eat my own groceries in my room (and to buy those groceries often takes 20+ minutes of standing in line for the checkout in the store). The one gym I found with good equipment near me is crowded all day and doesn't run the A/C high enough. The biggest inconvenience for me is maybe the lack of reliable internet. Usually if I have a 30-minute video call, the connection cuts out for at least a couple minutes during the call. I realize some of those complaints may sound petty or spoiled or whatever, but I'm just being honest that I've found quite a few inconveniences here. Compare that to Thailand, where almost none of those things were issues. They speak less English in Thailand, but otherwise I found it superior in pretty much every way that matters to me. But yeah, it sounds like you really craved that slower pace of life in the province, and you got it. So that's awesome, man, I'm really happy for you. I love the positivity in this video. Now I'm wondering if I'd like the province more or less than Cebu City. I'm guessing some aspects would be better for me, some worse. But overall, I like city energy, I'm not craving that slow life like you (yet!). So, different strokes for different folks!

You're observation is actually right. When it comes to logistics and infrastructure, Thailand is way beyond the Philippines.

I feel ya. I grew up in NYC and left to go to the Rocky Mountain region of the US when my industry left the US for South America many years ago. The solice I could find in the west 35 years ago is now all but gone as I mentally battle the “woke” culture around me. I too look forward to a change of culture and experience for the balance of my life. I have never been to the Philippines but have been to other SE Asians countries. I look forward to exploring more Asian cultures for resettlement for a better quality of life as I have found them to be respectful of others ( in most cases ), surely more welcoming and higher morals and ethics than the US.
