Yes you can get funding through graduate assistantship. I have a friend who did a master in Social work that got funding.

It should not be a problem. All you have to do is to inform the VO that your uncle has been responsible for your welfare since your father passed away. You will have to also explain why your uncle will take up such responsibility.

You will get your i20 whether you have funding or not. I20 is like an admission letter that you will automatically get as an international student so that you can apply for F1 visa. Also, I20 is not a necessarily a proof of fund. It stipulates how much your tuition is and whether or not you have any form of scholarship or funding.

Thank you so much for the clarification. However, did you only submit the 50% funding for the Visa processing as proof of funds, or did you later add some funds to the 50% before you were granted the Visa? Kindly please explain how you go about it. thank you.

@@BigTim__ Alongside the 50% GA, I showed that my family has the financial capacity to pay the balance through financial statement that I took along for my interview.

On your first question, I had a statement from my family that showed I can cover the balance of my tuition. Secondly I got married in the US so when I came to the US I was not married. Thirdly, I attended Eastern Michigan University. I highly recommend this school.
