I realize that confuses most foreigners, however I have been to Canada, Mexico and explored this country from coast to coast. Now I’m not healthy enough to travel overseas, so I waited too long to travel. I see the world through reading and videos. I absolutely enjoy your videos!

I recently renewed my American passport in the Philippines where I live. It took about three weeks which was not expedited. There are a lot of Americans here and the process is pretty streamlined. All done through the mail

As someone who has also buried his Dad, (hard to believe how many years it's been...) you have my sympathy, Laurence. I am glad you at least got to be physically present for everything. Make sure to take time for yourself when you can to properly process everything.

My deepest sympathies Lawrence. I lost my dad 1 year and 2 days ago. I live in another state, and it was difficult enough getting air tickets in time to get out to see him one last time, so grateful I didn’t have to fight through passport bureaucracy as well. Very proud to count you as a fellow American.

Sincere condolences in the loss of your father. My 1st job out of college was at the passport office. I was one of the worker bees in the back room. One thing that caught my attention was the number of naturalized citizens applying. We were in a large government building and it seemed like the ink was barely dry on their citizenship papers and they were at our office. Fast forward quite a few years and I understood when a daughter in law became a citizen.

So sorry about your dad Laurence. Its really tough when you find yourself “across the pond” when something tragic like this happens. I was in Germany when my dad died and the trip across that pond seemed to take forever! Being active duty military I only had to show my ID card to get my ticket and everything was handled through the Red Cross. But again, my condolences for your loss. God bless.

Im so sorry for your loss. I did this yesterday for a urgent passport, it is simpler then a life or death passport but it's less likely to get. If you can get a appointment for either circumstance you're solid

I'm so sorry for your loss. Being across the sea must have made it worse, as well as much more complicated.

I work out of the country. Did the urgent travel. Flew into Dallas at 9am from outside the country and gave the application at 10am. I had the passport in my hand at 4:30pm. Got on the 8pm flight back out and slept in my bed that night. I still can't believe it.

OMG how I laughed at the music and face pull after the Machiavellian reveal. I also used my grief as a tool when the airline cancelled the flight I was taking from Chicago in the winter due to snow (...wut?) to attend my father's funeral. I let every single person KNOW so they would be compelled to do more than they were doing for others. And it worked. Rerouted around the country to my destination instead of being told to try again tomorrow dispelled any guilt I may have felt at weaponizing a family loss.

This video was timely for me, because it reminded me I need to get my passport renewed if I wish to spend the summer in Manchester, as well as Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Passports, I've discovered, are extremely handy little documents. You can use then for identification in country as well as traveling to other countries.

Congratulations on getting your U.S. passport! I had to renew mine five years ago. But I was born abroad, on U.S. territory but not U.S. soil. That ought to have automatically made me a U.S. citizen. It did to everyone but the U.S. government. Since 9/11, I’ve had to prove my U.S. citizenship. $250 and two months later, I had my Certified Record of Birth Abroad. Then I had to apply for the renewal. At least, I have both documents now. They came in handy when eight months later, I got a job in Japan and moved there.

Laurence, i just found your channel. What a refreshing take on American life. Im sorry to hear of your father's passing, but im glad you were able to mourn his death beside your family members. As a dual citizen myself it was not so much getting the passports but renewing them. For me, USA was much easier than getting my Australian (country of origin) passport renewed. Which entailed a visit to the consulate, a 2hr drive away and very specific size and requirements for passport photos. Not to mention the fees and forms. But it's worth it, as ill be going back for a trip later this year. Thank you for the fun and entertaining videos.

Easy. Carry two passports. Travel with the passport for the country in which you live. Use the other to enter the country for which it's issued. I do this regularly.

I’m a 62-year old American and I never got around to getting my passport. I went to Europe as a child on my parents’ passports, and we didn’t need them for the US and Canada for many years, but I should at least put it on my To-Do list!

I am very glad you were able to procure an American passport so you could go be with your family. I am sorry you lost your dad. Mine had been gone going on 5 years. Do something to celebrate him on his birthday. No matter where we are, my family eats dad's favorite dessert: apple pie, and shares pics with each other. Some of us eat apples and cinnamon and skip the crust and butter to fit our diets, but the main thing is to do something to remember him, to celebrate him. Something meaningful to all you all. 💞

My friend got his passport in a day in NY city. He didn’t have a death. He just lived in NY. I don’t know if that has changed but he and I went to Europe together and it took me 8 weeks to get one and I stood in line with him and he got his in 1 day.

Great video Lawrence. I'm sorry for your loss. I recently lost my father at aged 96. I live in Bangkok, Thailand and knew this days was coming. I wasn't planning to return to the UK, and as it happened, there wasn't a normal funeral. My sisters and niece attended what was a "Drive Past". The funeral car passed the house, at a respectful speed, so those gathered could say . . . "Was that it?" I'm pleased I didn't travel 7,000 miles for a 30 second event. I've renewed my passport twice since being abroad. Once via the UK embassy in Hong Kong by post. more recently via a passport service in Bangkok, where the paperwork was sent to the UK by DHL. I had to leave Thailand to renew my visa which added a time pressure, but it was sorted and returned in time!

Condolences. Glad you were able to join your family for the funeral. Something I learned from another RU-vidr...Even though you have dual citizenship and 2 passports, dont routinely pick and choose which passport you use for different trips. Can cause problems and delays.
