What I like in your videos is not the motion graphics so much but the raw feel of you walking with a camera in your hand and going to a new place. Even if you do away with the motion graphics but just have a high quality well edited video of you running around with a camera, I'd watch it. You give me the feel of a gonzo journalist, like what's that guy who wrote Palestine.

I feel that it is easier to do things when you have a different side quest to do. I found that when I had to make a documentary for school I could document myself better if I was just saying my thoughts while walking but if I were to stand still in a chair I would stutter and feel weird. He might be similar finding that walking somewhere is better.

In this video you show us your skillset on how to express our passion into reality. In your video about college, I have realized college is not just a stepping stone into my career, but an actual place for self-developement and expanding my expectations of myself. I have shown your videos to my friends and they were equally amazed by your work. Plus, until now I though that the animations in your videos were made by someone else in Vox, but knowing that even that is a skill you put into your videos yourself is just mindblowing for me to realize. I have a Degree in Robotics Engineering. Currently working with a Robotics Engineering Consultant Firm. Yes, it pays the bills, but it's not where my passion is at. I have always enjoyed drawing, expressing the my experience through visual arts. So, I recently started doing RU-vid, my drawing and animation skills are no where near professional level, but I'll keep practicing and maybe return to school one day and get a degree in art / animation. I hope one day I'll find my dream job just like you. :)
@harounben342
@harounben342 5 лет назад
I am in a similar situation, I'm in Mechanical Engineering, I don't hate it but I am passionate about a lot of things, including art, like what you stated as an example. It's hard to make a choice to specialize in something, but for the moment I took some steps away for what I am certified in, to know more and get qualified for a job, then maybe learn more to be an expert while doing things I love, before I step away and maybe completely to more passionate thing and also more impact toward society and leave some legacy. My advice is that you can keep up with Robotics in a way that you include passion with it and think and do your job in an artistic way, you may find it hard to apply that at your actual job but maybe one day with some connection you get to the right place for you.

Working for Vox would be a dream come true to me but it's not by all means something that if I had I would be content with. I think the most important for me is just finding a footing in the journalism industry. Catch a gig or two, and build my already existing portfolio to match up my skills. This was a really interesting video. I don't think any other Vox anchor went into in that much detail about their hiring process, and it gives that much more respect for what you do. I'm sure I'm not alone, but for me Vox Borders became synonymous with Johnny Harris. Much like BBC's flagship documentaries came to be associated with David Attenborough. He's just that prolific of a storyteller. I'm not mincing my words when I say this: Johnny is literally my idol and I aspire to be as good as him, if not better. Thanks for sharing your journey.

This is really inspiring. I actually came across your Vox video first, then somehow stumbled upon Izzy's vlogs, and then this video. Glad your hard work is finally producing fruits!

Made my day, thanks for the "Lesson" series Mr.Borders. All the time I was trying to co-relate the things, and I must say nothing comes without a price, from dish washing in a restaurant to letting the world know the BORDERS like no book can teach. It was great to know your journey, I must say you are one of the best storytellers on the platform.

I think this is a really great video for anyone in a creative industry. I'm currently working towards being a designer and don't feel like I can see what that next step is, but still respect and understand that the only option is to move forward in one direction. The fact that you can still pivot and grow is super encouraging and I'm always inspired by your videos. Show, don't tell is so hard but you're totally right and I'm learning that there isn't really a good substitute.

Inspiring story, Johnny. Thanks a lot for sharing that! At the moment I have the opportunity to work in a small company that I am completely free to start a project in digital marketing - the career I just discovered I want to be good at. The problem is that I can't learn with anyone there since I am the one trying to a start the whole thing, then sometimes I feel completely lost. Considering that, do you have an advice for me? I really want to make it work...

One important thing to add: he lucked out, big time. Work hard, yes of course you have to. But remember there are *MILLIONS* out there with the same skill set as you, looking for the same job as you. You have to be in the right place at the right time. The best way to do that? Be everywhere, all the time (metaphorically speaking).

True that . Two weeks ago I was talking with my friend about how I want ti do something on youtube related to educating content and he told me that he just got an internship at a company like this . So I asked him how did he get this he told me it was just a luck he was scrolling through social media and he saw the hiring and he got it . Now I guess if I have to get in that organisation I should not wait for them to start hiring I should make my own content and send them :))

The conclusion that you allow viewers to take away is relevant for so many people. Hard work and humility. I love how your videos, aren’t all about the flashiest graphics but always carry wonderful insights which leaves a huge impression.

Hey Johnny, thanks for sharing your experience. I found that many people even my myself don't see the hard work and time required to become successful and get recognition for the work. I read a post a few days ago in which it was written: " today's young generation has high hopes and dreams but no realistic way to achieve them." I was in the same boat, and there were some moments where I was losing hope because I was getting nowhere close to achieving my dreams; but, thanks to you and other creators on the internet for sharing your experience guiding to our dreams.

Did you not upload a video on making borders? Anyways... I just watched your Colombia Venezuela video and really liked it. Shared. I have a funny question: I am Colombian and I don't think I would feel safe carrying the camera and so on and sort of vlogging with it in the streets. Did you feel at all unsafe while doing this? I realize that it's your job so it's a bit different...
@elreydelvideo

*Reporters like him, don't just walk around the streets alone, they hire local people to show the ways around usually people that know the good and the bad of every place, and preferably that has some physical training or know how to defend, saying that you need to know too that this kind of job has its dangers so be careful*

@@johnnyharris2912 I am very glad you felt safe in Bogota... I feel safe most of the time but partly because I am not taking my phone out in the streets and so on... I think I have to start being a bit more chill about it. :) I see on my Facebook that many Colombians are loving and sharing your video. So congrats. And looking forward to watching the rest of the series.
