I trim my locs every 2 years and use those trims to repair weak locs

Also if you hold the hook perpendicular to the loc and go in from the side around the loc you can compact it to the same width as the rest. Since you can rejoin locs that fall off, you don't actually have to buy hair unless you want the length. You can pinch the thin section, fold it up or down over on to the thick section and crochet it together. This will pull the two thick sections above and below the thin area together. Hope that was clear! 🤗 Your locs are lovely! Good luck, Oh and make sure the thimble fits well!

Thank you, that does make a lot of sense! Unfortunately I had tossed a lot of the thinning parts that I cut off so I will have to use human hair to add some length to my super short locs in the back. But I will do that in the future!

Heyyy. 😊Do you have a video of you doing this? or are you just finding videos and correcting people on their techniques?

Thanks for sharing! Adding human hair adds weight to your individual locs ( it’s difficult to notice the difference especially since your locs are long). Please update us in the future on the pros and cons🤎🤎🤎

Thanks, I will...I honestly haven't noticed a difference in weight so far, maybe becomes I'm using so very little of it, but maybe that will change with time

I love your locs!! I used a similar method to extend the length of my permanent loc extensions :-)

I'm glad to discover this 3.5 years in. On my first set of locs I kept cutting my hair at the point they were thinning. I lost so much hair!! P.S. your locs are gorgeous!

Hi, thanks! I showed the end product on the half of my hair that was already done, and also showed what it looked like after I'd completed the one loc. So yea it basically looks like that for now. After I have it in for some time, I'll be able to share more about how it holds up long term.

Cool technique. I was thinking, the thinning locs may be because of the shampoo that you are using. I have long locs too. I went through a time when my locs began to thin. I discovered that my shampoo was causing my locs to shed from the inside out. Needless to say, I stopped using the shampoo. The other thing I recognize that was causing my locs to thin was not being able to wash all the product from my hair. What I mean is even from the inner core of the loc. I started washing my locs by submerging my head with locs in a large container of water. I squirt shampoo, not alot, in a filled container tub of water. Immerse my locs into water and squeeze up and down the length. Then for scalp I put my head in water while turning it from side to side while rubbing scalp while submerge in the water. Then i dump water out and fill up with clean water to rinse. Lastly go under shower to rinse. Making those two changes eradicated my thinning locs problem. I use Dr Woods mild Castile soap for shampoo. And for conditioner I oil my scalp with jojoba oil and spray the length of my locs with a mixture of half rose water, 1/2 of 1/2 jojoba oil and 1/2 of 1/2 vitamin e oil. I dont use any other product in my hair. For me I find that less is better.

Be very careful w/ the crochet hook. I was crocheting the ends of my loc and the crochet needle accidently went into my nail bed of my thumb. I thought I was going to pass out. My son had to literally yank it out of my thumb.

OMG!! That's scary!! Yea...I ended up just wearing surgical gloves which worked really well. But a friend suggested a sewing thimble would work great too.

You are angling down with the crochet needle I believe you're supposed to twist and turn your hair with the needle going in and out from side to side as you twist and turn I am not a loctician I just watch a ton of videos with hair locks

If you want the added hair to be more consistent with your current size, just keep working with the crochet needle. It will compact the extensions

Girrl get yourself a thimble to protect your thumb - the same kind you use when you sew by hand. They're made of metal or silicone.

@TheSimpleFarmacist
@TheSimpleFarmacist 3 года назад
@@jollofforbreakfast um, at some point you have to decide how much or how little you care about people’s opinions. When I went loose natural every African around me told me to perm my hair. When I locd my hair, most people just thought I was new age or something. Now, at least 4 other Africans in my close circle have told me they started their Locs after seeing mine. It’s your hair. If you think it’ll be a good fit for your lifestyle, go for it.

@@TheSimpleFarmacist And @Tari Clement Yes such a good conversation topic I’m Nigerian women as well and you have to do what you want and others peoples opinion shouldn’t matter when it comes down to what you really want . I hoped you started your loc journey
