gear efficiency is everything!
The order in which you pack gear and how you pack it makes a huge difference in tearing down and setting up camp after a long day of hiking.
I have watched so many gear videos as well as videos similar to this, so I wanted to combine the knowledge I gained from all of those into one concise and short video.
how do you pack your gear differently and what do you like about it?

very good and helpful vid teaching the mentality of where to place items and why

Great video! One thing I don’t understand that I see many hikers do, and that’s combine their hygiene and ditty items into one sack. I carry a tiny bottle of DEET, a tiny bottle of hand soap, and a tiny bottle of sunscreen (~2-fl. oz. each). I also have tiny toothpaste, a tiny toothbrush and toilet paper and wet wipes. I wouldn’t want any of those items anywhere near my electronics such as my battery bank. I enjoy having a separate sack for hygiene that I just grab and go, be it for cleaning up at the end of the night away from camp or when nature calls.

Thanks! Yeah I totally agree. I used to keep my sunscreen and soap in my ditty bag until my soap bottle leaked. I was brushing my teeth with soap for a week... it was not the greatest haha Now it's just hygiene and first aid stuff in my ditty bag and that works out really well!

@@StephenOutside Where does your battery bank and associated cordage go?
@StephenOutside
@StephenOutside Год назад
@@SophisticatedDogCat I keep my electronics in a quart sized Ziploc bag (I got the idea from JupiterHikes). Since it's clear, you can see everything inside it which is nice. And my electronics bag goes inside my pack liner to stay dry

So you never need your layers or food before camp?
@StephenOutside
@StephenOutside 10 месяцев назад
Yeah so in the morning I'll put food and snacks for the day in the bottom pocket. Snacking while hiking is super easy that way hahah. And for layers I keep a wind jacket in the front pocket. It keeps me decently warm on cold mornings as long as I'm moving

I don’t know how tall you are, but the shortie air pad makes for not the best sleep. I’m 5’5’, so I can tolerate it, but if you are taller, I would just invest in the regular size pad as you will sleep so much better.

I'm surprised it works for me so well. I'm 5'10" so I guess I got lucky. I want to try a full luxury sleep setup and see what I'm missing out on though

@@StephenOutside You can also go halfway with the women’s NeoAir- 5.4 R value and about 5’6”, but you have to shop around as it’s discontinued. Comfy and warm. For the shortie, take an Aeros 2 oz. Pillow - you can extend the pad that way as needed.

Did you get the rolled or folded gossamer gear pad?
@StephenOutside
@StephenOutside Год назад
I got the folded so it could stow flat against my back and add cushion. But I started using it throughout the day as a sit pad which is why I now roll the pad and store it on top

Which sleeping pad did you use in this video?
@StephenOutside

It's the Therm-a-rest NeoAir XLite (size small or torso sized)

Oof, sorry about that. It's the on-board mic, I'll upgrade it for future videos!

I absolutely love this backpack. I might do a video about it but there's already a ton haha
@vagabondwildernesswanderings
Do you carry any kind of satellite messenger?
@StephenOutside

I do not, but I will probably buy one soon. I've always hiked with other people on popular trails so the risk has been pretty low
