Jimmy, That’s what I’ve been thinking!! Why shud the world allow that kgb thug get away with a single $ of his ill gotten spoils !! Everything he “ owns “ meaning everything he’s stolen, must be confiscated n given to UKRAINE!!! We can’t claim to be civilized if killers like him get away with it !! But that means pain , energy wise , for many countries, but that’s a price we shud ALL share , to get rid of this murderous thug !!!!
Yes!!! Take the oligarchs money and rebuild Ukraine and help its people. Oh hit them where their heart is,..... their money!!! Make it happen!! WHY NOT???
The state assets were only given to a few people--Yeltsin's friends, then Putin's friends. Easy to make $ when you are given so much wealth that you start on 3rd base.
He was and is a carpetbagger scumbag who made millions off the misery of Russians after the fall of the USSR, and hates Putin because he put an end to the Yeltsin-era free money party. Doesn't make Putin good, but this guy is a real piece of it. Look up his FBI deposition video - he suddenly can't remember anything under oath. If my kid grew up to be Bill Browder, I would be disgusted that I didn't do a better job parenting.
@@janineroux2398 No. I prefer the truth to the lies of a crook. You can continue living with a lie if you prefer. It sometime takes effort to find the truth but easy to blindly accept a lie or propaganda.
pffff, You are obviously a "blue pill" poppin, "kool aid drinking" establishment shill... You have no idea what this shitbag has done and what he represents....GTFOH...
I know about the Magnitski act but I didn't know the story. I'm glad I watched this. We should all be working hard to bring justice for this man. He had more honor in one finger than 99.999 percent of men I know.
I have to say that the title of this exposition is deviating, but this speech is the most clear, assertive and short I've heard of the way about how Russia passed from communism to Putin neo-tsarism. My compliments mr. Browder, you made the point in my opinion.
Especially the part about CUI BONO.......Bill Browder

TRUTH has been under attack for years as Putin and the KGB molded Russia the way they wanted. Lies have been fed to the Russian people for so long they now find the truth very hard to believe! They are mind slaves of Putin!
@ the KGB was dissolved in 1991 and replaced with two different agencies.... While you're talking about "lies being fed", you might want to check the accuracy of what you're spreading around....
God bless Sergei Magnitsky and yourself Mr. Browder, thank you for this story and your bravery. Your both a rare breed and I wish you all the success possible.
Don't forget about Zalinski's corruption. He has pulled the wool over the world's eyes - since he is an Actor, and a very foul-mouthed comedian. He actually took his mother to a show, andt had a very large part of the show about [women's genitalia]. His mother walked out in disgust. That's the kind of guy we are dealing with. Pure corruption, and would turn over his own *mother* for a buck.

You are a man of honour! While Sergei Magnitskys' death is tragic, you have fought for his memory! May the act continue to deprive the wicked of their ill gotten gains.
Mr. Browder is a liar and a fraud. Find "The Magnitsdky Act Behind the Scenes" documentary and read The Komisarscoop report on Mr. Browder. Then read the 15 May 2020 - Australian Citizens Party Media Release to Parliament
What a terrible horrifying story of Sergei Magnitsky. He deserves a hero of the Russia medal! This story demands justice, eg. jail for all Sergei's torturers, his guards, the police who arrested him and most of all, the top brass and Putin who condoned, encouraged or ordered those heinous acts! William Browder, May you succeed beyond your dreams.
I have read Mr Browder's books and was filled with admiration for his determined pursuit of justice, but hearing his voice crack as he tells the story of Mr Magnitsky's fate, even though he must have told it many times before, reveals even more about the quality of both men.
@@christophercolumbus8944No, but he did talk about the Russian propaganda campaign to smear his name, which, to Russians credit, seems to have worked on you.
@@LunaticTheCatgow can you smear a diarrhea ? This guy is massive t*rd, nothing he says is true, every single time a media tried to post a different side of the story filled with factual info he threatened them with a lawsuit
The most important countries to have this law passed on isn't Germany but all the tiny tax havens, like Panama, Isle of Man, Cyprus, Andorra, Monaco, Malta, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Bahamas, Aruba, etc. There's where their money goes to.
I applaud you and Mr Magnintsky for your extreme bravery in exposing Putin and his corrupt oligarchs. Shame on them. The Russian people deserve better. I hope Mr Magnintsky's family will derive some comfort from your heroic efforts to ensure his bravery will never be forgotten.
I'd partly heard of the Magnitsky Act, but never found out it's actual origin. Thank you William Browder for enlightening me about the man who stood up to greed and corruption and paid the ultimate price. Further reading on Sergei reveals he was was born and raised in Odessa in the Ukraine - ironically one of the coastal cities on Putin's current 'must have' list. Sergei Magnitsky was as brave then, as every Ukrainian is being now. How much longer can Putin order - and get away with - the bullying and killing of foreign and Russian innocents? The man is a megalomaniac bully and those who support him are just as complicit. SLAVA UKRAINI.
"How much longer can Putin order - and get away with - the bullying and killing of foreign and Russian innocents?" A little longer, but not too much longer. His reign is coming to an end. The biggest threat remains from Putin is now nuclear.
He'll get away with it for as long as he possibly can; and that will be for as long as those on power can hold onto it. To improve things there will take a greater power, no?
Deadline announced on March 16th "Doug Liman Set To Direct Series Adaptation Of Bill Browder’s Russian-Corruption Book ‘Red Notice.’ I've been watching for this news ever since I read Browder's book. It's an amazing story. I just hope they do it justice.
I knew Magnitsky act , but did not know the full sad story behind that. I wish more people were brave like Browder. You are an inspiration to others and Russian people at this time.
He modestly left out the part where Putin had Interpol put out a Red Notice international arrest warrant on him (as described in his wonderful book “Red Notice” which greatly expands on all this in much more, very interesting, detail).
Journalists talk about the Russian kleptocracy and oligarchs, but Bill Browder makes it understandable with chilling first hand experience. I found his book most compelling.
I just finished his book Red Notice. It describes this story in much more detail. Corruption is the greatest threat to any nation, or organization. I’m awed by Mr Browser’s bravery and unflinching determination to bring justice for his friend Magnitsky and his family and for continuing to fight for meaningful change in the world.
Sebastiaan De Wit Yeah the one that worked for WaPo one of the most prestigious papers in the US. Known for hiring terrorists, especially ones who write about anti-terrorism, because that seems legit. 🙄🙄🙄
Your fake concern for the death of one person is the definition of hypocrisy. Hundreds of thousands of people are killed each year around the world but here you are shedding crocodile tears for one individual. Pathetic
Wonderfully work. I’m so sorry that your lawyer died and for the family and your trauma in that experience. Yes, your work is very worthwhile. And by the way, I lik your speaking style.
Bold man standing in public telling the world what he has done to get justice for his friend. Putin is ruthless and it take a lot of courage. Great talk!
@@eclectictomboy6873 Let's be clear here - since you obviously didn't listen to the timeline of the talk at all - *Browder has a ton more brains and boldness than you'll ever acquire in several lifetimes.* If you're going to comment from the comfort of your armchair ignorance at least comment on the content, substance and context, not on what you 'think' they are.
Thank you. First time I've heard of this but on searching found this about this "The UK Magnitsky Act. It was announced on 6th July 2020 that the UK was to impose sanctions on 49 named individuals including those implicated in the deaths of Magnitsky and Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. It is expected that more names will follow.!
May the latest war crimes against the Ukrainians be the impetus to awake the whole world to the horrible actions of the Putin regime. May he be held accountable and may justice be served. 🙏
@@ihs51 Yes, they were. Refer to the Chilcot Inquiry. And do you think there will ever be a similar inquiry in Russia on Putin's wars in Georgia, Chechnya, Crimea, Donbas, Syria or Ukraine?
Why do people suffer for telling the truth? Because honest people hate dishonesty, and dishonest people are afraid of being exposed. "The righteous detest the dishonest; the wicked detest the upright." (Proverbs 29: 27). What happens when a corrupt person becomes a country's leader? The country falls apart. "By justice a king gives a country stability, but those who are greedy for bribes tear it down." (Proverbs 29: 4). What can be done about Russia? Easy. Get rid of corruption, starting at the top. "When the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding; but when the wicked perish, the righteous thrive." (Proverbs 28: 28).

A story of a great man, two great men, but Achilles's heel? It's been many years since the Magnitsky Act has been passed and the truth is it did little to stop or destroy Putin. Looking at what is happening in Ukraine, I dare to say, the Magnitsky Act did nothing to stop Putin. Mich more aggressive intervention was needed. So, no, it's not dictators' Achilles's heel. Just a little inconvenience.
Surely you are not suggesting that individuals should not act justly? These 2 men & the Magnitsky Act don't constitute the totality of The West's reaction. I suppose 'Achille's heel' is not the appropriate descriptor. What would Putin's Achilles heel look like to you?
I remember how embarrassed I was, as a kid, watching Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz apologizing on TV for her grandfather having been a member of the Communist Party in the 1930s. That was the McCarthy Era.
What an extraordinary story and courageous man. His death is now commemorated in the legislation that was used to impose the sanctions against those criminal Oligarchs feeding Putin. Australia passed a similar legislation just in the nick of time in December 2021.
What is this umbrella you speak of? Do you condone Putin's murder of Magnitsky? It's not clear from your comment, Comrade. Do Svidanya, Solidny Chelovik!
@@teslastellar yeah none of the other hundred Ted talks actually teach you anything. It's not like it's a platform for discussion and exploration on various subjects or anything.
I had heard of the name, but never knew the whole story- so thank you so much for spelling out the horrors that Sergei had to bear, and we needed this huge reminder of who putin really is - and hopefully the need for his complete removal from power, and his actual 'rewards' for all of this horror. So many ruined lives, so many decent people trying to get it right - we all know it is not the Russian people, but without standing up to the tyrants, things never change.
Yes it is the russian people. It's not putin shelling hospitals and theatres, not putin driving over civilian cars with families inside, not putin shooting children. This is all done by russian hands. Government is a reflection of society's values, war is a collective responsibility. There's a reason why many companies leave russia - over 70% of russians support the war in Ukraine. If you don't believe me, talk to an average russian. You'll be shocked just how barbaric their thinking is. Constantly living in the past glory of a big empire, wanting to revive that. They don't define greatness as being democratic, not having a dictator, and connecting with other counties. They define greatness as having the will to attack other countries and expand territory. Please never say that again - "it's not the russian people". It is, they are.
Outstanding! I did not realize what this was even about until the story was well advanced. It was fascinating to hear the "behind-the-scenes" information about what happened. I listen to TED Talks pretty frequently, every day if I can. It's a really worthwhile use of my time.
Red Notice is amazing. Now he's written a follow-up story... 'Freezing Order: A True Story of Money Laundering, Murder, and Surviving Vladimir Putin's Wrath.' It just came out and I'll be reading it soon.
@@Bargerland Agreed! Just finished reading Freezing Order. Pre-ordered it and devoured it in the past couple of days.. As page-turning as Red Notice. Everyone needs to read Browder's two books to understand just how amoral and brutal Putin is.
@@SueFerreira75 I brought Red Notice to the hospital when my dad was admitted. He snuck it away from me and wouldn't let it go. At 96 years old, the story had him hooked. It was the last book my father read which was a little sad for me. He had a dear friend in Russia, and I'm sure it broke his heart. --- sorry, too much information.
@@Bargerland: I smiled when I read your story; not too much information at all! I can see your dad, in bed, gripping the book (that he stole from you! 😊), and as sad for him as the tale may have been, there is real joy in being utterly engrossed in a good book. Good for him! Yours is what you call a good story, mate, happy and sad at the same time. Lovely.
1,600+ thumbs down? Must be the "bad guys" :) Very good work here by William Browder to honor his friend and to stick it to the oligarchs around the world!
It's frustrating, for sure. I'm assuming partisans found the video and have somehow determined that Browder's experience with Putin and the Russian government is a fabrication.
Russia has been waging virtual war on the west for years, with cyberattacks, social media disinformation campaigns and botnets (no doubt including ones that mass upvote or downvote posts), state-sponsored propaganda, political manipulation (including supporting trump and other corrupt autocrats around the world), and targeted assassinations of defectors. Zillions of fake accounts commenting endlessly on stories like this run by disinformation officers in Russia is a big part of this.
This was an incredible story and I am glad the name of that lawyer is now set in stone. It is tragic how he had to die to get there. I hope Mr. Browder took care of his family, and I want to believe he did. Very sad and beautiful story.
I agree w you Simone Mr Browder dedicated his life to honor that poor man I heard about the Magniski Act but never knew the story I like you am so moved We need stories like Mr Browders to remind us their is good and Greatness in our world
There's a book he wrote called The Red Notice. It's not the same as the Netflix show... His family was present in Washington when they passed the law and I believe they are out of Russia and Bill definitely helped them out. It's been a few years since I read the book.
@@altgenesis Much more interresting: What did putin do for his family? Did he help support the lawyers family? Why did he do what he did? Putin knows about this, why? Because he knows about the Magnitsky Act.
@@altgenesis Yes he did. To this day he is friends with the family and together they keep trying to uncover the corruption. You claim he took all the money out of Russia. Where is your proof? Do you have access to his accounts? To start a hedge fund you need capital. The fund was started with foreign investors who put money into Russia. When he liquidated his Russian assets, he just recovered his investors money. You need to look at the Russian Oligarchs and Putin to find out who is taking money out of Russia.
I just finished his book, Red Notice, and just started his second one, Freezing Order. If you want a much more comprehensive understanding of how Russia really works and how it got that way I recommend these two, starting with Red Notice. Freezing Order is a second part. Bill Browder is my new hero.
Thanks, grabbing book #2 today from the library, and almost finished with #1. One of the most equally fascinating and disturbing true stories on the planet!
All dictatorships work like this. Hungary, Turkey too - this practice is present within the EU and NATO. This is not even about these particular dictators - Putin, Orban, Edogan - but the systematic failure that gives them the opportunity to own whole countries and their total wealth. You can kill them, remove them, and someone else will just take their place. That 2 terms maximum is a very wise rule of democratic countries. Anyone exceeding that I would immediately consider a Tyrant and deal with him accordingly.
Bill Browder is again currently active to damage putin, during his illegal Ukraine war invasion. Even now in 2022, Mr. Browder is rallying European & Western nations to enact new legislation to seize money and assets (luxury mansions, yachts, etc.) from Russian billionaires who secretly hold much of putin's money. He's brave, and a defender of justice. Bravo to Mr. Browder!
There is another outstanding interview of Bill Browder with Jonathan Fink on Silicon Curtain. Mr Browder still suffers tremendous guilt over Mr Magnitskey's demise. Bill Browder is a determined and courageous man of quality.
Mr Magnitsky is a man of honour, strength and courage. Few people could ever take that amount of torture for so long and have kept their grit. This fellow should have been the most honoured Hero of Russia.
I knew the full story before watching by having read his excellent book *Red Notice: A True Story of High Finance, Murder, and One Man's Fight for Justice* ; yet I had to fight back tears.
@Pool Bal that's your fear and belief. Some think wealth will allow humanity to solve climate change and over population problems. Truth is, no one knows. So far, we did solved hard problems with food and crops production with tech and science (which are tied to wealth) allowing population growth to previously unsustainable levels. We could have tried to limit wealth out of the same fears back at the day, not sure it would have been the right choice to make. It's comes to progressive vs conservative dilemma: should we risk the change?
Mr. Browder is a hero for so much folks but also for his lawyer, I hope he has helped his lawyers family with lots of money because they need it and helped them get out of Russia.
