oh my god stop. i literally saw u on my fyp & i wanted to watch ur vids on berkeley. i literally want to go to berkeley for their business school & the SAME major as u. thank u so so so much, this vid definitely helped!!!
Hi Lillian! I just finished my freshman year at UC Berkeley and I'm an intended psychology major. My interest in business has been growing substantially these past few months, so I've been really interested in getting more involved in things related to business. However, I'm nervous because I know that most people apply to HAAS during the fall semester of their sophomore year, but I'm barely going to start taking the business pre reqs this upcoming fall :/ I just wanted to ask if you, in your experience, think it's too late for me to get involved? Is it even possible for me to apply to HAAS after my sophomore year? Thanks, I love watching your videos!
Hi, Lilian I just joined Cal this year as a freshman and Im just super confused on the application process. So basically I'm only taking one pre req course which is a compressed writing col writ course to fulfill English A but would I have to stack all my pre reqs to finish it in time before sophomore spring. Ig what Im asking is do I need to finish all of my pre reqs before sophomore spring or is it still ok to take pre reqs for haas during sophmore spring. Thanks for the helpful video
Hi Lillian, thanks so much for the info! Super helpful :) I am a freshman at cal now but have not been super involved in extracurricular (since it's difficult doing clubs remote). if i join new clubs in soph year, is there still a chance that i be in leadership position by the time of haas application? how did u manage to become the VP in the microfinance club in soph year?
Hey Chelsea! Yes, I didn't join the microfinance club until my sophomore fall. We had VP elections before haas apps closed so I was able to get the position by the time apps were due :)
hey lillian, i am currently a high school student but i am interested in berkeley business school of haas. would i directly apply to haas senior hs year? or would i have to get accepted into uc berkeley (or any other college (?), and then apply for haas in my later college years? thank you!
you can apply directly to the haas global management program as a hs senior, but it includes more requirements and is more selective. most people apply as a sophomore as a uc berkeley student (doesn't matter which college within the university). there's a lot more information on the haas website. hope this helps!
Thank you for sharing your insight Lillian! Question for you: if I get admitted to Berkeley as a freshman, I really am admitted to the letters of science, and not the business program, correct? Meaning I could actually never be guaranteed a business major at Berkely if I don't get accepted my Junior year as a continuing student, right? Thanks for your help.
Glad it helped! If you apply as undeclared into letters and sciences, yes you will need to apply to the business major/haas in your sophomore year. The acceptance rate amongst Berkeley students is around 30%, but I don't think the business major is essential to your career goals as what you do outside of the classroom setting is just as important as school itself. There's also the option to apply directly to Haas as a freshman (the global management program)
if you apply to Haas and do not get it, but still want to go into business in the future, what would you do? Would you just have a somewhat correlating major?
The most common major to business is economics since the prereq classes are nearly identical. However, your success doesn't depend on the major you do, it depends on what you do with the opportunities in front of you
Hi Lillian, I am a international transfer student for fall 2022. I got admitted as a sophomore to the College of L&S. Can I still apply to Haas? I saw the website says continuing students can only apply once. Does that mean my only chance is this November? Thanks a lot!!
Do I only need to complete those 5 required classes to qualify to transfer to Berkeley or is there breadth requirements? Also what extracurriculars look good? Thank you.
Hi Lillian! I want to get into Haas program at UC Berkeley which is not possible before Sophomore year as I do not wish to apply to the GMP or MET program. Any suggestions as to which major I should choose as a freshman and in which college at UC Berkeley?
A majority of students who want to apply to Haas usually apply to Berkeley as undeclared in Letters and Science (everyone in that college starts off as undeclared until you finish major requirements)
Thank you for sharing your insight! I have a question for you: I’ve got 32/45 in IB. Will I have a chance in haas if I have 1450 SAT, strong extracurricular activities and good essay?
Hi Lillian, Do you know if Haas checks your UC application in the review process of your application to Haas? It'd be great to know when you have a moment.
when you said you had a business, was it a legal business entity, like you had to pay for a business license and get an EIN number? or can any commercial activity be considered a business?
Thanks and I hoped it helped! I think my experience and advice for continuing students also applies for transfer students! Also pay attention to the regular UC application essays and make sure to get people to help you proofread :)
Yeah I joined both during fall of my freshman year! For ASUC I joined Cal's class of 2022 page and some of the people managing the ASUC released an application so I heard about it through that
Since I'm taking stat20 for the stats requirement, do you recommend I take that this fall (sophomore year fall) or rather during sophomore year spring? I'm worried that the gpa from that will negatively affect me
I think if you're taking all the other prereqs before sophomore spring, then taking stats in the spring should be ok. But for me I just took all the prereqs by sophomore fall
