Integrate imagination into every aspect of your life! Channel your potential and convince yourself that reading promotes the flow of complex, entangled information and allows one to think on abstract levels. Constantly question yourself how you would respond to different scenarios in fiction and write them down. Jot down little tidbits of thoughts that cross your mind. Having a thorough, profound knowledge in any subject will allow you to cultivate and harvest more information like bus on a cyclic pattern of a road! Fiction will greatly enhance your thought pattern and understanding of psychological characterisation. Let books and words become a defining part of you. We were born to communicate and create, and currently we must do that more than ever! Carpe diem!

I've always been a reader, but now that I'm in college and taking classes that are actually somewhat challenging I'm really seeing the benefit of having that background in reading. The biggest example is having read so much sci fi, specifically Philip K Dick, has really helped me understand more abstract philosophical material like metaphysics.

This is the exact thing that happened to me, oh my God! I can relate to this on a profoundly deep level! From loving to read fictional books (to the point that I'd read them over and over again because no other books were available) to hating reading for about 4 years or more (from 7th to 11th grade), to slowly getting introduced to personal development books after 11th grade, and actually buying them towards the end of 12th, and now, this is an awesome way to satisfy my curiosity on any topic that I might be interested in! Right now I am in this school type of book-relation state (what a word), feeling kind of stuck with all the books I have to read for school, not leaving enough time for the ones I was actually enjoying during summer break. The good habits I gained during the holidays are gone again and I often end up finding myself not reading at all... However this made me remember how I used to feel about books and motivated me a lot to keep going and try to make more time for personal reading. I think it is worthwhile because it gives an interesting, new, and thorough perspective on success. "My first impression was a very strong one," repeated the prince. "When they took me away from Russia, I remember I passed through many German towns and looked out of the windows, but I didn't trouble myself to ask questions about them. This was after a long series of fits. I would always fall into a sort of torpid condition after such a series, losing my memory almost entirely. Even though I wasn't entirely without reason during these times, I lacked the logical power of thought. This would continue for three or four days, and then I would recover myself again. I remember my melancholy was intolerable; I felt inclined to cry, sat and wondered uncomfortably. The consciousness that everything was strange weighed heavily upon me; I could understand that it was all foreign and unfamiliar. I recall waking up from this state for the first time in Basle one evening; the braying of a book woke me up, a book in the town market. I saw the book and was extremely pleased with it. From that moment on, my mind seemed to clear." "A book? How strange! Yet, it's not so strange. Anyone of us might fall in love with a book! It happened in mythological times," said Madame Epanchin, casting a wrathful glance at her daughters, who had started to laugh. "Please continue, prince." "Since that evening, I've had a special fondness for books. I began to ask questions about them, as I had never seen one before. I immediately came to the conclusion that this must be one of the most useful things-informative, engaging, patient, and inexpensive. Thanks to this book, I started to appreciate the whole country I was traveling through, and my melancholy gradually faded away."

I personally didn't enjoy to read, just like my family. But eventually, I started to read and realized how good it's for me. The school has never been easier, I feel like I can use my brain effectively, I also can analyze a text easier and just overall find learning stuff, even if it's utterly used, I still feel like it's fun to know. This wasn't an easy task, however, It took a lot of hard work because as mentioned before, my parents don't like reading. I started reading books like 47 by Walter Mosley, the water will come by jeff Goodell, then I went into romance and philosophy like Yukio Mishima with "no longer human" as well as "spring snow", and also "stoner" by john Williams which is probably my favorite book. After reading these books I wanted to take an easier approach to read, also because I was at school at the time so I started reading books like "divergent" and "inside the whispers", as well as "Ella minnow pea" which I hated but I'm glad I'm finished with them. After that, I took a more scientific approach with "the sixth enticing", "storm in a teacup", and "survival of the sickets". Right now I'm reading Paul Johnson's book "A history of the American people" and it's pretty good, I highly recommend it if you're a semi-history geek like me. The point of this comment was not to show how many books I've read but instead to show you how you can read many different genres of book, that's what makes them some captivating cause every time you read you're doing something different, it's not the same thing every single time. I get bored easily and reading, although a hard task at first, has actually helped me satisfy my needs for fun.

I had a very similar experience to you. I was an avid reader when I was a child, I devoured Roald Dahl, Jacqueline Wilson, Enid Blyton, pretty much anything I could find. However I am not an analytical reader, I very much read for pleasure or to learn. For the past 6 or 7 years I would read a book every few months, reading between 2 and 10 books a year. At the end of 2019 I go really invested in a YA dystopia series and it kick started my reading journey. I made a pledge that I was going to read 24 books in 2020. It is now the 14th of June and I have read 46 books this year. Reading is now my favourite hobby. I identify as a reader again and it’s been a wonderful journey.

Hmm, good advice. I started thinking of basically everything as a chore when I first got depressed 13 years ago and getting out of that mindset is very hard. I've only recently thought about going back to reading.

Tip about spark notes: do read bits of the books bc esp in discussions you'll need to provide quotes and talk or even write abt specific scenes. It's just choosing those :)
