What are RU-vid Shorts?
RU-vid Shorts are a new feature that is currently in beta within the RU-vid mobile app. A lot of us are experimenting with RU-vid shorts, and a lot of people are curious about how to do RU-vid gaming shorts. Yeah, short REALLYYY helped me growing my channel! Just dont over do it, post 1 short for ever 3/4 normal videos, so you dont just build a short audience, but also normal audience that like watching your normal videos! :)

As an experiment, one month ago - I created this channel just for RU-vid shorts - I did no social media promoting and I uploaded several shorts to get things going - just to see what would happen. The first 30 days...not much...and then all of a sudden, a video was placed on a shelf and 300 views happened...then another at 900 views...and then it happened - VIRAL VIDEO AND 1.3 million views?!?! Now this channel is larger than my main channel after just over a month....biggest question is; now what??? Lol

0:44 there is a mistake. He says RU-vid shorts need to be "at least 60 seconds long". That's incorrect, they can be up to 60 seconds long.

For a few weeks now I've been uploading many short videos that fit the shorts description (vertical / under 1 minute / put hashtag shorts). I added the shorts tab to my channel homepage, but so far none of those videos have identified as shorts. Do you know what might of happened?

When you say "chop off the sides" in your video editor, what does that actually translate to for how to do it ourselves? Trying to do it in my editor would still leave a widescreen video just with black bars on the sides. But trying to set the rendering parameters to portrait it just squashes my videos down (you can see what I mean on my channel). I'll have to mess around with it cause there really aren't a lot of good tutorials or info I can find on any of this. Thank you for the video you do amazing work!

Have you noticed any way in which posting shorts has damaged the views of your "normal" videos? My biggest concern is that it may slow my channel's growth either due to a lower CTR or lower average view time. Also, how is revenue so bad? 7 bucks out of 750k views. Thanks!

Is there some way to see if your video is considered a " short " on youtube? Or do I just have to crop it like TikTok and just be under 60 seconds?

I’m not a gaming channel, but a fly fishing channel - I’ve done a few shorts that have helped with the discovery of my channel and like yours; I’ve gained quite a few subscribers because of it. I have a separate playlist for shorts and have modified my mobile app to have a shelf on my channel page. So far so good - and they are certainly fun to create!

The thumbnail on the shorts shelf is always one of the thumbnails automatically generated by RU-vid, even when you upload a custom one.

Yes, I did a few shorts but... It explodes late night around 2AM to 4AM and then just stops getting views? It would appear that it indexes content and releases it around every 5 days. At least for my channel.

Not true, I've had a recently released video that is exactly 60secs long and was / is still be considered / pushed by YT as a short, of course though, make it 59secs if you're nervous.

Same, it does make you wonder why sometimes can't seemingly give the same sort of video views opportunity to videos in general despite being an experiment at the moment as aside from having to get to the point quicker, its still effectively the same person, style and content a lot of the times. Maybe there's a lesson there in that very statement. 🤔

Started trying RU-vid shorts last night. I do Instagram reels so I’ve started testing those on it. I’m a fitness page and some of them are how-tos. People ask for like “how to do a pull-up” a lot but it’s not full video worthy. So this should solve an issue hopefully

I created my first short today. It is about, not making tacky close-ups when creating RU-vid videos. I called it "Don't Do This On Your RU-vid Video" I created a Thumbnail for it too. I did a little SEO and placed a heap of tags into it. I also added the hashtag Shorts in it. I checked my channel and it is in my shorts section on my RU-vid Studio. I guess all I can do now is wait.

@Product Creation Formula Also keep making content (as I'm sure you will) while you wait, don't just 'wait' because it is or can be very random (I just saw a video in here that's a short that doesn't even have tags or the short hashtag and has over 180,000+) with YT classing this as an experiment an all and we don't even know if / when they may change things or turn off the tap so to speak. 👍

What if you did some of your reviews as shorts? Or you could do match predictions as shorts. You could do quick weekly or monthly team rankings as shorts. You could do end of the season awards as shorts. You could do breaking news as shorts. You could do the best play of the week as shorts.

I'm using shorts to make highlights from my long form videos in the hopes that people will stick around to watch the full video and possibly some other videos too. So far, they've done pretty good, with one recent Among Us short blowing up to become the second most viewed video on my channel and bringing my subscriber count halfway to 1,000.

Hey I dont know why but for my main chanel (this one) short dasnt work at all I tryed the same on my second chanel and it worked perfectly then tryed on my main agein and it didnt worked at all does it mean that my main is shadow banned I just wanted to share this as its wird and I havent encountered anyone with the same problem as me so hope if anyone is reading that they can help me ! We have done 8 shorts, I created a shorts feature to show at the top of my channel on the app, but only 3 of the 8 show on the shorts feature. So too me it may not be getting on the shorts shelf.

So just record as normal then in the editor change it to 1080x1920, instead of 1920x1080 for export? not that I am interested yet however for gamers, they could make unofficial game trailer shorts, made from their own recordings of the best gameplay bits without spoiling too much and audio library music, if that is legal then its a decent idea to consider.

We made a short video a few weeks ago and it gained 100k views over 2 days. It was weird because it gained us 500subs in less than 24 hours (pushing us over 1k) but then RU-vid deleted 400 of them the day after. I like using Shorts to make stream highlights as shorts seem to get more views than our regular content (and by extension more subs) and if anyone wants to see the whole stream I link the relevant section in the description.

I am a gaming channel and I made 3. However, RU-vid is not treating them as a short. Under the features on my homepage, the youtube shorts section keeps saying that "This is empty. Videos will start to appear once you made shorts." Well, I have 3 in 9:16 ratio and around 30 - 40 seconds. I had to add a strip with text on the top and bottom parts of one of the video because the screen having nothing but black around the image in the center. I was getting dishearted because someone commented to me that shorts are only for real-life recording and not screen capture. They said that gaming just doesn't work. I also heard that it should take 7 days at the most for RU-vid to recognize my videos as a short. (Even though, RU-vid treats my shorts different on the YT Studio app.) My first short was made 17 days ago. I am glad that it seems it can work for gaming channels. I wish I knew more so I knew what I could do better. I'll update with news, but at the moment, it doesn't look good for me.

Hey Sim, your video if you right click in it and hit stats for nerds says its a horizontal not VERTICAL video according to YT, are you actually exporting the videos as 1080x1920 for example, black bars on the sides added alone don't count and you want to make sure the export settings are not resetting potential to horizontal 1080p before export.

I am using hitfilm express and when I start a project, I go into custom and reverse the numbers on vertical and horizontal so vertical is 1920 and horizontal is 1080. So then I gotta figure out how it is reverting back to horizontal. Thank you, you gave me some answers and now I have a lead on how to fix this. I appreciate it!!

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with that program but to check if your video is actually exported correctly you could also see how the video previews on your desktop in Thumbnail View on Windows (assuming you're on that) which will also look vertical too. Or again on Windows, right-click your video file, go to properties, then hit the details tab and that will tell you your video width and height respectively. Let us know when you manage to crack it too! 😀

Another thought just occurred to me, it's possible you have your sequence (editing file) settings to vertical but your export settings to landscape, I did that once before as they aren't treated as the same thing in other programs too possibly, check that too, okay, enough from me now 😂

For a car related channel, are shorts not easy, depending if you do one mobile shot or editing on a desktop. I did two, but have mixed feelings.

I just stopped my gaming channel feeling no growth. Then after one of Dan sir's video I started a new shorts sequence and I got 2.3k views on my channel with 23 subscribers. So I just want to say, Don't give up! Edit: This is not my gaming channel. You can search for "pokegamer kb" if you want to see how shorts worked on a small gaming channel. This does work. I got 14k views from one of my shorts and I’m a new channel with about 150+ subs. So clearly that’s my best performing video. I’m doing 2-3 RU-vid shorts a week and tracking the progress! I’d recommend this to anyone tbh

My first short was on the shelf in a day, the second one is not, after a week. The second was set as a premiere, don’t know if that has anything to do with it? I guess patience is needed for now. Will try another one, and no more premieres on shorts...

My channel started off barely getting any views for the first few months and then I changed the way I interacted with my audience and then I suddenly started getting thousands of views! For everyone thinking of starting a channel or is struggling to grow, keep working hard and make sure to stay consistent, you WILL get there, it's just a matter of how much effort you put into your videos. What I’ve seen is Most RU-vid shorts get in the shorts shelf at around 1 to two days and pickup a few views. But like you said it can definitely get picked up MUCH later and go big. I’ve just experienced it getting on the shelf pretty earily however my shorts aren’t old enough to let you know if I’ve been picked up later or not. Sorry for the long comment. Patience is KEY

I’ve tried a few shorts on my channel along with my regular videos. One has hit 100k views and the others at 20k, and 15K views. They have caused my channel to grow from 20 subscribers to 200 subscribers. They have definitely caused growth for my channel.

I did a short video, for a test, and it took off after about 16 hours . The views went crazy for about four hours and then went back to normal. Also, picked up 10 subscribers during this time. Hopefully, it will do good again. Thanks
