Im 33 and started working on these things about a year ago. I would say I have definitely seen my face changing for the better over the last year. So don’t loose heart if you are hearing this a bit later in life.
@@0700083edu Dr. Mew has also stated that even above 25 there is still some change happening when adhering to the techniques. You can see the results of his patients on his channel :)
I'm way past twenties. Am 44 and already seeing great results after only 6 weeks of persistent, dedicated, daily work. You can too. Was a mouth breather as a kid. No one ever told me these things. Changed my life.
What video did you use to figure out the position? I've tried to do it but can't tell if it's correct. Visually, everything looks the same, but inside my mouth, I can't stop salivating, which is extremely uncomfortable.
I'm 27 F and have always described my jaw line like melting! No one before understood what I meant but someone finally gets it. Thanks for the tip, will start mewing!!
I do not recommend chewing gum ! , every time you chew it automatic release saliva and hydrochloric acid in your stomach .If you dont have any food in your stomach it will eventually go to ulcer or other stomach problems , like acid reflux etc.Exercises are the best way for a strong jawline for now !
@@alexxenaosas2416 I meant exercises, I also try to chew gum more but only after eating :), the minty ones make the mouth feel cleaner so that's an added bonus, almost like cleaning teeth xd I already have acid reflux problems though, used to have gastritis. Thanks for caring and giving info:)
@@alexxenaosas2416 it takes around 2 16 pack gum sticks for that to be a risk and if its a problem you can just eat before or after so gum is still a viable option ive been chewing a bunch for a couple months now and i see a big improvement in my jawline
You don't need to be under 25 for this. I'm 30+ now, kind of started doing tis (not consistently) less than five years ago, and there's still improvement.
@@BrettMaverick How to get into modeling / find your own niche in modeling would be very helpful. Also what agencies are looking for and what you can improve/ do specifically for that goal
I am 15 and I recently started mewing. I knew about mewing because of your channel which I am grateful for. Thanks for giving us amazing tips to better ourselves and overall appearance.
As a 15-year-old, I saw one of his videos and heard of mewing. I used to breathe through my mouth as a kid, and my facial development was quite bad, like a true nerd with a long face syndrome and mouth breathing symptoms lol. As a 16-year-old, my jawline and face have gotten much better now that my tongue is always on the roof of my mouth, my posture is straight, and my breathing is through my nose. I'm really grateful that I learned about this early. Keep it up Bret!
Sameeee I started at 15 and in not even a year I got a way better jawline. I didn't have one at all before and now I have a decent one. It'll prob get better in time tho bc I'm young and growing.
What's really weird is as a kid I was a heavy mouth breather but I got pretty lucky because I never had a receding chin. In fact I have a concave profile.
I started mewing around when I turned 14, it turned out to be one of the best decisions i've made. Mewing is the kind of thing that you don't need time for, you can just do it, and there's no reason why not to.
@@clickbait1379 Mewing isn't an exercise like in the gym. You don't do it x amount of time per day or do x amount of "reps". You should be mewing constantly and it should be a permanent change for the rest of your life
mewing is also what speech therapists teach you when you have a lisp. Usually they also give you exercises to strengthen your facial and tongue muscles, which is especially helpful for people who lack the strength to correctly mew.
I am 24 years old, heard about mewing in May this year, I started mewing, I have an assymetrical facial structure, breath through my mouth, slept with my mouth open and even unconsciously found my mouth open during the afternoon, also assymetrical dental fomula and a receding chin. First 3 days into mewing where the hardest It hurt, my jaw and neck hurt, I had breathing issues since I used to breath through my mouth and kept waking up at night to correct my tongue posture. It was hard! Next days after it got easier, I was determined to mew day and night so I did just that. 4 months into mewing, I started seeing a noticeable change my face started becoming symmetrical, my teeth got better, my mouth was always closed during the day( still struggling at night but it got so much better) , the receding chin had not changed but I started seeing a jaw line forming. 5 months into mewing: my friends started asking what I have been doing to my face because I am getting prettier, my mouth is always shut even at night, mewing is effortless now, I nose-breath even while exercising, the facial assymetry is almost negligible now! I love the results. It's gonna be a life-long practice I will update whenever I remember. Age does factor into mewing but If you are older it just means it'll take more time for you to see results not that it won't happen at all. I am getting my entire family into mewing especially my younger siblings, they'll thank me later.
I’ll be 24 in less than a month and I was kinda upset that I only have 1 year to upgrade my face lol recently my husband and I were taking a look on some pictures of us on our teenager years and we noticed that I had a very defined jawline, I still have an ok jawline but not as defined. Watching this video I realized that I’ve changed some habits and now I only breath to my mouth (changing this right now). My husband has only breath to his nose his entire life and he has Superman’s jawline, it’s crazy. I’m starting today and I hope I can get as much improvement as you got. As long as beauty procedures are not required to my improvement I’ll do it the natural way
He literally shows pictures of himself in his other videos when he was young. He doesn’t show them because he had a good jawline in them. He never had a poor jawline like he claimed.
34 now found out about it when i was 32. never been regular mewer but still works. the bone on the roof of your mouth has cracks like your skull does and you can expand it even later in life.
Another Mewing video… what the thousands of youtubers who make videos about mewing don’t tell you is that mewing only makes a difference if you do it as a kid. Grown men cannot change the shape of their jaw bones. Yes, you can build the muscles around your jaw by chewing more, but the breathing, tongue posture, etc, only influences the shape of your jaw bone if you do it as a kid.
I think a big reason why you were able to have such an amazing results was because you figured all this out so young. You weren’t even done growing yet. The bones in your face still had time to reset and you probably hadn’t even grown into your true face yet. Most people don’t realize they have a problem with mouth breathing until they’re in their 20s or even 30s and by then a lot of damage has been done. They’re not gonna get the same kind of crazy result as you did.
@@xmzruNo, do it because its good for your health but its over ur too old ur skull stop growing earliest 18 latest 25 If ur skull didnt stop growing than you may be able to see sum changes also if it hasent stop BOOST your production of HGH that will really help grow ur skull forward but as always good tongue posture so it grows forward instead of backward
When I was young my mother told me to breath thought my nose and got mad when I didn't. I never understood why until now. This video probably isn't where she got it from but I'm happy she told me to.
Maybe this solution is more useful for mouth breathers, no so much for nose breathers. That doesn't nullify the effect of this. If a drug doesn't work for you, it doesn't mean it doesn't work for everyone.
I'm 28 and have been a mouthbreather for most of my life. I consider my jawline okay but not as masculine as humanly possible. Didn't even realize what I was doing wrong until I was in my 20s when I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Just discovered mewing and other channels on RU-vid talking about tongue posture, nose breathing, chewing hard gum, etc. For those of us who are older than 25, use me as a guinea pig. Reply to my comment in 6 months, or a year, or several years, and ask me if my jawline has improved. Wish me luck! FIRST UPDATE: 2023-03-22 After chewing lots of gum, for 2-4 hours a day 5 days a week, I started having TMJ issues with my right jaw. Makes it a little painful chewing. Have to chew on the left side mostly. Also having right ear pain. Probably going to have to see the doctor if it doesn't clear up soon. SECOND UPDATE: 2023-05-04 I haven't had jaw pain for at least a week. The TMJ issue was most severe for the first week or two, became mild in the third week, and was barely noticeable. Never went to the doctor about it. Cleared up on its' own. Did not mew much during this time, but briefly I did on occasion. THIRD UPDATE: 2023-06-21 Started mewing again, on occasion. Not constant due to the issues I had last time. Stopped chewing gum completely. Seems like my enormous dinners that take 30+ minutes to chew are enough for my masseter muscles already. Minimal noticeable jawline improvement thus far from mewing, however losing 50 lbs these last 5 months has made my facial structure much more angular and less "round". Will continue to update when ppl remind me! FOURTH UPDATE: 2023-07-18 Having lost a lost of weight recently, about 55 lbs, I cannot tell for certain what has contributed to any possible changes with my jawline more, the weight loss or the mewing. Any changes are subtle. Nothing significant thus far. FIFTH UPDATE: 2023-11-15 Down 65 lbs, my face is much less round. Got an X-ray and MRI of my skull done, turns out I have craniofacial deficiency as the right side of my face is 2mm shorter and narrower than the left side of my face. Doctors are determining what surgery to perform to fix it. Should cure my sleep apnea and make me more attractive. Orthognathic surgery, double osteotomy, not sure what comes next. Will update if the surgery doesn't kill me.
I had a disfunctional nose until I was 18. Basically impossible to breath normally through my nose all my life. Parents didn't really think it was a problem until we visited a doctor when I was 17 and they found out I had bone and cartilage blocking my airways thus making it super narrow. Now im 20, have a mouth breather face but at least I can breath through my nose now...
@@sigmaeastwood9558 yeah I was getting worried when I first started looking into mewing and stuff cus I saw it was targeted at kids and not really teens - so glad I found this channel. Also getting braces soon which will surely help too.
@@sigmaeastwood9558 true - ill just need to wait and see - was told that with the way my teeth are rn I shouldn't really need braces for that long - mainly just to straighten up the bottom teeth. Ty for all the support bro
Definitely recommend breathing strips for you guys struggling to breath through your nose. Vicks vapor rub also helps open up your nasal passage ways to improve breathing
It’s not necessary By breathing through your nose your training the nose to open up and not be closed so within a day of nose breathing it should be clear
@@TrippieMint Some of us haven't been able to breathe through our nose in years! Severe nasal allergies, have tried everything. Deviated septum narrow passages in my nose, genetic - Grandma, Dad, and I all have it. Flonase everyday for a decade, Azelastine for 8 years, allergy medicine for 25 years. Allergy shots for 5-6 years. Neti pot, saline solution, have tried it all. Have had a dozen doctors look in my nose and ask are you sure you're using the Flonase everyday correctly? Yes Allergy and asthma doctor taught me the correct way to use it.
@@eternalgeminiro I thought I was the only one. My allergies and asthma got a little better as I grew up, but they come back when triggered. My little brother doesn’t have allergies and has a chiseled jawline so I know genetically it was possible for me to get the same. However, all that time of me having to mouth breathe because I literally couldn’t breathe from my nose inhibited my jawline from reaching its genetic potential. What makes matters worse is during my childhood & teenage summer breaks I had to help my father work in his lawn maintenance business so I was constantly exposed to things that caused my allergies lol. That plus the physical labor gave me no choice but the mouth breathe so I wouldn’t pass out in the hot weather. My jaw isn’t recessed which I am thankful for but it isn’t chad-like. I’m not sure mewing will help me anymore since I am over 21 now but at least I plan to get rhino-septoplasty within the next few years to fix my deviated septum and the appearance of my crooked nose.
Good call 👍 In addition the toughness. As it enters the mouth it's very tough. But once it's chewed and reached the temperature of the mouth it's definitely not 10-15 times tougher than normal gum. Id say it's maybe 20-30% tougher
I've consciously breathed through my nose for decades. Chewed gum since I was a teen. Genetics are a big part of this at the end of the day. You can improve what you have but not everyone is going to have a jawline like this guy from doing these things.
The proper tongue posture works only if you have a wide enough palate to place your tongue at the roof of your mouth. If your palate is too narrow you need to expand it to make room for your tongue. Then it will be much easier to mew. I am expanding using a homeoblock which is a removable palate expander
So, I find it very interesting "Mewing" was discovered by orthodontists. I had braces for 6 years; from the beginning of 6th grade to the end of 12th grade. Most of my friends only had them between a few months to 2 years tops. I didn't know why I was kept on them, other than the consistent thought my orthodontist was breadcrumbing and scamming my parents (which could still be the truth). After a few months of braces my teeth were perfectly straight with braces on. This is coming from me having Buckteeth in the front since 2nd grade. It wasn't until I was about to graduate high school that my mom was trying to get the orthodontist to simply take my braces off because of how much it cost my parents by then - One day during my senior year, his assistant just said, "You only have an underbite; we've been trying to get rid of that for 4 years". I (uninformed high school kid) didn't exactly know what that all meant and it wasn't until his assistant demonstrated with a skull that my jaw was pushed back too far and that unless I had my jaw further, I couldn't get my braces off (again, sounds like a deliberate scam). It wasn't until she showed me physically what needed to be done that I was like "Okay, so basically I just need my chin to be further ahead and you'll take my braces off?" So throughout the day every day, I would just do this thing where I put my bottom teeth in front of my top teeth for a few seconds. I guess this was technically "Mewing". Well, guess what? A month later I went back and the assistant was in awe at how much improvement happened with my jawline. Another month later, my braces were off and they were astounded that so much improvement happened in 2 months. I spell bullshit for what they did; I consistently faced gatekeeping from people trying to extract money from me or my family throughout my life - and I still do, but I'm just glad it's all fucking over. I hated my orthodontist from the day I met him; all he ever did was boast about his convertible, and 6 fucking years is absolutely a scam on my parents; especially when it was something the orthodontist could've described directly to me in order to avoid such a lengthy and expensive process. And of course, they threw in the "HE NEEDS A RETAINER" crap at my mom, so she paid for a retainer and gave the orthodontist the middle finger directly to his face as we walked out of there - $10,000 for a horrible experience and what feels like an indirect life lesson about how everyone you seek help from has it out to hurt you. If I ever need orthodontic assistant ever again, I'm going for Invisaligns. If I have kids and they need it, they're getting Invisaligns and I'll teach them every lesson I had to learn the hard way.
Also a mouthguard helped A LOT. There's a difference between a swollen jaw and a defined jaw. It helped me breathe through my nose and helped contour my jaw more.
WARNING!! If you eat gum then you're going to tell your stomach to release acid, bile and insulin in preparation to receiving food. If you want to chew something then I would recommend Mastic gum that will at least help with digestion otherwise I would recommend a jaw exerciser that costs a couple of bucks not a ridiculous $18
stick to it, if anything double down on time and hardness of gum chewing, sometimes it takes a little longer but when it does happen you can almost see yourself morphing in real time and chicks love that.
That’s because Brett actually has the genetics, like most kids they didn’t have it before puberty, but he clearly has the genetics. He’d have it if he did nothing too.
Cope. Back in the way everyone had a defined jaw, before soft foods and too much time indoors leading to mouth breathing. Also if you look at isolated tribes today they all have defined facial structure so much so that they all look very similar.
I have anxiety and noticed focusing on these helps! Its funny bc i watched to help tighten my neck as im getting older. I had no clue there was a proper tongue posture!
damn, I used to have a receded chin, and I thought I was really ugly because of it. Somehow I subconsciously just started doing all of the things mentioned in this video when I was younger. I got my adenoids removed at 14, and started breathing through my nose. I loved chewing gum (and still do occasionally), I swallow properly, and I wasn't even thinking about it until it was mentioned in the video but my tongue is always pressed to the roof of my mouth. Nowadays I get complements on my sharp jawline all the time.
Orthotropics has been largely disproven. We learn about this in dental school. You can modify growth but once you are done growing little change will happen to skeletal structure. Almost all modification potential is also in the maxilla, the mandible you cant really change. A better approach is using dental appliances before/during puberty.
It's time to get rid of this slightly receded chin and fluffy cheeks. I'm trying to finally love myself after the long years of depression accompanied by weeks of not cleaning myself totally. Wish me luck.
I’m a life-long mewer, I guess. Ever since I can remember it was just the position my tongue was in. Felt natural. (Every time I comment on stuff like this, people think I’m lying or bragging LMAO, but it’s true) as a lifelong “mewer” I’m not planning on giving up my “mewing” habit. I like what it did for my jawline but there are some things to be aware of. Fist and foremost, DONT keep your tongue pressed on your front teeth. I genuinely didn’t know that other people didn’t keep their tongue on the roof of their mouth. It was just something that always like a neutral mouth position to me. Ever since early childhood my tongue, from back to front is always “swallowed” against the roof of my mouth. In my experience it doesn’t take conscious muscle tension. Just swallow until your tongue is on the roof of your mouth, and keep your mouth closed I guess? It’s not necessarily an exercise. It’s just a posture. I find my mouth is often dry because I naturally swallow more, and I have less room in my mouth for spit. But whenever I try not “mewing” my mouth just feels wetter and gross because I’m not used to it.. so I “mew.” Practice good oral hygiene. Dryness can be bad for your teeth. It also sometimes makes me breathe louder. It just doesn’t feel natural to me to rest my tongue on the bottom of my mouth. When I mouth breathe (not something that can always be avoided, such as when you’re physically exerted or your nose is stuffed up) my tongue just won’t get out of the way. The back of my tongue is still flexed, but just enough to let air through. People say to me “can you breathe quieter please??” 😡 Then I try breathing through my nose some more, and the struggle is even louder. My entire life, I’ve always been the “slow eater.” and everyone would wonder “what the hell is taking you so long?!” I never had any idea. Until I realized my “problem” was that I was the one who swallowed their food correctly. So be prepared to either annoy your friends or take leftovers home. Dont develop a habit of keeping your tongue between your upper and lower teeth where it can be bitten. You can hurt yourself. Also since I have to “swallow my my tongue” against the roof of my mouth, I do swallow more often than most people. I developed a nervous habit of swallowing too loudly (if you don’t have anxiety you don’t have to worry about it.) I’ve had people look at me and say “what the hell is that noise?” 🙄 When I first found out about “mewing,” and there aren’t other people who naturally keep their tongue on the roof of their mouth I was kind of shocked. 😆 I’m kind of glad I have the habit because I like what it does for my jawline. More often than not, when I tell people I’m 32 they look surprised and they’ll say “I thought you were MUCH younger.” Probably because I have a tight jawline. If mewing is for you, give it a try. After a while it’ll start to feel natural I guess? Not trying to talk anyone out of it. I’m just saying that once it’s a habit it feels more natural that resting your tongue on the bottom of your mouth. It can make a difference for your jawline. But there are positives and negatives. Don’t get discouraged though. I know that’s a lot. I’m still trying to figure out how “mewing” has affected my life, and how it can affect yours. I’m not giving up the habit LMAO.
I swear i read the whole thing and it was very informative. But the way you talk is so annoying. It just feels like i want you to shut the f up or tell it to somebody that can retell it to me without all this “lmaos, i know, jezus me i am great inam unique crap”
I’m not a mouthbreather always breathed through my nose, my jawline is weak… this is bs if you think you gonna get some mad jawline… it’s your bone structure that mainly determines it, genetics…
The only issue with chewing tough gum is your not doing it bilaterally. Both sides at the same time. The jaw is a hinge joint, both sides opening and closing at the same time. If you place a wedge (gum) under one side and not the other you are causing an asymmetrical movement. That’s going to cause jaw pain and improper movement.
Come on Man! You were born with well defined jawline naturally...there is less evidence to prove what you recommend,,,no offense but I'd rather visit some of the best Surgeons for jawline and chin enhancement
Unfortunately its not possible when you dont have a decent one. There are 4 or 5 factors thats gonna fck up you jawline. 1.Genetic fat underneath your jaw. 2. Genetic excess skin on the jaw. 3.small jaw. 4.weird jaw posture. 5. Big neck. Well if you have one or two of these problems you can adjust it still. But i fuckn myself have all of them.
I just turned 28 and just discovered this topic! I’ve been insecure about my receding jaw line whole life. I hope it’s not too late for me. I’ve never been a mouth breather though. But I do sleep with my mouth open a lot. Lol Thanks for the info!!
@@centipedekid9824false. You will see changes in your face if you exercise it. The bones in your face are not fused together either therefore it is possible to adjust their position. Any amount of resistance put on a humans skeletal structure over a period of time will encourage increased or maintained bone density. Weight training is a good example.
I know how to mew and to suck my tongue over the roof of my mouth whenever i remember it but my problem is I've been mewing for almost a year know but not all day just whenever i remember it and i didn't notice a change of my face and my jaw looks the same and I'm not fat 5'10 66kg

Idk man, I think it’s just genetics. My brothers and I all have strong jawlines and if you look at my parents and their families they all have strong jaws too. I don’t think anyone put effort into figuring out how to breathe right or swallow properly lol
I think bc u were a perfect nose breather but same both of my parents have perfect jawline n chin even my siblings it turned out that I was a mouth breather n my jaw didn’t grow as well as my siblings n what I noticed that my parents they r perfect nose breather that’s why I believe with mewing as long as ur in puberty it will definitely work for u
i had 8 teeth retracted when I was in middle school/high school. with headgear that pushed my jaw back causing me to have a small airway. thankfully i have a strong jawline. My current dentist is trying to undo the damage by pushing everything forward again and opening up my airway aka ORTHOTROPICS. ALSO WAS RECOMMENDED orofacial myofunctional therapy. Tongue placement, nasal breathing, etc. all CHANGE THE WAY YOU BREATHE and in turn improves facial aesthetics. Your oral habits since birth (i.e. breastfeeding, how you breathe and eat growing up) will affect the way your face looks in the future. GREAT VIDEO!
He's definitely right about the gum, also tough candy or food, by making multiple chewing. Another method is flexing your jawline around, especially for boxing. You can also use a plastic teeth for boxing which you can grind you teeth on.
I have been a natural nose breather andre I have been doing mewing naturally since I was young. I have no better jaw line than any of you watching this video.

7:50 the best technique for this is to actually smile and then swallow atleast for most people this is easier bc it leaves ur tongue in the exact position other than just swallowing which is hard to remeber where it was
Going to the gym and drinking enough water everyday gives a good jaw neck area. Your jaw neck area holds water last when dehydrated. If you got a six pack your jaw line is probably nice. If you're fat its prob round and fat.
In combination with harder food to chew, I also think people had much better posture earlier because they were sleeping on harder surfaces, as well as not beeing so hunched over for hours like we are today😉
I had a chin implant. I was told there was a chance of numbness because they have to lift a nerve up to get the implant in. My chin and lower lip is numb for the past 13 years and will be for life.
Hi Brett. You mentioned in earlier videos that chewing gum can cause TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Disorders), but now you are selling gum. what changed ?
Guys, I'm just going to rip the bandaid off any give it to you straight. If you have a recessed jawline, the ONLY way you can fix this is by getting jaw surgery or implants. You can't just magically make bone grow or move once you're an adult. And honestly, mewing is a meme at this point. Don't waste your time and get jaw surgery like I did; it made a massive difference that mewing never could.
Hey man thanks for sharing. Did you get a La Forte? Thinking about an MSE for maxillary expansion in order to breath better and then a surgery to fit it all together. How were the breathing gains with the surgery?
@@eh7141 I got MSE and lefort 2 (maxilla and mandible are both moved forward. You can also just get a sliding genioplasty which is where they just move the mandible (this is less invasive). I would recommend that you also get a jaw implant after moving the jaw forward. That’s how I have such good forward growth (as you can see from my pic) OR you can wait 7 years because I’m a first year plastic surgery resident hahaha.
