I have been fortunate to play division one and now coach/give lessons. I ask kids all the time what their goals are and most say go D1 and get drafted. Then I lay it out what it will take to get there and most kids just aren’t willing to put in the work. What Bauer did is extreme but it drives home the point that hitting once or twice a week on your own isn’t going to cut it anymore. I lived in the cages constantly working on getting better. Myself and my best friend were the only ones putting in the work and no surprise at all were the only ones to go D1.
@speakinfaxonly21

I agree. I didn't put in the work in High school I was a min effort guy but still excelled and that was good enough for me at the time. Big regret. Threw 86 as junior lefty pitcher. Didn't play my senior year because issues with coach. I regret it. Kids reading this, give your maximum effort when you're young. You don't get those years back and they are the most crucial years to go grow.

@chrismarston4266
@chrismarston4266 3 месяца назад
@@mattp4007 I did want it. I went to private coaching lessons for 5 years with ex pro ball guys and committed to baseball. My freshman year of high school I was never given any playing time and the head coach said high school level ball is no longer for development. I was told I would be a starter on the JV team at third base, but so were three other kids. I played 5 innings all year, I never took bp before games because starters had priority and the coach wouldn’t be with the team for it so I or anyone else who was on the bench was throwing bp. I recall one game I was put in to pinch hit with two outs in the 7th, obviously I struck out because I hadn’t seen live pitching for weeks. I got chewed out by the coach for not putting a good ab together even though I was the one who threw bp before the game. For summer ball I was benched for kids who were definitely not as good as I was (different coach too) or even kids who didn’t go to my high school. For middle school ball there were 3 levels, I played two years at the second highest (should’ve played my second year at the highest but the coaches wanted to keep the team together even though they were younger and first time playing that level) while some teammates I was benched for (namely the coaches kid) played both years at the lowest level. I rarely got playing time on a team I knew I was a top 3 player on and the coach made me look bad in any way he could. I recall begging for a month straight to give me a chance to pitch, to let me throw bullpens during practice or live at bats, because that was a stronger position for me back when I was in a team I actually got playing time for. So one day, 15 minutes before the game starts I was told I was pitching. No bullpen, barely any warm up, and I hadn’t pitched in a live game for a year. I didn’t do terrible, but I didn’t do well. Gave up only a couple hits through 4 innings but walked a ton of batters. I got another chance two games later, again, not being told I was pitching until just before the game and again not doing all that good. I started throwing bullpens in my spare time because I still had yet to throw during practice, but that second game was the last time I pitched. I also was not the only player in my class to quit during high school. My incoming class had 13 baseball players, 5 still played by their senior year, 2 of the 5 played for other schools. One of the assistant coaches was also on the verge of abusive, on one occasion he grabbed on of my friends by the collar and screamed in his face for a simple mistake during practice. By my junior year the coaches changed but weren’t much better. They were the owners/coaches of a tournament team and heavily favored players who also played for that team. It turned into a “pay to play” team and if you played for a different team you got even less playing time or respect from the coaches. Some kids who didn’t quit from the first staff quit with this one because they didn’t have the money or didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars to play for the tournament team. I and many of my teammates lost the love for playing after that which made it difficult to go back or play for other teams. It didn’t matter how good some of us were because we no longer enjoyed playing.

I remember seeing Trev's vids in high school (he's not much older than me). I could throw a ball 300 feet but on the mound I could barely get above 75. I never really figured out my pitching mechanics but I don't have arm problems and I could throw over 100 pitches without an issue. I attribute my stamina to these drills and I think even half of the volume would be so beneficial for young players.

Long toss doesn’t increase throwing velocity. There is a different psychological factor when long tossing compared to pitching and that is: the environment in which the regulation ball is thrown on, angel of release, velocity of release, and height of release. These factors affect the number of motor units and axons in each movement and doesn’t translate to the game related task. In conclusion, the greater number of departures from the competitive skill, the less valuable is the training. Overweight and underweight baseball training applies to this principle as well. If you guys want a better understanding of pitching, I recommend you read “The Science and Art of Baseball Pitching” by Brent Rushall.
