I’m currently in 8th grade and I’ve wanted to pursue a career as a PMHNP in nursing since 5th grade. UCLA is definitely one of my dreams school and I want to do everything I can to ensure the best chance of getting in! I was wondering if you had any tips that you could share that would be beneficial for me. :)

It's awesome to hear that you have such a clear goal at such a young age! I think one of the best ways to strengthen your application to UCLA is to focus on learning and volunteering in healthcare settings. Spending time around nurses and other healthcare professionals will give you a deeper understanding of what it means to be a nurse and the impact you can make in the field. Look for opportunities to volunteer at hospitals, clinics, or community health organizations. This hands-on experience will not only enhance your knowledge but also demonstrate your commitment to nursing. Additionally, I think it’s important to show UCLA how passionate you are about nursing. Share your experiences, what you’ve learned, and how you plan to make a difference in healthcare. Highlighting your dedication and understanding of the nursing profession will make your application stand out. By the way, I checked out your “What’s in My School Bag” video and noticed your Cinnamoroll stickers - I’m a huge fan of them too! 🥰 Wishing you all the best on your journey to becoming a PMHNP and getting into UCLA!

@@honeybunnixoxo Thank you so much for the reply, I appreciate it! I’ve tried to apply for many volunteer positions in a clinical setting, however most of them declined me because of my age as the majority of hospitals only accept volunteers 15-16+. If it’s not too much trouble, are there any alternatives you’d be able to recommend for a middle school student? And omg, thank you so much for watching one of my videos haha! That helps a lot, love cinnamon rolllll. :D Again, thank you so much for your reply. I’ll definitely take everything you said into account!

I feel like most of the time universities really only care about high school grades/extracurriculars, but of course it doesn't hurt to start earlier. I personally didn't do any in middle school, but maybe you can search online for some middle school summer healthcare programs, join some pre-nursing/healthcare clubs in your community, or attend some local community health events/fairs/workshops hosted by local hospitals and health organizations. Best of luck with your healthcare journey! 💖

Congratulations on your academics and extracurriculars! You did a great job on posting videos! Your video is very content! Will be earning my AA degree at a 2-year college next month. I am 25 years old. I graduated from high school in the spring of 2016. It was 7 years ago. I am working on my book which is called my life with autism and being a military child. I am working on my second book for right now. I will get my first book published after it gets reviewed next month. My two books might have the same content and title, but different chapters. I was diagnosed with autism at age 3. I was born in upstate of New York. I lived there in my early childhood until age 5. I had to travel all over the states because my dad’s job in the military service. He is technically my stepdad, but I always call him dad because he is the man who raised me as a child. I was born from Puerto Rican family, and I was raised from Colombian family. I am full Puerto Rican, and half Colombian. If you want to know which states I lived in before, you will know about it in my first book. Again, you did a great job on your video because it was very impressive! You have great content. I enjoyed watching your video. Great job with working as a nurse as well! You are very a hard worker! After I complete with my AA degree in Liberal Arts, I will train for acting. Then, I will work on my BA degree in Journalism. My dream career is to be an actor and a journalist at the same time. Also, I will be doing internship for journalism outside of college. I did a volunteer job as an office assistant at the main office in my junior year of high school. I did a shadow job as an administrative assistant 3 years ago after COVID got hit. I was in the Dean’s List three times in a row at a 2-year college. I have been studying at a 2-year college for 7 years. I had switched my major couple times. During my first time attended to a 2-year college, I have switched from computer specialists to business management. In my second time attend to a 2-year college, I have switched from business management to liberal arts. I took theatre and journalism courses, which is not too long ago. I have been working on my AA degree for 6 years. I will let you know when my book gets published. I will announce it on RU-vid as well. Also, I have a RU-vid channel. My name is Andres by the way! It is pleasure to meet you. Wish you are the best of luck at working as a nurse. Again, congratulations on your academics and extracurriculars! You did a great job. Your parents are very proud of you. Good luck with being a nurse. God bless you and your family! 🙏❤️

Hi there! Since I was a freshman admit, I didn't have to take any classes before I started school. However if you're planning to transfer in, you might have to. Here is the link to learn more about the transfer requirements: nursing.ucla.edu/programs-admissions/academic-programs/bachelor-of-science/bachelor-of-science-admissions

Can you talk about how you were able to work on a research project with ucla school of nursing while’s in high school

Hi Adriana! During high school, I was curious about research projects in the field of nursing. I took the initiative to explore the work of UCLA School of Nursing professors by reading their research papers and projects. When I found topics that intrigued me, I reached out to those professors via email. I expressed my interest in their research and kindly asked if I could shadow them to learn more. It was a great opportunity to gain insights and expand my knowledge in the field!
