I don't know how you keep finding subjects that I happen to be particularly interested in. I first found your channel a few years ago when I was trying to fix things on my ED Falcon, (which is still going by the way), (I have two of them now actually). More recently house stumping, instant gas hot water systems and now stormwater drains among other subjects are all the things I appreciate your opinions, explanations and tips and tricks on. Thanks for your efforts in presenting these these cool videos and keeping us all informed.
Smashing tutorial dave, someone will find your video dead handy :-D And there i was thinking it worked similar to airfix model glue by melting the surfaces together. I'm wrong of cause :-D I think some plumbers in the u.k use it, but others still use the nut/threaded pvc pipe. I like the old nut/thread better for servicing, my kitchen sink tubes get rather nasty, most fluids don't clean it so full manual job. Imagine how pissed off i would get with chopping up glued pvc pipes, i would have to drink 2 cups of tea to get over it ha ha :-D.
Holding it "not for very long" means 30 seconds as recommended by the manufacturer. But, in the U.S., the 3" conduit seems very tight and hard to get two 10' pieces to come together. is there a pulling method that anyone is aware of to pull the two pieces together?
This is just 90MM UPVC storm water pipe and goes together really easily; I find that even the Australian DWV pipe is really easy to slide together as the glue lubricates it. 30 seconds for holding the glued joint sounds about right, I can say that if you use the priming fluid and hold it for that 30 seconds then the joint is pretty much bonded for life
Too much glue _can_ be a problem, it can continue to melt the pipe. But I've never seen that happen, Too little is far more detrimental. In short: I agree.
Relax mate, I use this glue so infrequently that it will never be a problem; I know guys that have worked with this MEK based glue for 20 years and they are fine. although I can't remember I am pretty sure I did use a brush as I do every time I use this glue
